Tipping Info Thread for Disney Dining

A friend was (badly) trying to "inform" me about Disney dining and was saying that tips are part of the price at high end restaurants like V&A and one other which I didn't recognize (maybe it was in DL) and that tipping isn't done. I couldn't figure out if he was a dining plan guy or not so maybe he was referring to them being included in the plan, but it does kind of make sense for somewhere like V&A where a "standard" tip for two could be over $100.

He's wrong.
Even for V&A's, the price is irrelevant as the items included, staffing and few daily seatings yield the price as such.

If your party consists of five or fewer people, there IS no tip to 'cross off'. Six or more, no, you should NOT cross off the automatic 18% service charge because it IS part of your bill.
You hear about double-tipping because it's so rare, and yes costly. All you need to do is check what you're signing and make sure you're being charged what you agreed (actively or tacitly) to pay - including tip, alcohol, extras. And keep your receipts in case there's a problem.

We are a party of 6 so we will get the auto 18%. How can I adjust our tip up or down according to level of service? I do not want to carry cash.
I would like to use our Visa Rewards card for tips. I don't think 18% is enough for excellent service and do not want to tip 18% if the service should happen to be poor.

I don't understand not being able to change the amount by crossing it off the bill and adding a new amount.

You can't lower it without speaking to a manager. The up it..you do exactly what you said,..The tip amount is shown and you cross it off and add a higher amount in that spot on the bill. They will then charge your rewards card that much...assuming you are on the dining plan and credits take care of your meal.

I'm not sure you even have to cross anything off...I don't have a receipt right with me, but I think there's still another line to add more tip if you'd like.

As for lowering it, hopefully if service has started off poorly you would be trying to get it fixed, and if it stayed bad you would have a manager involved, who would already realize you'll need it to be lowered. Because that's the way, to get the manager involved.

I know people have said that you don't tip at BOG lunch since it's counter service... but is it the same at WPE? They're also counter service, but they're not in the Disney Park bubble and are owned by a different brand...?

Wolfgang Puck's EXPRESS is also no-tipping. It's more like a store where you're buying merchandise.
Wolfgang Puck's IS a tipping establishment.

Food is great at both places.

Thanks so much!

Has anyone tipped using the Disney Rewards Redemption Card before? We're on the DDP so tip isn't included and I'm not sure how tipping with the Redemption Card works...

You will still get a bill, write the tip amount on the tip line and insert your rewards card into the sleeve. Your DP will be deducted and your rewards card will be charged

We will have a party of 11 at all of our TS meals, but 3 separate checks and dining plans. How does that work with the 18% automatic gratuity? I'm assuming we'll get it added since we're def more than 6 :)

each party will be given a check. The grat will reflect only the amount of that parties meal

Is "Be our Guest" a tipping restaurant for lunch since they do deliver food to your table, or is it counter service?

I'm not really sure if this is the place to ask this or not, but I am trying to be Ms. Organization and put all of our tips in their respective envelopes (with a 2 year old, the less I have to do at the table, the better!). But anyway, we are a party of 9 (including my 2 year old), so I know we will atleast need to pay the 18% - and we will have 3 seperate checks. I think I read that she gets a free kids drink, but will eat off our plate. So, when I do my figuring, do I add in her drink amount, our entree and drink amount, and our desert amount (we have free dining)? Also, how much is tax, because I add tax in before I figure out the 18% gratuity right?

I hope this isn't confusing and if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it or let me know and I will. Thanks!
18 percent is included on 6 or more guest. Even if you split checks.

I was just told yesterday that the party of 6 with an infant isn't included in the automatic tip. I am not sure that is correct or if there is a policy change.

I am a server at wdw. It is policy that 6 or more is auto 18 percent gratuity. It doesn't matter if the person is an infant or not eating. They count any body at the table. ( same applies even of you split a check) I hope that helps. If I can answer anything else let me know. :)
