From the Sea to the World - Completed!

LOVED the pics of Germany! :thumbsup2 One day my ancestral roots will call me home to Leipzig which is where the Gentsch and Von Hommel branches of my family tree hail from. More please?

Boo to the trip ending but yay for the next one being just around the corner and 4 weeks!!!! WOW

I will say yes I can see why exactly that was the inspiration for the EPCOT pavilion.

Sounds like your holidays were great, with Michael being able to come visit for a while.

I hope I can get back here to wish you Bon Voyage again but safe travels and lots of rest and relaxation and pixie dust. :goodvibes

This day started out badly: with packing!

:sad1:

I love roasted garlic! (we better don’t mention that I was going to board a nine hours flight across the Atlantic later that day…)

:rotfl2::rotfl:

I had spaghetti with meatballs as this is something that is not known in Germany. I have had it before and really like it, so once I saw it on the menu, I knew what I wanted!

Always interesting to read things like this, because spaghetti and meatballs feels so common here. But then again, it is a great meal. That's probably why we eat it so much. :thumbsup2

A week from tomorrow I will leave for Florida.

:woohoo: This is much better news!

And I think I need to get some Key Lime Pie!

::yes:: :thumbsup2

More a photo album than a TR. I hope you are going to enjoy it!

Absolutely!

This is considered one of the most quintessential towns in Germany.

Wow, this looks just like Epcot! :lmao::rotfl2:

Some of its buildings were used as inspiration for the Germany pavilion at Epcot. It is really rather pretty!

Just kidding above. I can definitely see the influences. What a beautiful town!

Wonderful pix of Germany and the food looked fabulous!!!

Glad you like the pictures!

Leipzig is a wonderful city! My sister Katharina went to university there and she and her husband (then boyfriend) loved the city. I have been planning to go back there for a visit for years, Michael and I even talked about going there in winter, but then it did not work out. So, sorry, no pictures of Leipzig!

Yes, I sometimes feel like I could bounce off the walls with excitement!

We had a lovely time, but it was far too warm and too little snow (yes, I know for those who suffered through this year's winter in North America that might sound like I am crazy, but since Michael has lived in Florida for ages, he was rather looking forward to see snow falling - and it only happened once late at night...)

I hope I can get back here to wish you Bon Voyage again but safe travels and lots of rest and relaxation and pixie dust. :goodvibes

Thank you! :goodvibes

Here spaghetti bolognese would be the common dish - and in my family we had that a lot. But not with the meat balls!

:woohoo: This is much better news!

Yes, I am so excited! But it sounds like you have a fabulous summer vacation planned as well!

Wow, this looks just like Epcot! :lmao::rotfl2:

It is incredibly beautiful! One of the things that always hurts when visiting it however, is that Nuremberg, where I live, must have been equally pretty. Looking at old pictures, it was truly stunning. Until February 1945 when 90% of the old city was bombed to ashes. Always makes me so sad at how Germany could start such a useless war that not only destroyed so many lives, but also history and beauty. They did a respectable job at recreating the city after the war. But it was called Germany's "jewel case" before...

Directly after New Year we spent a few days in Paris, followed by DLP. The way we did it, we arrived at the first day that the low season prices applied for the hotels at DLP, but the Christmas celebrations would still be around for our first two days. DLP hotels are usually rather crazy expensive, but we managed to get a great discount of 40% off through the French website (you can book through any country’s website and they offer varying deals so it makes sense to shop around). And since early January has the lowest rates anyway it turned out to be only slightly more expensive to upgrade to their new (rather basic) club level.

But first Paris!

We went there because we had found out that there was this exhibition going on:

DSC01999.jpg

It’s a Pixar exhibition that has been shown at other cities as well and we were very pleased that it happened to be in Paris when we were there since neither of us had had a chance to see it yet.

When we got there there was an incredible long line for tickets and we were quite shocked. I started to investigate on my phone whether it would make sense to try to pre-book tickets for a later time and come back later. While doing this, a security person came up and started to speak to the people in front of us in line in French. I was a bit concerned that he was saying that they had to cut off the line there or something like that. They had a brief conversation and then they all turned to us and looked at us questioningly. Since we both don’t speak French that well, we said that we did not understand what they had spoken and the man of the couple in front of us was so nice to translate. It turned out that the security guard was in search of two people who would be willing to take over someone else’s pre-booked tickets. But we would have to be able to pay in cash and the couple in front of us did not have cash. But we did!! I was still a bit suspect, but the security guard came back with real tickets and we gave him the money and he then took us past all the people queuing, even those queuing at the entrance for pre-booked tickets (there was also a line, but a much shorter one) and we were inside. All in all, I think we spent 5 minutes in line!

The exhibition was very crowded, but we did enjoy it a lot! It was all about the creative process of creating the characters and the environments of the Pixar films. Lots of wonderful artwork!

This is the building from the other side, it is quite interesting:

Our second day we had pre-booked tickets for the Eiffel Tower. They are at the moment renovating it, so lines are even longer than usual as they only use one lift. Pre-booking was quite essential!

I love all the pictures of Paris decorated for the holidays! Those pastries look great too!

I was SO excited to see the Paris update! I have a flight book to visit the end of September but still have pretty much all the rest of the planning to do. I'm looking forward to your DLP updates as well.

Every time I thought I knew all the tricks, somebody points out a new one.:thumbsup2

Cool! So glad that worked out for you! It sounds like a neat exhibit.

Fantastic view, and fantastic pictures!

Proof that I was on top of the Eiffel Tower:

That looks like a great experience. This is what we would call a Bucket List item.

Since we were booked with a package at one of the official hotels we had length of stay park tickets. So the plan was to head out to DLP in the morning and make use of the day.

Since we were booked into the Golden Forest Club, we checked in a little private nook next to the main front desk. The CM checking us in was very nice and cheerful and she gave us all our documents, park tickets and bonus FPs. For staying at the GFC we got one fast pass per day to use at any time at any attraction we wanted. There was a time restriction that it could not be used during the most busiest early afternoon, but that was fine for us. The lovely CM also arranged for our bags to be kept with bell services and then we were heading to the GFC lounge to check that out before heading out to the parks.

First a few pictures around Sequoia Lodge:

We had a drink there. The interesting thing is that the drinks are not self service, you have to wait for a CM to serve you. Sometimes it was a bit annoying, but generally it worked very well and the CMs there were all rather nice.

Now heading out of the hotel and to the parks…

Coming from the hotels you walk through DLP’s version of Downtown Disney, called Disney Village. There they had some little Christmas market stands:

And at the end they recently opened a new World of Disney store:

And finally we are at the Disneyland hotel which is right in front of the entrance of Disneyland Park:

We got there just in time for the Chrismas Cavalcade. This is a mini-parade with three floats that runs several times per day during the Christmas season.

We did not stay long, we wanted to get back to the hotel to check out our room. We got an upgrade to a room overlooking the lake – even if it was from a corner. At first we were a bit concerned as the room was directly opposite the elevators, but it turned out that this was not an issue with noise at all. First of all, the GFC rooms are all on the two top floors and those are not very large at all, so less foot traffic and it seemed that most people were well behaved and did not scream in the hallways and the room was pretty sound proof as well.

This was our lovely room:

We headed back to Disneyland for the evening. First to see the rather magical tree lighting show. It does not take long, but it is very charming! Difficult to photograph, but here is a picture of the tree at night:

DSC02287.jpg

We had dinner in the park, at the Plaza Inn. It is a buffet and we thought it was kind of ok, but not in any way memorable. Unfortunately DLP has introduced its version of a meal plan, it is called the “Half board plan” and that means that they need to feed so many people at table service places every night. They have introduced lots of buffets, I guess that is the easiest if you have to cater to various tastes of people from different countries.

After dinner we saw “Christmas Dreams”. Dreams is a castle show with water fountains, projections and small fireworks. It is very charming. They had a special Christmas edition, which had something from Frozen in it. It uses some of the same technic as World of Colour and the projection like the show they have at the Magic Kingdom before Wishes. We really liked the Christmas edition as it was new to us. But we later heard that the regulars really hated it and were complaining about it a lot. After the first two nights, it switched back to the normal Dreams show for us (Christmas season was over) and we saw the normal one as well and had to admit that was indeed much better. It is such a wonderful show!

Leaving the park we peeked into the Disneyland Hotel and I have one picture of the lobby there:

Simply beautiful.

From your time in Paris to the Christmas decorations in Paris and DLP.

Your room looks great and a pretty good view too. :goodvibes

Time flew! That's the only explanation that I have for why this TR is not totally finished by now. Tomorrow I am leaving for the next trip.

I will add the last final thoughts and the rest of the DLP pictures when I come back - at the end of May.

But now I hope you all will have a wonderful May - I know some of my readers have trips to WDW in the coming month!

I hope to come back with plenty of pictures, stories and memories to then start the next trip report - I guess that would then be "From the Sea to the Land" which makes for a good sequel title to this one!!

Have a fantastic trip! Can't wait to hear all about it.

The pictures of Paris are nice, but my favorites are those of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Wow! The food pictures helped, but wow, what a place! :goodvibes

I like your pictures from and of the Eiffel Tower though. I'll have to show Marlene! :)

Hi Magdalene!!

In all the craziness of life, I am still around- checking in as I can. If you hadn't heard, I did make it into next Fall's Nursing Program; the wedding planning keeps me more than busy; I'm working still almost full-time until the end of June; and ....

Your lunch at Portobello looked lovely. I was surprised to see that pasta with meatballs and tomato sauce isn't something you can get easily in Germany! It's so common here...

Sad to see you flying back home, but such lovely memories to look back on that you can always treasure! :cloud9:

Now back to read some more... :)
