Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread ** May 7-10, 2015

Well, maybe I can actually train for this one. Jeepers. It's finally just about time for Star Wars and I haven't run at all since September for various reasons (some health, some not). Oh well. There's always next time, lol.

May really will be around the corner. Time to get back into things.

They added the training plan for the Pixie Dust Challenge to the RunDisney website.

The first day of training was yesterday, 1/6. This is getting real! :scared1:

I already didn't complete the first session. :headache: I got home from work at 5:30 and fell asleep at 5:45. :confused3 I'm going to try to not get discouraged by starting off poorly.

Does running the Dopey count for the first few training session? If so, I'm golden for awhile.

I did the 3 miles last week and the 4 miles for this week that's on the Pixie Dust Challenge training schedule. I'm quite proud of myself for following the schedule for the weekend days. :woohoo:

I'm still really struggling to get those 30 minute ones in that are two times a week on weekdays. Of the four that have been on the training schedule so far, I've only done one. I know they are important, so I'm still trying to figure out a way to squeeze them into my schedule.

:cheer2: Congrats on completing the Dopey! I can't even imagine doing that at this point. I'd say you're good for awhile!

I signed up for one of the Hot Chocolate series 15k runs. I'm a bit nervous because the time limit is a 15 minute mile instead of the 16 minute mile that RunDisney has. I think I'll be okay, but it's really helping me to stay on track with training since I'm not there yet. I mostly walk, with a little jogging for right now.

Hey, at least if you keep that pace up you know you'll be golden for runDisney!

:yay:
Hi. I have some questions if anyone can answer. What---- If you don't finish the half marathon for some reason or get washed out because you are not meeting your 16 min miles etc....

Do you still get a medal? And if you signed up for the coast to coast medal does that mean you do not receive it (also)?:confused3

Thanks! This is my 1st Disney Run --I'mwalking due to knee injuries. Last 1/2 marathon I did was 10 yrs ago (Rock N Roll - Virginia Beach 2004) & I noticed my time was 3 hrs. 43 mins. with no training but I had no new knee injuries at the time.

If you get swept for not keeping pace or for medical reasons (ie you stop at a medical tent and they hold you due to injury or other medical need), you DO get your finishers medal, but you DO NOT get your coast to coast.

If runDisney does it like years past, at packet pick up you will be given one of those waterproof temporary bracelets like you see at concerts or special events. You'll keep that on through the 1/2 marathon. After passing the finish line you'll get your 1/2 finishers medal then proceed to the C2C table where they will cut off the bracelet and give you the C2C medal. If you are swept, on the bus/van they will cut off your C2C bracelet so you cannot pick it up at the finish line area.

Good luck to you. My DW has been swept before and I've read some truly heartbreaking blog stories about being swept. I would recommend to train as much as you physically are able to do without injury to yourself. And to do your best on race day. As long as you can walk faster than 16 min/mile and avoid stopping for character photos you should be great.

I had my first Pixie Dust Challenge Race NIGHTMARE last night.....it was horrible.:crazy2::(:sad2: I forgot to pick my bibs up. I usually get these nightmares but closer to the race. Oh well...at last training is going well. I hate race nightmares.
Hope training is going well for everyone.

A race nightmare already!?! That's not good. :goodvibes I've been lucky and have only had 1 before. But on the flip side, the closer to race weekend the less I sleep the whole night through so I guess that's the tradeoff.

On another race related note, we only have 2 weeks until Princess and hopefully medal pictures!!! :hyper: :tinker:

Have fun doing Princess. Hope to do that again one day.

We'll be at Disneyland in two weeks playing in the snow with Olaf.

Oh no Princess for me!! I'm just excited for picture posts from the expo. After last year, as much as I love Disney and rD, I don't think even a free trip could get me to run that one again. :rotfl2:

2 weeks sounds nice! I really want to go down again, but no time. :sad1: But I have Tink and then my sister and I planned a trip down Memorial Day weekend and then they announced the 60th starting that weekend, so super super excited about that one.

I got my Coast to Coast at Star Wars in January - they did NOT cut off my bracelet. I was actually kind of upset about that because I had no way to get it off and it was driving me crazy :-)

Can't figure out how to do the quote since the format has changed ????

Good for you going down over Memorial Day for the start of the 60th. What fun !!!!

I was at DL for the actual 50th and it was really a once in a lifetime experience.

At the very bottom of each post in the right hand corner is a "Reply" button/link thingy. If you click on that it quotes the person you want to quote. ;) I miss the feature where you could just pull up the tab at the bottom to forum jump instead of going to the table of forums and then into wish or dl and then into events or dl itself.

Thanks for posting the photo.
Can't wait until May. Now to figure out what to wear for the 10K and challenge theme.

I ran the Hot Chocolate 15k in Atlanta in January and it seemed like the pacing requirement wasn't super strict, especially if you start in one of the earlier corrals you should be fine, at ours they split the corrals in 2 groups and the second group didn't even start till 15 or so minutes after the last corral from the first group so there was plenty of time to finish ahead of pace from the early set of corrals, in fact I think I still saw people finishing as we were already heading back to our car

Oh, that's good to know. I'm doing the one in Seattle this weekend and I have a sinus infection and just don't feel ready. I do know I'm in corral K and the map has up through corral O, so I hope I am able to finish!

In my training, I've been just over 15 mm but my longest was only 5 miles. I started out very consistent with the training plan and then just fizzled a bit.

Anyone looking for Tinker Bell costume pieces for the race.....Target has some perfect Tink pompoms for shoes, in the dollar area. They are technically bunny tails but it definitely would work for Tink shoe pompoms too.
