Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

WARNING*************************************

WAY OFF TOPIC HERE............

There was a discussion about bib magnet holders on one of these threads a while ago. Now I can't remember the name of the company and where to get them.
Does anyone have the contact info they can share, and also curious how well they work if you have tried.

Thank you.

*************We NOW REJOIN OUR REGULAR BROADCAST, ALREADY IN PROGRESS*******************************************

Hi! I've been lurking on the boards for a while, and I finally decided that I would join in the conversation. :)

I thought I would let you know my experience with the magnetic Race Dots. I purchased some a while ago, but I only recently was able to use them this past weekend for a local Dog-n-Jog 5k. I ran with my Dobe, who definitely helped me run a lot faster than I would have on my own. When I run with her, I run with a running leash that has a belt. Maybe I should have thought about this before I used the Race Dots, but I didn't. The belt cut across pretty close to one corner of the bib, and it kept hitting the magnetic. I wasn't really paying attention to it, and about halfway through the race I noticed that I had lost one corner set of magnets.

Thankfully, each Race Dot pack comes with 5 sets, so for my next races I will still have enough for each corner of my bib.

The magnets can be a little tricky to get on; however, overall I think I will really like to use them, instead of poking holes in my nice shirts with safety pins. I think they will work out great for most races without my dog. I do run with a backpack for longer runs, so I may half to position the bib carefully so it doesn't interfere with the pack straps.

Sorry for the long review! Hopefully it helps someone out. :D

.

What an awesome Christmas present!!

I know, right???

Y'all know I had been thinking about it.

I think I made my mind up Saturday morning officially. We were in Dallas to do a charity walk for our best friends' daughter via March of Dimes (she was born premature - 27 weeks!! - but is in perfect health at 8 years old!). The walk was a 5 mile course out by White Rock Lake in Dallas. We got there early because I wanted to get a run in, so I ended up running the whole 5 before the walk started and then went back out and walked the 5 mile course again. The run kinda stunk, because mentally I just haven't been into the whole running thing since I finished my first half - but after about mile 2, all I could think about was Dopey. "You'll never finish Dopey if you can't even do this stupid 5 mile run!" and things like that. I finished the last two miles with the best negative split that I've had during my training (we're talking almost a 2 minute improvement each mile). So, I think that's probably what sealed the deal for me.

I'm so freaking excited. My runner friends think I'm crazy. Me? I know I've got this. I can't WAIT for all that bling.

Keels, I think you're crazy too lol! But I don't doubt for one second that you can do it :thumbsup2

It's fantastic that you have such a supportive family. I love that your parents offered to give it to you as a Christmas present :goodvibes

One question... what are you doing with all this bling you're collecting this year?

Zanzibar!! There you are! I always miss you when you aren't super active!!

Actually, I started shadowboxing stuff ... but I've since gone in a different direction.

I'm working on two boards (one for the husband and I each) that have clips for our bibs and then chalkboard spots for PR times in 5k, 10k, Half and Full. Under that, I have a 70-inch curtain rod that has brackets - all of our medals will slide onto the curtain rod.

I love it! I plan to get a curtain rod to hang my (rather pitiful amount of) medals in our new house. I love the idea of adding a chalkboard for your PRs - I hadn't thought of that. Personally, I'm not attached to my bibs. I kept mine from the Disneyland runs last year for a few months, but just ended up throwing them out in the end :duck:

Medals deserve better than curtain rods! :) Try getting a medal hanger from a company like Iron Sport Works. A friend of mine and her husband own the business. They have really nice hangers for Disney and other themes, and also do excellent custom work too.

Post a pic of your stuff when you are done! I need idea. Mine are all tacked to a bulletin board in my office at work. I really want to display them at my house though.

I agree, definitely look into a medal hanger. This is mine...it's from AlliedMedalDisplays.com:

Is anyone else dying to see the theme for the 5k and 10k? Ugh...come on rD.
YES. :faint:

The plan from last year has the half marathon at week 18...18 weeks out from this year's half marathon is May 10* so while I have to think they'll post it soon, I'm wondering if they'll now put it off until the initial rush of Marathon Weekend registrations dies down next week.

*unless I can't count...I haven't had coffee yet, sooo...

^ maybe now that I've said that they'll post the plans this week just to prove me wrong! You listening, runDisney?!

@FFigawi is yours the Texas one? I forget.

Yes, that's my custom one from the Texas Marathon Challenge a few years ago. Run five marathons or longer in the Texas season (Oct-Apr) and you get a nice running jacket from a San Antonio running store. The medal hanger looks better on the wall. :)

Nice! *applause*

I go with old shoebox for my medals but I did hear a neat idea from someone this weekend. Put magnets on the back and put them on your fridge.

I've seen lots of posts on social media by runners who use Race Dots (magnets). Not sure how they work but I'm also curious. I always run races with a hydration belt that has little tabs to hold race numbers, but I am curious about trying out the magnets. For some reason I feel like I could be worried they'd slide off and I'd lose my number....not because I'm fast, but because I am a giant klutz!! :)

Race Dots. Race Dots. Thank you for the name. I ordered the skull & crossbones magnets today and will let everyone know they perform. Skull & Crossbones because I am preparing for the Pirates themed Disney run in the future. And Pirates are fun. And I like Pirates. Maybe that explains me love of the blingy treasures at the end of a race. And Rum.
Yo ho ho.

The belt/bib holder seems like a good idea and I see them occasionally at some events.
