WISH Away the Pounds Outstanding October Challenge -- Everyone welcome!

Hey DIS friends - I'm Bev, an old timer and MIA for quite some time! :wave2:

OhMom is my DD and Taylor my DGD - I'm joining in here to get my mojo going (again) - seems to be the same ol same ol - I do well then I stop doing the things that work !

So, one of my goals is journaling EVERY DAY - not the guessing I've allowed myself to settle into (again) :cool1:

I'll be back tomorrow with my WI number and weight goal

Glad to be a part of the Oct challenge - thanks to the moderators and for the inspiration we can give to one another!

Hi, everyone!

Lisa, PM is sent. I'm officially in! :)

I'm Liz, 41, with a great DH and two wonderful DDs (just turned 9 and 6 1/2 - she'd want me to mention the 1/2!). We live in northern VA. I have two jobs - one with a big university in DC, and one for an academic journal. Both are desk jobs, and both give me a good amount of flexibility. I commute typically one day a week, working from my home office the rest of the time. It's a lifesaver when it comes to juggling work, home, the kids' schedules...but I still feel overwhelmed a lot of the time!

I made my goal weight with WW back in 2001 after having been overweight since high school. I maintained until I had DDs - gained 80 with the first and 60 with the second. I lost the weight in between and some after the second but had a hard time getting the last 25 off. In early 2012, I decided I was going to lose the weight and get in better shape. I started doing Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30, and I climbed firmly back on the WW wagon. I made my (slightly revised) goal weight in June of 2012.

In May 2012, I started running. I've now completed 4 half marathons, with two more to go this year before tackling Dopey in January - I follow the Galloway plans and am a big fan of those walk-run intervals for anything over 5-6 miles. Otherwise, I just like to get out and *go* - I never thought it would be true for me, but running is an incredible stress reliever!

I managed to put on a whopping 12 pounds over the summer - just completely let things go foodwise while still running a lot. It doesn't even out on its own. ;) So I came to the September challenge with a big goal of dropping 10 pounds, and I did it! The next goal for me is to work on the last few pounds between where I am now and my official WW goal weight. Here goes!

XO
Liz

Only have a minute here but I wanted to say HAPPY OCTOBER to everyone!! Did we all make the move to the new thread??

I probably won't be on again today as I am subbing at the elementary school right now and then will go straight to my WW meeting tonight. Just wanted to say hello and wish everyone a great day!! I have on a dress that makes me feel good and pretty (which is a big accomplishment for me), so I am having a happy day! Hope you all do too!...............P

I'm in for this month too.

My name is Jennifer, or Jenn for short. I have been married for 11 years to my DH and we have two kids. My DS is 7 and my DD is 4. I work full time at a hospital and then it's straight to the school to pick up the kids.

I started really trying to lose weight in February of this year. I'm counting calories and trying to work out when I can. I have managed to lose 37 pounds so far this year. It is nowhere near my goal, but it's a good start.

My goal for the remainder of the year is to lose at least 10 pounds. Well, that's my weight loss goal. My other goal is to learn to resist the temptation of pumpkin spice. I can avoid many things, put yesterday I bought pumpkin spice waffles, pumpkin spice cream cheese, and pumpkin cookies. I think I lost my pumpkin loving mind yesterday.

Hi ladies! :flower3: Glad to be back for October! :yay:

I'm Kimberley and a former CT transplant (yay UCONN! :cool1:) to south Florida, where I reside with the BEST DH, and a kooky, silly black Lab Calypso paw: (whom I'm completely obssessed with :goodvibes), and random packs of ducks which live on our lake. :boat: I'm stuck at a desk all day at a job I REALLY don't like, but it pays the bills and allows us to make lots of trips to WDW! :dance3: I live for running and am currently in training for my second Wine and Dine Half in November and my first WDW Half in January. The DH and I love to scuba dive, :fish: which I am sad to say we haven't done in WAY too long, and I'm usually up for just about any kind of physical activity. :dance3: I also love good food WAY too much, as evidenced by a 10 pound gain which started during the BEST vacation ever to Italy back in May. I am happy to report though, that after a last minute surge, I somehow possibly managed to lose 6 last week! :cool1: I think a different scale may have something to do with it, and may not be totally accurate, but I'll take it! :lmao: I've been following WW Online for a year and a half and have found it to be the only plan that has ever worked for me. ::yes:: No one but me actually considers me to be overweight, but since I have ongoing knee issues due to all my running, the less weight I have to carry, the happier I think they will be. :goodvibes And as I still have completing a full marathon on my bucket list, I'd like to make it as easy on my joints as I can! :p

Oh I know this one. I've thrown in the towel for this. It will be my one treat this October. Pumpkin Pancakes every Friday at IHOP with my BFF at lunchtime! There is no resisting them - but with only whipped cream they aren't TOO bad. They just aren't quality calories! But I figure if I give myself this treat once a week it will keep me good the rest of the week. Let's hope!

Love pumpkin spice everything too!!! At least it's not as bad as eating heavy cream-filled things, right? If you make your own, you can control the amount of sugar that goes in! I try to stick to the pumpkin spice candles. Almost as good as tasting it is smelling it. Almost. ;-)

:welcome: to all our new and returning participants! I'm so happy to see each and every one of you. :goodvibes

I've enjoyed reading all the introductions. I'm sorry that I can't do the usual replies to each of you but thanks to you filling up my PM box yesterday and today with all of your info and goals I am going to call myself caught up from here. We are going to have a great month! :cool2:

A friendly reminder that even if you chime in on the thread that I am updating the list from the PM's to be sure I have all your information. :flower3:

We're off to a great start! :cool1:

I think this is my longest DIS post ever, LOL.

Good luck this month everyone. :)

LOL! You'll be surprised at how chatty you get when you hang out with this group! ::yes::

:welcome: Bev! I do remember you from previous challenges and I have to commend all three of you ladies but I do think we've ever had three generations of a family in a challenge before. :cool2: Way to make this healthy living a family affair! :flower3:

:lmao: Where is that tag fairy when you need her? :tink:

Hi everyone! I'm excited to be here on the W.I.S.H board!
My name is Jillian, I am 20 years old. I am in college for Early Childhood Education, and have dreams of opening my own preschool. I love children! I also currently work part-time as a Photographer's Assistant. I have been going to Disney since I was around 8 years old. I now go with my boyfriend and family at least once a year!(Hopefully we will start going more!) I first started a weight loss journey after I was involved in an accident with an 18 wheeler. I gained about 10 pounds from having to stay on bed rest for about a year. I am very ready to get rid of it! My goal is around 5 pounds a month, unless I can get it off all in one month :lmao:
I just started running, WHICH I LOVE! I hated running when I was younger, but now I can't get enough! I hope to start a Pre-Trip/Training report soon, I am running the 2014 Wine and Dine Half!

I think that's about it for now! I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Joining in for a truly outstanding October! Have not had a chance to read through the thread yet but glad to be here with everyone! Good luck to all as this new month starts.

I have just a minute to pop on here while the kiddos are at recess. I see it is "introduce yourself" time, but since I tend to be long-winded, I will skip that step until I am home.:rotfl: Can't wait to have a minute to read everyone's introductions.... especially you newbies!!

I'm thinking about giving myself some sort of "October challenge".... maybe a particular exercise every day or trying some sort of new eating pattern (something that would fit within WW). I just feel like I need to try something new. Any suggestions? If it were a fitness thing I could still fit it in before I sleep tonight. It would be such a nice feeling to do something EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm playing with the idea of Rose's "mile-a-day" thing.... when I do exercise I usually do several miles, but lately the exercise has been SO LACKING that just committing to 1 mile EVERY DAY would be a step in the right direction. Or maybe something like the "plank-a-day" challenge I did this past March?

I see the recess kids lining up, so I need to dash for now! TTYL..........P

At my weight loss group in the UK, we do something called the 777 challenge. 7 glasses of water a day, 7 different vegetables a day, for 7 days......people on average see a loss of 2 - 4 lbs a week on this. (You do get to eat other normal food too, not just the 7 veggies...you can count salad stuff too, but not fruit due to the higher sugar content.)

LAST CALL FOR FINAL SEPTEMBER WEIGHTS........quite a few of you still haven't PM'd me, so I'll be updating the fnal colours tomorrow to give you a chance if you've forgotten.

If someone wants to come up with a mini-challenge for the month of October that would be great! :thumbsup2 I'm open to anything as long as I don't have to keep track of it. ;)

A few years ago, I hosted a 100 crunches & 100 pushups a day challenge. Maybe we could do something like that, but modified, perhaps to 50 and 50 or 100 of one or the other? Is anyone interested? If so, I'd be glad to host it.

Truly the best thing I did for myself this year was to challenge myself to a mile a day everyday. I am still a little disappointed that I have not run them all (I have walked a bunch), but despite all the craziness around our house lately, I have kept it up. I have walked or run a mile in all four disney parks, with friends, family, in several states, around at least 4 of the wdw resorts. In my old neighborhood, in my new neighborhood, in at least 4 different parks in Louisville. It has kept me grounded. I can't even really explain what I have gotten from it. I even squeaked one out after my bad fall in July--though TigerLily volunteered to do it for me, which was awesome.:goodvibes

Anyhow, I strongly encourage mini daily challenges. It's not always easy, but it really is a huge feeling of accomplishment!

QOTD--Hi I'm Rose. :) Been doing challenges since 2010. Lost ~50 pounds, got pretty sick, gave up gluten, dealt with a bunch of injuries, got healthier, gained a bunch back. That pretty much sums it up. I am frustrated with myself for putting so many pounds on this summer, but I am ready to get to it and get my weight back down. I see the frustration as an excuse to quit, so I am working hard to let it go and to concentrate on one bite at a time, one mile at a time, one day at a time. I am 46, married, one DS who is in grad school 500 miles away. I work part-time. I think I am just about at menopause--which is adding a whole new level of challenge to things, but I know it's doable, so here we go!

Welcome to all the new folks!
We are back from visiting DS and ready to get settled in our apartment at least until we figure out where we are going in our life adventure. Our house is officially closed, the mortgage paid off, and the new people have moved in. Still a little sad, but mostly ready to get organized! :)

QOTD Monday, September 30, 2013 and Tuesday, October 1, 2013: Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your goals for the challenge and the rest of the year. You don't have to share numbers, it can be general.

:thanks: for hosting the thread this month!

My name is Elizabeth. I am pushing 40 and am originally from Chicago. I live in middle Tennessee, halfway between Knoxville and Nashville. I have one DD7 and this month marks my 10th anniversary married to the best DH ever! This is my first full month on this board. I joined in mid Sept because I had confirmed my reservations for our first Disney trip next October (2014) and I refuse to be heavy for that trip.

I had not been overweight until I was put on bedrest during my pregnancy with my DD. Seven years and about 80 pounds or so later, I do not think that excuse is valid any more. I have about 60 more pounds to lose to reach my goal of 125. I do struggle taking off the weight because I work full-time and am in my last year of college. I am a history major with a minor in legal studies and I intern for our county's Public Defender Office. If I am not at work (I work from home at night) or at school, I am in court. I love 2 of those 3 things - school and court - but am looking forward to quitting my job as a medical transcriptionist and working as a paralegal/legal secretary after I graduate next May.

I love the support this board offers! I saw that we have 3 generations from one family and that is particularly touching to me. What a great commitment to make together! :) I cannot post often because I am usually sneaking in reading while supposed to be doing something else, but I enjoy so much reading each post by all the great people here.

Good luck to all this month - it is going to be the best one ever! :cool1:

My other goal is to learn to resist the temptation of pumpkin spice. I can avoid many things, put yesterday I bought pumpkin spice waffles, pumpkin spice cream cheese, and pumpkin cookies. I think I lost my pumpkin loving mind yesterday.

Throw me in the pumpkin boat :)
I love this season! My big pumpkin downfalls are pumpkin pie bagel from Panera, pumpkin spice coffee/latte, and pumpkin roll. I'm doing good so far, but will definitely splurge once in awhile!

I hope everyone is off to a good start today. I am finally home after work, a long walk with the dog, dinner, and soccer practice for DS10. Now I want to catch up on a couple DVR'd shows and cheer on the Buccos (Pittsburgh Pirates for you non-western PA people :))

Pamela-I would love to participate in a challenge a day. I loved when I did Jillian Michaels 30DS. I felt so accomplished crossing days off the calendar. For today I'll just count my 2.5 miles. If someone wants to decide & make it official, I'm in :)

Have a great night!

Jill
