Disney quick service to begin offering printed allergie info menus

Perk? We have not had the experience of getting to skip the line. We wait in line to get to the cashier to have to wait for the manager. Then wait while they cook safe food.

Really? In WDW that was not my experience. I would ask the "greeter" or person who was standing at the entrance to the restaurant what I should do since I had an allergy. That person always went and got the manager who would then take my order, lead me to the cashier, and get my food personally. I thought that was what always happened. Maybe I had good luck.

You must have had good luck, but then again it looks like you were last here a few years ago? A lot has changed. Living locally we spend a good bit of time in the parks and stand in line and wait.

Yes, it's been almost 2 years exactly (October 2011) so it's very possible things have changed since then. Man I miss those allergy free chicken tenders. So good. So sad they don't have them at DL.

The worst waits for me have been at cosmic rays. No matter what time if day I'm there I gave to wait 20 or more minutes to talk to a chef. I know what I want, what is safe, usually what is available and I am comfortable with my choices. I liked the BOG ordering kiosk where I could enter the allergy. The food came out separately from the non allergy.

And on another nite, the gf allergy free tenders at CHH are so good. I love that they are fried. The baked ones are just not as good.

They don't have them in dl you should go to guest service and suggest they get them. I am surprised they don't you think they would since they seem popular.

That would be so amazing. We have always had to wait through the line... and I've tried asking if they could page in advance and they just say you have to wait your turn. So you wait in line, wait to page somebody, then wait for the food. We've had to wait up to 45 minutes for our food, so CS has taken a solid hour before we eat. We eat early and always go at the end of August so we are not talking about waiting because they are busy. Our worst wait was actually last year at Backlot express, where we were one of maybe three groups in the place when we entered. We've had to mostly give it up for table service without all of the unknowns we keep running into.

Just got back DD has Dairy, peanut, tree nut allergies. We went to CHH( always a stop for us) They had the allergy menu. DD always gets the chicken tenders here but we STILL had to wait for a manager and still waited the same amount of time as all the other trips before. I don't mind waiting because I know its for my DD but honestly it didn't speed up the process if thats the intention.

Clearly my experiences are not in the norm according to everyone else. :lmao:

Maybe the number of allergies has increased a lot in the last few years so they don't do it that way any more? :confused3

Not sure what is supposed to be funny.

Personally, in all the years I am lived near WDW-I have never had the experience you described. I am a little surprised by your experiences and am starting to wonder if having allergies is going to be viewed by some as the next "perk" and wonder if Disney will feel a need for another change. If people think those with allergies are getting something they aren't-Disney may feel a need for more change.

Were you given a printed menu that listed the ingredients?

No the menu listed headers. Dairy Free Choices, Egg Free Choices etc.. There were 4 separate categorized on the menu I forget the others sorry. But there was a warning to the shellfish/ fish allergies that they may not be able to accommodate them

I have had that experience at the resorts but not in the parks.

I hardly think skipping a line a couple times at a quick service restaurant would be considered a perk. I know I called it that a few posts ago, but I was being sarcastic. I'd gladly give that small thing up to be able to eat anything I wanted. And I only have one allergy.

And they already are changing, having it more readily available and accessible.

And to clarify, I may have skipped the line to the cashier at the QS (Peco Bills and CHH off the top of my head), but I still ended up waiting at least 15 minutes longer than my friends who waited in the regular line.

They had the printed menus at the very end of August- the categories and items listed are the same as you get on those pdf brochures if you email special diets if that helps you any.

Thank you for saying you were being sarcastic. Too many times people read these boards looking for accurate information and are mislead when they see posts like yours.

I have heard they are still trying to "find a good fix" for the menus. It is still a work in progress and the menus are not available everyday due to ingredient availability (Chef changes-my opinion). I know they are also working on the stand at AK. One of the Moms I know had a completely different experience that I did- so we are tag teaming them next week to see what changes they have made in AK. I have had a couple of Chefs comment that they are seeing more true allergies vs. "picky" eater claims. It would be nice if the Chefs were free to handle the allergy people (that no one else can serve).

For the most part I think the resorts are a little different since there is not usually a "line". I know at the food court areas you can ask just about anyone and they can page a Chef for you. (Them actually showing up or not is a hole other story). At AOA recently the girl stocking the mugs went to a phone and paged. So no line jumping-there was no line.

We just got back. We were given pages to look at that listed what was dairy free, peanut free, etc by the cashier but still had to wait to order with a manager. Still had to wait longer to receive our food which I do not mind doing at all.

Major disappointment was BOG. We went for lunch and they did not have us talk with a manager. The cashier puts a filter on the her screen like "dairy free" and it brings up all the meals that are dairy free. So, for my 4yo, it was meatloaf and braised pork...neither of which he will eat. The item he would eat is their pasta with marinara but it comes with mozzarella on top. They would not make it without the mozzarella. So he ate fries and that was it. Iirc, there were no options for a df dessert either. Really disappointed in them. So much so, that we cancelled our dinner ressie :(

Only place we were given a book with ingredient pages for each food was Casey's Corner. It has in big letters at the bottom what allergens are in each food. So the mini corn dogs said "Contains wheat and soy" at the bottom. I was about to order those for my dairy allergic son when I actually read the ingredient list. In the batter for the corn dogs, it listed 'non-fat milk'. I pointed that out to the manager and she said she was glad I actually read the ingredients.

I suggest if anyone not happy go to guest services and discuss your problems with them. They do listen and they will make changes if they see a lot of people having a hard time. Don't go to guest services and be mean to the cms he'll at them remember they not the ones who put this into place. You will get further doing that then harassing cms at ak of chefs at resorts because chef talk and they remember problem guests. So they will be less willing to work with you if you give them problems not saying any diser gives the chef or cms problems. You will get more if your nice wheatear it at guest services or at a restaurant.

That is so sad!
When we were turned away at Pinocchio and sent to CHH last month that is pretty much how it went, but the manager came out and confirmed that we had to order from the allergy menu... only DS has multiple allergens so none of the items overlapped. My son isn't picky and has been known to tell the chefs "whatever you can make me" when they ask what he wants. So it's not like we asked for anything they didn't have. He goes for plain meat, steamed veggies, white rice, etc.

For the future, dinner at BOG is table service, and for us was handled like a normal table service. I have only head similar, so if anybody hears differently I am interested. They came out and made something "off menu" with what they had. I can't believe they wouldn't do the macaroni without the cheese, that is so crazy. I believe you, sometimes customer service people just make no sense when you ask for something simple. You know they have non-allergy kids ordering it without the cheese every 5 minutes anyways.
