Sanaa recommendations please...

Great Thread, I would like to see more suggestions and descriptions.

We are going for dinner during our upcoming spring break trip. It will be our first trip to Sanaa. My family finally approved a visit and I have been wanting to try Sanaa for a while now.

My family is really picky DH and DD. I suggested the butter chicken for my husband but DD is more of a plain eater. Do they have plain roasted chicken? The chicken can be lightly seasoned.

Thank you :)

They have grilled chicken on the kids menu. Tandoori chicken is very mild & baked.

I agree with loving to see more suggestions and descriptions. :thumbsup2 I think it is the overplanner in me.

The tandoori chicken was good, but not as spicy as I like it.

We liked the bread service the best.

OMG! That looks wonderful! Thank you for posting it. It reminds me of a gyro. I do like spice myself. Most dishes we prefer more spicy than not.

My son wants me to carry a bottle of siracha in my purse so he can add to most of his meals. A few years ago, he wouldn't even try a spicy dish - now he's addicted to the spice! :smokin: :rotfl:

I THINK the Tandoori chicken and Tandoori shrimp in that form (on Naan bread with cucumber raita) is only served at lunch, at least it was when I was there several months ago. At dinner it's in a bowl with a separate bowl of basmati rice. I much prefer it the way they serve it at lunch, one reason why I like lunchtime better.

I think I prefer the lunch menu too.

I have tried many things but only enjoyed the following:

Short ribs, burger, vegetables and Chai Cream for dessert (one of the best in WDW IMO) Lemonade was awesome.

Did not like the bread service, hated the butter chicken (made of crappy chicken parts) ...

Short ribs...yum! I used to  the short ribs at Jiko they had a few years ago. The ones with the Kenya coffee rub. I was so bummed to find out they changed the recipe when we were there last year. I may need to try the Sanna ones to compare. My hubby loves lemonade, so I'm sure this will go on his list to try. Thanks for the recommendations. :thumbsup2

Good to know for the folks who aren't into the spicy.

No one can type the flavors that are unique to Sanaa. Photos can't do it either but works better than words. Love Sanaa for its view. A crowned crane stood at our window and watched us watching it in fascination. Be brave and explore new flavors few of us can find back home. Another thing I enjoy is the way the tables lend to an impression that a fewer number of people are present with you than actually is the case. Don't go if you are in a hurry. Take your time on purpose. The noise and chaos of Boma is not present. My soup of the day was carrot-ginger YUM do inquire if it is on hand for you too. After the meal go outside and stroll to the center of the savannah where in the evening there is a fire pit. Our ADR was just before sunset so we had a view of the evening feeding. You only see a log out there but on the other side is a food tray for the animals. Stop fretting the ADR choice. You will depart full and smiling.

I COULDN"T agree with this more. Sanaa is such an experience, and a fantastic one at that ! One of my other favourite parts of it is that the prices are SO reasonable, but the experience is so unique. We have been to Sanaa and Jiko, and dollar for dollar, Sanaa wins hands down !!! Just relax, enjoy, and remember, it will stay with you for years :)

Thanks. Good to know. We plan on dining here on our first day. We have been to Jiko several times and are looking for something different. It sounds like we made the right choice. We enjoy reading reviews and getting recommendations from others. :goodvibes

Instead of siracha (which can be messy if anything happens...) I sometimes carry a small bottle of cayenne pepper with me. Disney tends to err on the side of caution with spices.

The tandoori chicken I have had (even in Indian restaurants) has not been spicey. Maybe other posters are thinking of chicken vindaloo.

We went in August for the first time. The lamb shank was the best lamb I have ever had. My daughter had the pot pie and thought it was great, and she is not a very adventurous eater.

My pickiest eater got the grilled chicken/pita dish shown above. He liked it, but he wished he had asked for the sauce on the side. I'm not sure if the menu makes it clear that there is sauce on it, so always ask to be on the safe side.

We tried Sanaa for dinner for the first time on our trip two weeks ago and will definitely be back.

We started with the bread service (definitely go for the nine dips...it's only $2.00 more and even though you likely won't like them all, it's a fun appetizer) and a salad trio, splitting both between the five of us. For the bread choices, we LOVED the Garlic Ginger Naan and we also though papadum was a good choice in that it's crispy as opposed to soft and you could break it up a little easier to dip more! For the salad trio, we really liked the chickpea with watermelon and tomato and the watermelon, cucumber, and fennel salads.

On a side note, does anyone know if you can order extra bread?

For dinner, I had the sustainable fish meal which was good, but not fantastic. Still, I wouldn't be opposed to getting it again. The sauce over top of it was great.

We also had a Tandoori Chicken meal which, despite what some say above, did have a slightly "spicy" sauce. I personally had no problem with it, nor did anyone else in our party except my mom...the very person who ordered it! The chicken itself and the rice that accompanies it are not spicy, but the sauce does have a slight kick. That said, this would be the meal I get when we come back.

The rest of the group chose the "slow cooked in gravy" duos and they were mixes of butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, beef short rib, shrimp in green curry sauce, and spicy durban shrimp. The beef short rib was the favorite, followed by the butter chicken. I personally thought the shrimp in green curry sauce was excellent, but I'm a fan of curry in general.

Sanaa was our first meal we had on our trip and it's absolutely a place we'll go back to. Seeing as how we own at AKL-KV, I don't know how we've skipped this, but I'll be heading back to the bar for that bread service!

Sanaa is on our short list of approved Disney eateries. We are food snobs. ;)

It's African-influenced Indian food, basically. Some of the "spicy" dishes we got were actually spicy, others were not. They were all quite good though.

Next time we're going to go earlier so we can see more animals when it's lighter out. :)

Picky eaters at Disney can avoid a world of hurt if they always order sauces/relishes on the side.

Thanks. Some of the sauces my DH might not be a fan of, so I will remember that.

It's great to hear how much you all enjoyed the dishes. This makes us more excited with each post to try. We would like to add this to our short list of the approved too! :goodvibes
