Official Dancing With the Stars: Season 17

Amber, another good dance.

9's? Maybe the season twist is that you can score higher than a 10. 9 is the new 7.

Love Sharon Osborne!!

Wooo, Amber was great! She was working that stage with Derek and looked like she was having a blast.:thumbsup2 Derek makes his partner always look good.

I swear, there is just something about Derek! The man has talent. He knows how to highlight assets and disguise faults. That girl got out there and shook with the good Lord gave her and she shook it well. She did fantastic!
This is the first time that we've got to really see Derek work with someone with no dance experience. But then Amber does have to learn some choreography on Glee.

Neither Shannon Elizabeth nor Jennie Garth had dance experience, either. I'm not sure about his other partners as I can't remember who all he has danced with.

The must have told Bruno to settle down. He is a lot more subdued with Elizabeth's critique.

Just realized who Elizabeth is.

I guess dance experience is a poor choice of words. He has always gotten "good" partners. He hasn't had the variety as say Cheryl or Tony has.

Brooke Burke didn't have dance experience, either. I can't find anything on Lil Kim having previous dance experience. Joanna Krupa took ballet as a child. We all know about Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey. Rikki Lake had some training in broadway style dancing, but nothing really extensive. Kellie Pickler was a cheerleader, but I'm not sure I would call that dance experience.

All of the other pros get people who have taken ballet, have been on broadway, or somethings similar from time to time, as well. I think people just think Derek gets the ringers because he is one of the pros who really knows how to choreograph to strengths while disguising weakness. Some of the pros are better at this than others.

I haven't watched this in several years, but decided to try it again tonight. I turned it on right before Elizabeth's dance. I was very surprised to see several lifts. I didn't think they were allowed to do lifts until later in the show, but I guess that's an old rule.

:wave2: Hi everyone! I just saw this season's thread so thought I'd jump in. Looks like a good season. I have watched a lot of the shows they are from, with the exception of "SNicole" (didn't watch Jersey Shore) and Corbin? I know the movies he was in but didn't see them. I like that the scores are right away, and we don't have the race up the stairs view, lol.

It depends on the dance style. Argentine Tango and Contemporary are two styles that allow lifts. She was dancing Contemporary so it was allowed. If she had done, say the ChaCha, lifts would not have been allowed.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the explanation.

Dancing to "Weird Science?!" :rotfl:

I'm not saying that the other pros don't get people that haven't had dance experience but Derek's never gotten a female Andy Dick or Wynona. He's never had a partner like Florence Henderson or Valerie Harper. I'd like to see him really challenged, show us what he could do with someone that can't keep a beat or is older. Even though some of those you mentioned didn't have any "formal" training, they could keep a beat, had rhythm, experience with some sort of choreography, etc.

His "luck" with partners has been a complaint on here for years. I guess we can agree to disagree.

V.A.L.E.R.I.E!!!
