BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Our trip is January 16 to 23, so I'm pretty sure we'll be in the thick of it.

From what I have heard, they are actually closing off a lot of the villas closest to the construction, so hopefully you will be ok. They are really trying their best to make it great for everyone!

Thank you so much! That's what I really needed to hear.

I love Disney and I was really hoping to use this vacation to convince my husband to agree to buying into DVC, so that's why I really wanted the best experience possible. I can live with construction, I'm more worried about him and the kids.
The lodge looks really beautiful, so I'm hoping everything will work out. I love the proximity to the Magic Kingdom, so it's hard to imagine going to Saratoga Springs or Animal Kingdom anyway.

You're very welcome! I completely understand, I always want our vacations to be perfect for everyone else, I'm ok with things not being perfect but if I think someone else is disappointed it makes me feel so bad! You will love WL I'm sure. good luck with your DVC persuit! I'm envious of your possibility! :)

Has anyone that is traveling the last week of September and first week of October been offered the $100 discount or resort change?

Has anyone that is traveling the last week of September and first week of October been offered the $100 discount or resort change?

We're at VWL October 18-24 and when I called after receiving the letter, no offers were made because the construction isn't starting until October 26th at the earliest. I was told my letter was sent by mistake.

I am a bit confused by the construction. We have never stayed at WL before. We are planning on staying in a Deluxe Club Level Room at the end of May 2016. It is my understanding that the pool that is closed is not the main pool but the playground will be closed. Is that correct? We will be traveling with two 3 year olds. Would you keep our stay or move? I was really looking forward to WL and the Club level at the WL. If we move, we would probably move to a Club Level Boardwalk Deluxe room. Anyone have any thoughts?

The only thing I would look into, we are as well, is how close the deluxe rooms will be to the cabin construction. All the deluxe rooms face the lake, so I am imagining that they will face the construction and may make for difficult nap times. I'm hoping I'm wrong though!

Hi,

I am thinking of coming back to WDW in early Dec 2015 ( last time I was in WDW was 2011 but stayed at WL and loved it) I would love to stay again but slightly worried sabout the construction. I was planning on Club Level ( other hotels with club rooms available for Sat 28th nov to Thrs 3rd Dec are AKL ( same price) , GF ( $100 more per night) and the Poly is $300 more per night). The christmas decorations look amazing at the WL and given I will be at the parks ( mostly WDW and Epcot ) most of the day I will probably choose the WL.

Regards

TBS

As far as the CL rooms and lounge location, the lounge is away from the primary construction area. The lounge views, (photos are in the CL VIEWS chapter of the WL thread), are of the WL courtyard. Until they start building the new restaurant on the beach, you shouldn't really see construction from the lounge. The South Wing rooms are closest to the VWL-area rehab so I would request a North Wing room to be furthest away.

During your timeframe, I would request a North Wing Deluxe room. Those in the South Wing that are mid-Lodge should be fine. However, the South Wing Deluxe rooms that front the beach may have views of the restaurant construction. They may block these rooms from booking, but if they don't, I would want to be in the North Wing.

DVC EXPANSION TO WL SOUTH WING CONFIRMED!
@Cultural Rep 1996 posted today to the WL/VWL thread that model/test rooms are indeed being built in the South Wing and studios, one and two-bedroom villas will in fact replace some WL rooms.

"I just spoke to a castmember who was doing the construction, he looked like he was fairly senior (not a contractor, had a Disney name badge on) about the work being done on the first floor of the south wing. He said that the whole of that wing from the elevators midway down to the end near the lake are being turned into DVC. A mixture of studios, 1 and 2 bed. He also said that they are taking a few rooms from the other half of the south wing (from the midway elevators towards the lobby) for the same purpose. The rooms that have been worked on are 'show rooms' so that people can see what the new DVC accommodation will look like."

Wellllll - I'm shocked, SHOCKED, to find gambling going on here.... "Your winnings, sir - why Thank you" (Casablanca) :).

wdwkook - I sort of told our favorite CMs in the WL restaurants that this would occur about a year ago :). No surprise - the WL, and several other deluxe hotels have hit the ceiling on room price increases. They can't jack 'em up anymore without corresponding discounts - so they are converting to DVC.

Okay, so help me out with understanding. The whole of the wing - does that means one entire side of the hotel is going to be DVC? I get that they are currently doing first floor and I apologize for my complete ignorance. Please don't post about how stupid I am or quote pieces of the above and tell me I should read it (not you WDWKOOK - others who post that way sometimes). I have admitted I don't understand and apologized for my ignorance. I am truly interested in knowing what this means for the WL overall.

From the description given by Cultural Rep, it sounds like the section that I circled in yellow is the section of the south wing that will be turned into DVC rooms. It sounds like both sides of the wing, inner courtyard and villas courtyard, would be DVC. In addition to that entire section, a few rooms in the upper south wing would be DVC rooms, too.

I borrowed this map from the WL Facts thread - thanks WDWKOOK. :)

Thanks - that helps a lot. I didn't even know that we have usually stayed on the South Wing. Now what was written makes a great deal more sense, though I am disappointed that doing seems to be taking a lot of the rooms away from the general public. C'est la vie.

I have been offline and am late in hearing about the construction. Were the compensation offers only for dvc or main lodge non dvc people also? I wrote guest services but they didn't offer me anything. We will be there mid November and although it's not the end of the world, I'm not happy that the beach, campfire and sea racer rentals won't be avaiable onsite.

Thanks!

Who did you book with? this will help those that have already got discount or a move give better advice. Just to confirm is that November this year?

I did it online with the Disney website for nov 13 of this year

Okay from what others have said, contact Disney direct by calling them and tell them you have just found out about the construction and really upset with losing all the things that won't be available. I like quiet time in the day and was worried I would not get that especially with paying the extra to stay there. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Have you not had an email from them yet? if thats the case state that too.

I didn't get offered a discount but got moved to the Contemporary garden wing which I am really happy with x

I have a question about these rooms being converted to DVC....when will these added shares of DVC be sold? Will they wait and sell them when they finish the cottages? Or will they sell them as soon as the rooms are finished? DH and I want to buy into WL DVC direct from Disney and this is what we've been waiting for!!

There is a Disney Vacation Club forum on the DIS where those questions can be asked and hopefully answered. I know that there are certain rules about DVC units which makes the construction of them a little different than if they were just building resort rooms, but I don't know any of the details.

I booked straight through the Disney website and am not DVC. Did you receive a letter from Disney about the construction? I called the number in that letter (it was not the normal customer service #). The first CM gave me details on where the construction was taking place and when I asked her my options for moving resorts, she transferred me to a Guest Services line that seemed to be exclusively for those calling about WL. I was offered the $100/night discount, a switch to another resort, or park ticket upgrades. Nothing was mentioned about a compensation offer until I was transferred to that second line, though.
