Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

hi all,

New to the board. But did anybody just get an email from rundisney on buying commemorative items? If you look at the banner, it shows runners with the castle in the background and labeled planning tip #3. However, on the ledge are two jackals looking on. these jackals, of course, are from the lion king. Is this banner standard or does this mean the theme for this year is the lion king?

Welcome to the boards.

I didn't even notice that on the email. It seems sort of weird to have it there so maybe? I don't remember getting emails for tips 1 and 2 so don't know if it's been there before.

I looked back out the "tips" for Princess Weekend, and they all had Aladdin images...so, doesn't seem likely.

Now - why can't RunDisney post the DLH plans so we can get a peek at theming?? I'm dying over here!!

Me too! Hurry up RunDisney!!!

So is anyone going to be annoyed if they work Frozen into the theming?

Me, me... pick me!

Honestly, I'm more annoyed by the Frozen hate and bashing than I am by Frozen itself. I still like Frozen a lot (though I don't think it's as good as, say, Tangled, but I digress...)

I'm not a Frozen hater. I like the movie, it's cute, I saw it at the movies, have it on DVD and watch it occasionally. I just don't get all the hype. I liked Tangled AND the Princess and the Frog a lot better. I'm just a bit fed up with the Frozen overkill. Some of us would prefer other movies to get some of the limelight.

Although I wouldn't mind it as a race theme, I'd much prefer classic Disney! I'm still beating myself up for not knowing about rD when the theme was Alice in Wonderland in 2013 )

Me too! Well, I knew about RunDisney, but wasn't in a physical or financial position to do it that year. I love Alice and TBH was never a big fan of Stitch. I was a bit disappointed when we found out the theme last year, so hoping it will be one I like this year. I'd also like to see classic. My parents had never even heard of Lilo & Stitch so it was a bit sad for them.

While we are waiting.................

POT deadline coming up......next month?!!!

I've got 2 more chances to improve my time with a half this weekend and a 10k weekend after that and then I will be locked in for DDD.
How about everyone else, how are you doing with those goals so far this year?

Ugh... I'm so unmotivated at the moment with our big move coming up! We've been so busy packing and doing last minute things that running has fallen by the wayside. In the beginning, I really had my sights set on the sub 2.5 corral, but since I've realised that's unrealistic for me at this point in time, I kind of don't care any more to be honest. I know that I'll be able to do it in less than 3 hours, so not really concerned about getting swept. But I also realise that by the time the last few corrals start, the character lines will probably be too long for me anyway, so not really concerned about having time for those either.

With my current time, I've probably moved up to the 3rd last corral, and DH would probably go into the 2nd last one with our time from last year's 10k. We do still plan to do another 10k to try to improve DH's time, but at the moment I'm feeling like it doesn't really matter.

Someone please inspire me!

You mean the hyenas? Sorry, but as much as I would LOVE a Lion King themed race, that is a generic banner.

While we are on the topic of medal designs, did anyone see the Pixie Dust Challenge medal? That thing is pretty cool and big. I think it's nicer than the dopey challenge medal.

I am a Frozen lover (I love ALL the Disney movies!), but I don't want it to be the theme for the race. I agree with you guys that a retro theme would be great. How about the partner statue on the medal or shirt???? I would be in love.

As far a POT, I PR'd my half 2 weeks ago by a 1 min and 14 seconds, but it won't move my coral at all. I have a 10K on May 16 that I hope can bump me up one. After a good run today I think I'm ready to get back to speed work. (Yes, I am old and it takes me awhile to recover from an all out effort.)

I briefly thought that too, but on Wine & Dine stuff they use Lady & the Tramp...they aren't the theme for the weekend though.

I'd say it's not my favorite. I did read about the design and I think it's cool how much thought they put into it.

I would love it too - but with the Partners Statue already the focus of the C2C medal, I think it would be doubtful.

While the lion king theme is a possibility I've seen runDisney use the hyena's for other promotional material (including Walt Disney World races) and those races didn't have anything to do with Lion King... So my guess is that isn't the theme. I'm still holding out hope for a "Disneyland" theme... Ghosts from haunted mansion, Pirates from PotC, Small world kids, etc. the 60th is the perfect time to celebrate the park itself. But I'd be up for some classic fab five stuff, steamboat Willie and maybe even Oswald.

I'd say we might need to come up with a game plan if we don't have the training plans posted by next Friday.
But gut feeling says a few tweets and emails from us won't change anything. Lately it seems like runDisney has been posting info at the last moment (e.g. not announcing the challenge and 10K for avengers until a day or two before early registration, same with the 10th anniversary party). So we will just have to keep checking. Ha ha.

Looks like good weather so far(no jinx) for us for Flying Pirate. Hope you have a good race.

Thanks! I will take 50s/60s- partly cloudy -light winds -at the beach - EVERY TIME. I'll be out there both days.
Sending good race vibes to you and all the Flying Pirates this weekend. See you at the after party mateys. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I swore they had that same banner on some of the emails and waivers they sent out last year for the race. It might be they just went with that for the banner theming (in the same vein that Wine & Dine always has Lady and Tramp on theirs while Princess always has Genie & Jasmine I think? Can't remember what the full gets. Tink always has Tink of course).

Either way whatever they pick should hopefully be good.

Happy to report that I'm working my way out of my running rut. Had a great 5k training run this morning, and I'm starting to feel excited about conquering the half distance again. I just signed up for flat, fast half marathon in May - it'll probably be my last effort at improving my POT. But I've also decided I'm satisfied with my current POT, so if I improve, that's great, if I don't, I'm happy with the progress I've made...especially considering last year at this time I was working on just being able to walk a 5k distance within a 16 min/mile pace!

That's good news that you are working out a running rut. Such a great feeling to have a good run.
Flat and fast half marathon sounds very nice.

WAY OFF TOPIC HERE............

There was a discussion about bib magnet holders on one of these threads a while ago. Now I can't remember the name of the company and where to get them.
Does anyone have the contact info they can share, and also curious how well they work if you have tried.

Thank you.

I've seen lots of posts on social media by runners who use Race Dots (magnets). Not sure how they work but I'm also curious. I always run races with a hydration belt that has little tabs to hold race numbers, but I am curious about trying out the magnets. For some reason I feel like I could be worried they'd slide off and I'd lose my number....not because I'm fast, but because I am a giant klutz!! :)
