direct to room check in??

it says several of the resorts including POP started it TODAY!
my online check in is tomorrow so i'll see if direct to room is an option.
i hope it is cuz i rather just get off the bus and head to my room rather than have to go through the check in process even though i'm already checked in. (true its a shorter process with online check in but still a process)

You would be texted your room number when it's ready. You have to select this option in MDE just as online check in

It was only a matter of time. I like to throw out the old "destination Disney" program that was started to include this very thing...

Other things in that?
Magical express...magic on demand (that's the GPS and dispatch bus system)...integrated purchase/ticket/resort control devices (sound rubbery and familiar?)

That was an early 90's concept/program that was limited by technology

As much as things change...as much they are 100% the same

What about the packet you get when you check in at the hotel? With the map of the resort and everything? Do you just not get it if you do direct to room check in?

Good question...

The desk will still be there - for sales if nothing else - so imagine you can pick it up if wanted. But at far reduced staffing...which I know personally they've wanted to gut for years.

Other options could be that they presend it to you at home...or send it electronically.

In theory - the app that you basically must have to do any modifications/track fastpass could have all of that information...
And big brother could even custom tailor it to you.

aggred, the package will probably be in the room or pre-sent. I would lean towards the package of info being put in your room tho.

I would say this option is more for people who know about the resort and don't need the map and front desk talk.

You get a parking pass in the packet I wonder if they would just give you one when you come through the guard gate now?

Could probably magic band your entry for those that drive in, or mail parking pass and room materials with your magic bands. It's all very doable, just different. It will take a while for guests to adjust their habits to match it.

When we went to POR this past June, I received a text saying that my room was ready and what room number we were in. I did have to go down to the front desk later to grab a resort map and a parking pass.

If you use magical express and know the resort I would expect you would not have to do that.

The guard gave us the parking pass at the gate for Boardwalk 10 days ago. They seem to be prepared for this rollout. They also called ahead to the valet to look for a "silver sedan" where there is a person with a touch pad who I believe would have fully checked us in if we had known to go to her. We didn't do that though - we parked ourselves and went to the lobby.

No, we didn't use Magical Express. We rented a car and drove to the resort. I got the text when we were on the way to the resort from the airport. We went directly to the room and noticed there wasn't a resort map and parking pass. So I just went down to the lobby. The lady said that this is the disadvantage of not checking into the lobby first is that you have to come back anyway and get the map and parking pass.

I didn't say you did. What I was saying was if you used magical express and knew the resort well you wouldn't need to go back and get a parking pass and map.

i assume the packet will be left in your room and a resort map will be sent as an attachment via the text or email that tells you your room number.

I guess I'm thinking
There are maps of the resorts in MDE

Yeah but do they have room numbers? I didn't think they did. We are stay at GF for the first time this Sept. I wouldn't know where to go. I hope they keep this an option instead of making everyone use it. Though if they send the map it might help.

I'd be worried though this would make it more difficult to switch rooms. I've always checked in and looked at the map to see where we were if I didn't like it I would ask very nicely and point to the spot I wanted. I usually got it too. I'm thinking this will make it harder.

Now If I were you then I would go to the front desk. I feel direct to room check in is for repeat guests who know the resort and don't need that face to face check in.
