Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Awesome, thanks for the replies! Looks like a definite must do for me... Horses and Disney together equals magic in my world. Plus it's my boyfriends first time at Disney so this will be an awesome first experience!:lovestruc

I've been reading lots of information about POR as this will be my first time there and only my second time at any WDW resort so I am very very excited!! Has anyone ridden in the horse drawn carriage at POR?? I'm hoping to do that when I'm there this October and was just curious if anyone here has experienced it. Looks so fun and sweet!

We went on the horse and carriage ride on one of our POR stays (I think it was two years ago) and it was awesome. Our horse was named Sully and I can't remember the carriage drivers name but she was wonderful. She gave us the option of taking a ride down to POFQ or around POR. We chose POFQ and it was lovely! You will enjoy it I'm sure! I think you can book ahead of time which I would suggest. The rides were booked when we were there (early December) and I'm thankful we had reservations.

Anyone stayed in a corner unit in the bayou? I'm thinking it might be nice to stay in a corner unit with an extra window but wonder if it worth the treck if we are located way at the far end of the bayou away from the main building LOL

We just returned from a stay at POR and had a corner room in AB. While I love the corner rooms, we were in Building 35 which was quite a hike from the lobby/food court. I would have gladly traded that corner room for a room closer to the main building. You can try and request a corner room in the AB preferred section (extra charge) and then you'd have the best of both worlds.

That sounds amazing... And I love that you remember the horse's name! I actually called last night and made a reservation so I'm all set. Now I just have to be patient for 79 more days...

Andre...or anyone :-)....Do we have a better chance of getting a corner room (when requested) if we book a Royal Room standard or garden view, or is it equitable? Thanks for your help! ....or, do we have a better chance of getting a corner room if we book a river view room? If we book a garden view, are we making placing ourselves farther from the food court area? I am guessing river view places you closer to food court area?

River view is not necessarily only the rooms closest to the riverbank. We had a 3rd floor room in the center of Parterre Place near the elevators that is considered river view because of the direct view of the river. I personally loved the location because I could see the courtyard and river and it was close to stairs, elevator, and Parterre parking lot. I also didn't think it was a terribly far walk to the main building or food court, it was enjoyable to walk along the riverbank to the bridge between Oak and Parterre. My avatar has a view from the landing below our room.

Is the fire pit at POR by the playground at Ole Man pool light every night, or is there a schedule? (is there anywhere else at POR that you can do smores?)

Are smores ingredients provided free or for sale (if so, what is pricing and could we use DDP credits?)? Or should we bring marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate from home?

You will all enjoy it. We have done it a couple of times and the last time I brought a bottle of sparkling cider and plastic Plastic Champagne Flutes to have during the ride, our DDs LOVED it. The oldest said she felt like royalty:cloud9: If I remember right, I think there was a sign that said "Tipping is not allowed"

Not having done it myself yet...I believe the schedule varies through out the year based on the time of the sun setting. Marshmallows are provided for free, but you would need to bring your own chocolate and graham crackers. Someone correct me, if I'm wrong.

Yes it is on Ole Man island by the playground. Yes it is every night weather permitting. They only supply marshmallows and the sticks. We bring our chocolate and grahams, so not sure if Fultons sells them.

It's pretty even to be honest, all square-edged buildings have corners! :) I would guess that you'd stand a slightly better chance in the Alligator Bayou section rather than the mansion though, due to the layout of the buildings. But nothing would really give you enough of an advantage to sway your choice of booking category.

The best categories to choose if proximity to the main building is your main concern would be Preferred Location, then Royal Room Pool View, then regular room River View.

3pletprincesses, we actually always ask for the building in the back, not because it is close to the West Depot but simply because it feels like home. Think we got a corner room. We have overlooked the quiet pool on more than one occasion also but have never simply faced the parking lot. We always ask for a standard room...

we have never asked for one floor or the other either. Once we were on the first floor but on the 2nd every other time.

Hopefully all the same for our trip (me and adult DS at least) in December 2016

Thank you for your input :) Unfortunately perefered room was not available when I booked our reservation.

Yes every night weather permitting of course. During the summer months i want to say they do it around 7-7:30 and in the winter months it was a bit earlier like 5-6pm for start time. They provide marshmallows and sticks

POR is truly a resort we love. The only request I've ever done was lower floor simply because we are always in bayou being larger family and it's easier with 4 kids in tow and suitcases LOL although I have to admit it was nice to be in the mansion a few years back when the bayou was full and we had an early check in. I think I'll skip the corner unit and wait and see what i'm given once again

I feel the same way about the "back" buildings. Stayed in Building 39 two summers ago and loved it. Requested it for this year. Just that feeling of being tucked away that I like.

We are staying here for three nights over Labor Day weekend. What number do I call to make carriage ride reservations?

Thanks! I've heard great things about Yeehaw Bob and have looked into the campfires they do. Are these worth going to?
