What's The Next Thing To Disappear at MK?

Off topic...sort of....but I sure wish that they'd do a tiny update on Carousel of Progress....it has always been a great spot to sit down and unload in cool air, but boy, it smells so old, carpet and chairs are stained....it has the appearance that it is holding on for dear life!

I agree, I love CoP, but it desperately needs new carpet and chairs. It's horrible that they've allowed it to sink into that condition.

Hear, hear. It desperately needs some TLC. Not to mention that the "present" day stage is badly out-dated now. I think they need to resurrect the original 1960s scene, or do a "future" scene instead of trying to stay current. It is almost impossible to keep that last stage looking fresh and up to date while trying to stay in the present. Things change too often.

I agree. I think the last scene could be updated without changing too much. Or put back in the 60s scene, that would be really cool since it really is a museum-piece at this point. I'll take new rug and seats if nothing else! I hope it gets some love soon.

Country Bears please just go away already. I can honestly say that i know no one that considers the Country Bears as a top 50 things to at MK
Actually we enjoy the Country Bears (once) every trip. My daughter (11) was upset that they didn't have them at Disneyland last year. Of course we like all kinds of humor, even the corny kind.

I go to the Country Bear Jamboree every time as well. It's a nice place to calm down the kids and cool off in the A/C. My kids are little and they enjoyed the music and the bears even though they are way too young for that brand of country and blue grass. I love it for the nostalgia. It is the ONLY thing in Disney World my father ever liked. Brings back memories.

I always have to see the Country Bears at least once for nostalgia purposes. CoP is always fun, but that flat-screen TV just plunked in there did crack me up. (To be fair, it was after midnight and we were the only ones in the theater. I might have gotten carried away.)

I seem to have missed the Alien years, but remember when Stitch was Mission to Mars; my guess is they'll change that one eventually.

They never should have changed Alien Encounter. That was the only truly scary attraction in WDW. I have nostalgic fondness of Mission to Mars, but it wasn't a great simulator. I did like the audio animatronic guys in the control room.

I'm not sure folks have included a simple idea - if Disney is at full capacity now, even with all the recently added hotel rooms, why add any new attractions if they cannot generate additional profits?

I don't get this philosophy - if Disney doesn't stay ahead of things, then they get left behind. Should they only make attraction refurbs/reboots or add new attractions once attendance goes down? Should they just react when needed and not be proactive? You'd only realize that attendance was down way after the trend starts because attendance is seasonal/cyclical anyway. I'd hate to think that Disney would only make a change AFTER attendance was noticeably/significantly down, after accounting for any changes in the economy or whatever. That would be so short-sighted and poor business sense.

Having said that, I certainly don't think that Disney has any plans to make any major changes to MK, not after NFL just opened and the need to focus on HS, AK, and Epcot.

We'll be using Tiki and Country Bears as good places to cool off on the hot days. So even if you don't love them they are good for keeping cool on hot days!

Profits drive the equation.

No, new attractions should not wait to be built until after crowds go down. But that is not the case.

FantasyLand was the largest MK expansion since the Park opened....to meet the challenge of thousands of new hotel rooms.

AvatarLand and a nighttime show (that was seemingly impossible) are being added to AK.

Soarin' is adding an additional screen and Norway and Innoventions are undergoing changes too.

Hollywood Studios has removed it's iconic Sorcerer's Hat, shut down some attractions, is moving Sing-Along, adding another Toy Story track, has added a new stage, and will likely be announcing major changes.....which I believe will be completed by the 50th Anniversary in 2021.

Downtown Disney Springs is once again turning into a destination.

So, my thesis is that the marginal changes that this thread has suggested will not occur any time soon. Oddly enough, you seem to agree.

I love COP but I agree it needs some love. Fix it up. clean it up. and change the last scene. I would love to the see the original one from the sixties. A retro view of the future is always funny to me.

I also love the Tiki room. While Disney should never be a museum, it would be nice to not toss everything to the curb

I like the way you think. Unfortunately, Disney World Execs have a different philosophy. I don't think they'll make any major overhauls soon. With the New Fantasyland bringing in the crowds and the revenue, I doubt that the execs are entertaining any major expansion or remodel ideas for the near future. However, I sincerely hope that in this time of prosperity and ever increasing crowds for the parks that they will at least refurbish the old neglected rides that are in such need of some TLC.

It could easily be considered a part of Fantasyland instead of Tomorrowland.

It really is in no man's land between the two "lands". I have never thought about it before, but the Speedway doesn't really fit either theme, Fantasy or Tomorrow. For that matter, why isn't there a clear separation between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland? That are right at the transition has always taken away from the magic. The Disney difference is the immersion in the world of make-believe, and the area between those two lands leaves something to be desired.
