And he is going on a band trip. One that probably did fund raising. GFM is just a type of fundraising.
LOL, no its a type of begging.

That sure is some interesting rationalizing you're doing. If you can't afford things for your wedding/honeymoon, you have 2 choices...make more money to cover expenses or don't do them.I'd think that common sense would pull through on something like this and that with a registry, no matter what it is, that it would be a guide to helping pick a gift that the couple will get use of, not something that may never make it out of the box. In reality what's worse? Knowing that you paid for a dolphin interaction that may be a once in a lifetime thing and get a thank you card with the picture of the couple with the dolphins? or would you rather see the coffee maker that you arbitrarily bought for them on your own in their first yard sale because neither of them have a use for it?

Ever seen the jars set up asking for change to fund a school trip? Bought a candy bar from a band kid? Or expensive wrapping paper? Or some silly gadget from a catalog some school group sends around? Same thing.
Jar sitting out, kids standing at the intersection with buckets- yes that is the same thing, and I think its just as tacky.
Tell that to the kids that do THON for Penn State....
You know I'm not even sure what kind of response you want for this.
Do you know what THON is? If not, look it up. When they do the THON drive, they are EVERYWHERE. They leave no street corner empty, no storefront without at least 2 kids in front of it. But.. they make millions.... THON 2014 brought in over $13,000,000. So yeah, call'em up and tell'em that they're tacky.
Do you have their number

Not my problem if you can't use the internet.
Raising money for pediatric cancer research is not in the same universe as a band trip or a honeymoon or even going to college.
Oh that poster was trying to be clever. Yeah asking for donations for those in need is so not the same thing as begging in gofundme (or a bucket at an innersection) for a band trip.
Now that you've shed some light on who THON is it makes her posts even funnier
Too bad! Take out loans, work part time . . .
Be responsible for your own future.
Not forced - but it puts some people on the spot. And there are many on fixed incomes that may not make good financial choices or feel pressured to donate when they don't have the funds!
I just roll my eyes and scroll on by

But, but.....drum corps is a NEED, right??
I actually know someone who had a GFM for breast augmentation. She's had several operations on her breasts, and supposedly there was a leak, so she asked for money for her surgery. Not as much of a need as my breast augmentation.
