Of course you could make the same case for Staggs. He's done basically nothing during his tenure.
Avatarland
Euro Disney two bailouts
Marvel Expansion at HKD
Yeah, he's the definition of riding the wave.
I wouldn't call it a marvel expansion it's one ride thing more. I think more were involved in the bailouts than just Staggs so yes and no on that one. So avatar is really the only one.Of course you could make the same case for Staggs. He's done basically nothing during his tenure.

Well avatar is actually well along in construction while we don't know much we do know there will be two rides in what is looking to be a massive building.Listen...
We still don't know what's going in with avatar...neither a clue as to what they're building and if that has a prayer of being anything interesting...
Approved marvel at Hong Kong?
Ok...guess that's ok
Bailouts in Paris? That's a sign of insight/strength?
What were they gonna do... Pull the Disney signs down under cover of darkness and take the pirates of the boat ride?
Like a KFC that falls on hard times...
Gonna need more there

Here's where I'm coming in with the expansion view. My view is if it's unused space, unaccessible to guests, and giving it a new purpose that enhances guest offerings it qualifies as expansion. It meets all three of my admittedly arbitrary criteria. Sure it's one new ride, but it comes in a previously undeveloped area. As a bonus it has a whole new Stark Expo themed zone supporting the ride including a meet and greet. Of course it's a bit up to personnel opinion, but I feel it definitely qualifies as an expansion to Tomorrowland (however small).I wouldn't call it a marvel expansion it's one ride thing more. Exactly my thoughts!Listen...

On a positive note, he has a degree in microbiology. Perhaps there will be a major refurbishment of the Wonder of Life pavilion!
Now THATS funny.................of course what isn't funny, is the sad course that Disney seems intent on taking. I had JUST posted, before seeing this, that they need some one to take over the parks that CARES about the WHOLE picture ( which even IF it cost them money, it would reap BIG $$ back). This is very disappointing and depressing news.
Ok I see where your coming from. In my opinion an expansion does what you said but should include a bit more like for instance NFL that was an expansion two rides meet and greet and a restaurant. Here's where I'm coming in with the expansion view. Now this is interesting. I'd counter that looking at Staggs past career as CFO (aka accountant) it would be just up his alley to orchestrate those deals. Of course he didn't do it alone; but most decisions require outside vetting from corporate and the board. I don't think this is really any different then the wrangling required to get Avatarland through.
Even if you do count these two he's not done much. Oh, except maybe ride a wave of attractions already under construction. While everyone is enjoying those Dream Class Ships, Aulani, the New DCA, NFL, My Magic, and the new HKD don't forget Staggs had nothing to do with them. (except maybe the mine train) This should be a good two decades of corporate leadership.
We did forget his biggest most profound accomplishment though.
Meg Crofton is out!
We can thank him for something...
I see that. You're right about it being, at the very least small.Ok I see where your coming from. In my opinion an expansion does what you said but should include a bit more like for instance NFL that was an expansion two rides meet and greet and a restaurant.
Regarding the cruise ships I don't really know who to necessarily credit because I don't know when they booked the building yards. Sometimes companies book those almost a decade in advance because they take so long to build.
This new guy will just enjoy the title until the already planned stuff is done.
I know Disney directly doesn't have anything to do with it but Tokyo has some massive expansions on the way that the imagineers are working on. Also the new hotel at Hong Kong.I see that. You're right about it being, at the very least small.
That's a good point on the Cruise Ships. Either way it wouldn't have been Staggs responsible. I still think Rasulo is likely the guy who did it. He came into the post in 2005. The contracts for the two new ships were announced in 2007. So there's two years of prep time. Features, design, and real information was released in 2009. There's an additional 2 years more of design, concept, and engineering. Then she launched in 2010. So in all 5 years of time. I'm sure that the ball may have already been rolling on a new Cruise Ship project. With that said, Rasulo was definitely the guy who committed the Walt Disney Company for nearly 2 billion dollars with of ships. I've seen some news stories that say as much. I give him the credit.
The question I have is what is planned?
Avatarland
Disneyland Paris
New Marvel Ride or Expansion at HKD
Oh, and Disney Springs...
Those are official. We do know Star Wars is in the works at both coasts. Pixar Land seems to be a go. Marvel add on to DCA is rumored. Of course all these projects could get derailed or shelved at anytime. It happened once to Star Wars.
The one other project is the riskiest. Shanghai Disneyland. That one may take a couple years to bear fruit though. It'll be interesting to see how that works out.
I think we're also missing another point with this hire. What the heck is Staggs going to be doing for the next couple years? We know Iger likes a more layed back approach to managment. Now there are two of them. I think they may be specifically choosing a weak internal candidate so Staggs still has a something to do while he waits. He can focus on Parks and Resorts while Iger cares about everything else.
If we got 80s 90s Eisner heck yeah!1) Supreme Being. Master of the Universe. The All to End All. Please help me and forgive me for what I am about to say.
2) I want Eisner back!
. . . yes, he was autocratic the "second ten years"
. . . yes, he wanted evrything his way
. . . yes, he did care for guests and the Disney Experience
3) Now, we have Ogre (I mean Iger) and his minions.
Please no... The world doesn't need more HKDLs, DCAs, WDS, under built DAKs, empty hotel rooms, Mission Spaces, and misdirected funds. Let's not forget how he let Walt's Magic Kingdom rot away. That was the most terrible, and gross thing he did.1) Supreme Being. Master of the Universe. The All to End All. Please help me and forgive me for what I am about to say.

Well then Iger should learn from the past and not of brought in Chapek. Like I said if it was Eisner from the 80s into the 90s we would be ok later Eisner not so much. I will say without him we wouldn't have AK and that is my favorite park behind MK.Please no... A guy who cares about guests doesn't hire Pressler. Period. He may have during the 80s or early 90s. Those days are long gone.
Let's just calm down, and remember all the crap he did. Never again.
What's wrong with the Disney vault? I think that is brilliance for a company actually. I don't like that he has zero parks experience. He came from consumer products that could only mean more consumer products at the parks that could get bad.
I understand I'm not in that position. I have most of the Disney movies on VHS actually and own one VCR because of that. Here's why I don't like the vault. I have a 2 year old son who loves all things animals, I can't tell you how many mornings he wakes up asks us to go to the zoo. We have an annual membership to a local zoo and go quite often because he loves it so much. Therefore, he loves The Lion King.
We bought it before he was born when it came out, I don't know why, but for some reason we didnt get the digital copy.
I want the digital copy, I will pay for it, gladly. Dear Disney, please take my $20 so my son can watch one of your movies over and over and over again.
Why not just watch the bluray or dvd? We do, but I'd like to get rid of that device from my entertainment system, as well as the dvd players in my car. I want everything to be digital, and things like this are holding it up. If this were digital, my son could watch it on the Fire TV or on my Kindle.

First world problems I know, but people would be paying for this right now.
