7 Days of Dining at Disney - April 2015 - Finished! 12/30 San Angel Inn

Again your choice looks best! I too do not do sweet breakfasts and always choose something savory instead. Can't go too wrong with broiled bread and goat cheese! :-)

You definitely cannot go wrong with goat cheese. :thumbsup2 As long as it's not in dessert.

The quiche looks delicious! Love Les Halles. :)

I with I'd had time to go back and try something else.

I'm sure I'd be overwhelmed with the choices there too...but looks like you did ok! I'd be interested in knowing that that thing was that you ended up getting was!

Maybe it was a daily special or a variation on a regular menu item. I thought I saw a photo of it on a DR somewhere but I couldn't find anything when I tried to search.

Looks like you did well with all the choices at F&G....I'm glad you told me about the chinese bun thing being like boiled bread...I had wanted to try that...but perhaps not lol...the shrimp looked good though...and that cheese/ham/toast thing looked tasty too!

Whatever you had for breakfast at Les Halles looks delish! DH and I went there for the first time in March -walked over from BWV. I had the cheese plate and loved it. Weird choice for breakfast I know but I'd been dying to try it :goodvibes DH had a chocolate croissant.
We're at BWV again in Nov. with our 2 DS's and I'm planning on walking there for breakfast again a couple mornings.

Oh, and those F&G spring rolls from Lotus House? DELICIOUS!! DH and I split 3 orders over 2 days lol. We missed a lot of the things you tried and they looked good. So much to try there and so little time.......

I'd love to go during a festival to try all the foods. I've heard so much about the cupcake and it really makes me want to try one.

:goodvibes
Next we came to Lotus House and ordered the Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Kung Pao Chicken Bun.

dsc_0567tr-jpg.96634

The boys each ate a spring roll which they loved. The didn't like the sauce, it was probably too spicy for them. I couldn't say for sure because they inhaled them and I never got a chance to try it. :rotfl:
Oh my goodness those vegetarian spring rolls look tasty!
DH and I split the bun. DH loved this. I liked the filling but I'm not a fan of the bun. It reminds me of what boiled Wonder bread must be like.
Is it a bao bun? I guess they are an acquired taste.
I was the only one who ordered at Florida Fresh. I love Key Lime Pie so I had to try the Key Lime Sparkling Wine and from reading reviews I knew I wanted the Shrimp and Stone-Ground Grits.

dsc_0574tr-jpg.96644

The wine was delicious and super refreshing as it was hot. I really liked the shrimp and grits. There were several large shrimp so I was able to share them with Sam and DH. DH doesn't like grits but he tried the sausage. I thought the corn was tasty and the grits were buttery. I also remember that this was HOT, temperature hot not spicy hot. It was kind of uncomfortable trying to eat it in the hot sun.
Hot food is awful on a hot day, I totally agree! What an interesting sparkling wine! I would have tried a glass...or three. ;)
At Primavera Kitchen we got the boys each an order of Cheese Manicotti.

dsc_0583tr-jpg.96635

Sorry about the little boy hand, they were ravenous. :rotfl:They loved these. When I asked what they thought Sammy made a "mind blown" gesture.
Yummm!
We got beers here, the Hefeweizen and the Stout. :thumbsup2
Speaking my husband's language ;) beer I mean. :rotfl: Though I enjoy a stout or a porter on occasion.
Lastly we had the Salmon Sushi and Teriyaki Curry Bun at Hanami.

dsc_0602tr-jpg.96642

dsc_0603tr-jpg.96643

The sushi was good but I thought it was small based on the size of all the other samples we tried. The curry filling of the bun was surprising but tasty. I had the same response to this bun as I did at China but DH enjoyed it.
That sushi is sauced! I prefer tiny bits of sauce w/ sushi, but the curry bun just made me ravenous! lol.
It looks like you tried some interesting bites for the event! :D
Biergarten is next.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Biergarten! My son has requested it as an ADR, and I think we'll do dinner there one night. I hope you all had fun! :goodvibes

I had the Fried Shrimp Plate:
Yum!!! I've only done the fish and lighthouse sandwich (both of which are great by the way) so I'm gonna have to give the shrimp a whirl.

It's funny when you go from finishing off your kids' meals to them eating half of your meal.
Haven't made this kid transition yet, but my belly is not looking forward to losing half my food ; )

The boys of course wanted something sweet and chocolatey but I tried to be reasonable and ordered them each a plain croissant.
Ahh, Mom
DH had the Quiche Lorraine with ham and gruyere:
This looks amazing
have no idea what this is. I can't seem to find it anywhere on a menu. It was a big slice of bread with some cheese - that's goat cheese in the center - and a tomato spread of some kind. It was not what I expected but it was super tasty. DH liked it, too, when he tried it.
Ditto the amazing on whatever this was (I though it was some sort of hashbrowns from the picture). So sad last time we stayed at BW I didn't know they had breakfast in france. Totally missed out
DH and I split the bun. DH loved this. I liked the filling but I'm not a fan of the bun. It reminds me of what boiled Wonder bread must be like.
This looks great, but I love steam buns in general. Have an authentic chinese place by our house and I literally crave them all the time.

The wine was delicious and super refreshing as it was hot. I really liked the shrimp and grits.
Key Lime Wine? Sounds interesting. Was it really sweet?
Prosciutto e Pane di casa.
Ahh, my beloved prociutto. Be still my heart
Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash with White Cheddar Fondue and Pickled Jalapeños
This looks great, but I love burnt meat, or really burnt anything for that matter. Sorry you didn't get to try more of the options

I had to laugh at this one. Thought the bun was a potato ; )

I really like your idea of " eating around the world". On our last DW trip it was the first weekend of F&W so all the booths were packed. We managed to try a couple of things though. We also had kids with us so I would love to go back sometime with just DH and I and snack our way around Epcot! How perfect starting with breakfast in France! Yum!

I am such a bad food reviewer! :o I have no idea what this is. I can't seem to find it anywhere on a menu. It was a big slice of bread with some cheese - that's goat cheese in the center - and a tomato spread of some kind. It was not what I expected but it was super tasty. Tartine Aux Fromages - country bread, tomato sauce, swiss, parmesan & goat cheese $6.75

I knew I wanted the Shrimp and Stone-Ground Grits.
I stopped in here for the tart and the watermelon slush, but as I waited at the window, I couldn't get over how good those shrimp SMELLED! I instantly wished I had ordered some myself, but I didn't want to go back through the line.

DH and I split the Fior di Latte, Prosciutto e Pane di casa.

dsc_0586tr-jpg.96637

This was really good, I loved the drizzle of olive oil.
This is another regret I have! I so should have ordered one of these!

The curry filling of the bun was surprising but tasty.
I looooooved that curry bun! I wish that I was eating one right now! Om nom nom!

Hi! Just joining in, loving your reviews so far! I'd be so overwhelmed with options at F&W, and that toast you had at Les Halles looks incredible!

Looks like you did well with all the choices at F&G....I'm glad you told me about the chinese bun thing being like boiled bread...I had wanted to try that...but perhaps not lol...the shrimp looked good though...and that cheese/ham/toast thing looked tasty too!

Oh, definitely don't go by what I said about the bun. I guess they are quite popular and a lot of people like them. It's not bad I just didn't particularly like the texture. Definitely give it a try. :goodvibes

Whatever you had for breakfast at Les Halles looks delish! DH and I went there for the first time in March -walked over from BWV. I had the cheese plate and loved it. Weird choice for breakfast I know but I'd been dying to try it :goodvibes DH had a chocolate croissant.

I wish I'd gotten to taste the spring rolls but I was afraid I'd lose a finger.

I'd love to go during a festival to try all the foods. I've heard so much about the cupcake and it really makes me want to try one.

It's definitely different. :thumbsup2

Is it a bao bun? I guess they are an acquired taste.

I don't know, I've never had them. I think I just wasn't a fan of the texture, I like lighter and crispier wraps like spring rolls. I even have trouble with steamed dumplings, I prefer the fried ones.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Biergarten! My son has requested it as an ADR, and I think we'll do dinner there one night. I hope you all had fun! :goodvibes

Oh, I hope you're not disappointed. I'm going to get that one up today and I took only one picture. :sad2:

I've only done the fish and lighthouse sandwich (both of which are great by the way) so I'm gonna have to give the shrimp a whirl.

DH and Aidan really loved the fish. It looked good but I didn't get to try it. I had been planning to go with the sandwich but picked the shrimp at the last minute. They were so good, definitely worth a try.

Haven't made this kid transition yet, but my belly is not looking forward to losing half my food ; )

It's weird for sure. Now I'm trying to remember to order adult meals for Aidan because kids meals aren't enough.

This looks great, but I love steam buns in general. Have an authentic chinese place by our house and I literally crave them all the time.

I think it's a texture thing for me.

Key Lime Wine? Sounds interesting. Was it really sweet?

It wasn't too sweet. I don't like sweet wines so I think it had a good balance of sweet and tart.

This looks great, but I love burnt meat, or really burnt anything for that matter. Sorry you didn't get to try more of the options

DH likes the burnt pieces so it worked out.

I had to laugh at this one. Thought the bun was a potato ; )

Yeah, that's why I took the second picture.

Yum!

I was thinking next time we could get them a meal to fill them up so DH and I can enjoy sampling.

I couldn't get over how good those shrimp SMELLED! I instantly wished I had ordered some myself, but I didn't want to go back through the line.

That's too bad. :sad2:

This is another regret I have! I so should have ordered one of these!

Reading these F&G reports gives me nothing but regrets. :rotfl:There were so many things I didn't get to try.

Hi! Just joining in, loving your reviews so far! I'd be so overwhelmed with options at F&W, and that toast you had at Les Halles looks incredible!

:welcome: I was overwhelmed and didn't get to try everything I wanted. There's always next time. ;)

Loving your report so far! The Flower and Garden booth choices look so good, especially your key lime wine!

Your lunch at GFC looks so delicious, also. I haven't been there in quite some time, but may have to make a repeat visit. I'm really craving french onion soup now. Yum!

Day 4: Dinner at Biergarten

We had dinner at Biergarten after having spent the day exploring the World Showcase and sampling the offerings at the Flower & Garden Festival Outdoor Kitchens. This was the one meal that DH had requested because he loves the meat and sausage. I didn't mind but I knew it wouldn't be my favorite meal.

We checked in right on time and were given a pager. The restaurant was really busy and we waited about 15 minutes which I think is the longest wait we had for our ADR restaurants on the trip.

We had a great table location right next to the buffet with a good view of the stage. We were sat with two older couples who were not very friendly. I tried to joke with them at the beginning but it went over like a lead balloon. :sad2: Sadly this is the reason that I have only one picture of our meal. I just didn't feel comfortable taking pictures with them staring daggers at me.

Our server was very nice and friendly but I think she must have been new because the service was incredibly slow. She was obviously really struggling. And when I ordered a beer I mistakenly order the larger of the two - the metric system is hard and I thought the larger was like a pint. She was shocked when I ordered it and a little judgey. Between her and our table mates
I didn't really have a great time. :confused3

This is the picture of my first plate.

DSC_0625TR.jpg

My first plate was mostly salad and vegetables. There was macaroni salad, beets, green salad, pickles, a tomato salad and pretzel bread. It was all good, the tomato salad was my favorite. For my 2nd plate I got more beets, pickles and tomato salad. I also had the spaetzle and I tried the meatloaf, sausage and a beef with brown gravy. It was ok but I wasn't in the mood for a lot of meat. The spaetzle was good but the nutmeg was pretty strong so the kids didn't like it.

DH really enjoyed his meal. He loves German style food so he loaded up on sausage and kraut. Unfortunately in the middle of the meal he took Sammy to the bathroom and was gone for 20 minutes. The waitress took his half finished plate so he had to start over. :rotfl:

The boys enjoyed the pretzel bread, roasted chicken and schnitzel.
Since we were right next to the buffet they got to go up by themselves. They liked that. :thumbsup2

The show was fun to watch but neither boy could be persuaded to go up and dance.

DSC_0626TR.jpg

It took a long time to finally get our check and pay the bill. But she did notice that our card was a Disney Visa so she applied a 10% discount. :banana:I can't remember if I forgot about the discount or never knew about it but I was happy to get it. I was feeling a lot better about the service after that. ;)

totally redeem yourself.jpg

The food was pretty much as expected. I wish our table mates hadn't been such Debbie Downers. Wah - wah! The service was slow but it ended on a high note.

Starring Rolls is next.

I hate it when you get stuck with dud table mates! It makes the experience so much more fun if they would lighten up! We got a dud family on our Disney Cruise this past September. 2 nights of forced conversation after 2 nights of them not even acknowledging us! Painful :sad2:

We ate at the Biergarten in January. For us it was okay nothing spectacular but ok. I enjoyed the sausage and the baked macaroni thing they had. The show was the highlight for us those guys were a lot of fun.

Ugh...I'm sorry you had such downers as table mates. That sharing a table thing can be either a blessing if you get fun people, or a curse, like what happened to you. The food looked decent though...I could live on pretzel bread lol. I don't think my kids would get up and dance either lol...but my DD would probably wish she had later...she tends to regret not doing things! At least you got the discount!

Great review so far! I've been wanting to do Biergarten again on our last few trips, but it's been just me and my husband, & he feels it's more fun when we're with a group of people, so we haven't done it for several years. After reading your experience, I see why he feels this way. It is uncomfortable sitting with the grumpys. I'm enjoying your review. Thanks for sharing!

In our house the Rascal requested it, but then last night told me he's going pescatarian as well, and does not wish to go there anymore. lol.

That just bites! Group dining experiences can be such fun if people can just be lighthearted about it!

That is very uncool, and I'm sorry it happened to you.
The spaetzle was good but the nutmeg was pretty strong so the kids didn't like it.
Spaetzle is yummy bummer there was too much nutmeg. We have it as home as it is a fast pasta to make.
pretzel bread
this sounds delish!
But she did notice that our card was a Disney Visa so she applied a 10% discount. :banana:I can't remember if I forgot about the discount or never knew about it but I was happy to get it. I was feeling a lot better about the service after that. ;)

Woohoo so happy she paid attention to that and made the experience a little better, though sounds like she may be ill-fitted for a job there.

I think one of them must have been the couple sitting next to me at San Angel last trip. Lighten up people, you're in disney world ; )

She was shocked when I ordered it and a little judgey. Between her and our table mates I didn't really have a great time.
With all that beer, I would think a great time would have happened regardless ; )

But she did notice that our card was a Disney Visa so she applied a 10% discount.
Bonus 10% off. Had no idea they did that there. Gonna have to file that away in the brain.

Ugh, this is why I won't do Biergarten solo! The communal seating thing is a nice idea, but when you're seated with duds, it's just awkward! I tried it once about 10 years ago, just me and a friend, and we got seated with a family of 5-6 that treated us like we were completely invisible... to the point that we actually felt like we were intruding on their family dinner! I'm going to give it another try on my upcoming trip, mainly because my uncle loves German food, and my aunt is very chatty and outgoing, but if we get duds, she is every bit as happy to brush them off and just have a good time with our little group! My hope is that we get some fun, friendly people this time around, though! :goodvibes

She was shocked when I ordered it and a little judgey.
The server was? SHAME ON HER!!!! :sad2:

Between her and our table mates I didn't really have a great time. :confused3
Even I would have had trouble shaking that off!

The waitress took his half finished plate so he had to start over. :rotfl:
Well, after being away from the table for 20 minutes, he was probably better off starting over with a fresh plate anyhow.

I was feeling a lot better about the service after that. ;)

totally-redeem-yourself-jpg.98192
HAHA! Well, I'm glad she made up for it!!! Discounts are a great way to get back into my good graces, too! :thumbsup2
