Howdy! FW Cabin FAQ Thread!!

Don't know much about DVC stuff, but I'm pretty sure you have to go to guest services at the park to convert/buy AP passes.

:thumbsup2 I'm definitely thinking you made the right decision  Much easier with that golf cart!

This is a link to a great website that has tons of useful information.

Allears.net

You should be able to open the map and see prices. As far as choosing a cabin, guess its subjective. We tried to get one that was not close to the entrance because it's so far away from everything else....I think those are 2700 and 2800 loops. I would just look at the map and decide what looks best for your family.

Happy Planning!

Was able to print and actually see the map!! Thank you! Time to catch up on some reading!

Here is the thing I am looking at. I am going to request a cabin near a bus stop if possible. I am getting conflicting reports if there is a bus stop between the 2400 and 2600 cabin loops. I have seen maps that show it, some don't. Don't know which map is newest. Disneys maps on there website shows like there is.
So is there or not???

ALSO, along them lines. Is there a loop close enough to the front to walk to the front bus stop (to go to the parks)? For example, couldn't tell by google maps but on loop 2800, is there some cabins that have some back paths to the front? Looks like I saw some hidden in the trees.

Not sure if I can answer your questions, but maybe Allears.net can. Click on the link below. There's a wealth of info about FW. I'm always referring back to them for answers.

Thanks. Since you have been there maybe I can ask you or anyone that reads this, if I wanted to be close to a bus stop and maybe closes to the pool/laundry facilities, what would you suggest a make a request for? I know they aren't guaranteed but I would like to try.

First request - loop 2500, it's right next to the pool and laundry
2nd request - loop 2600, right across the street

We've had 2500 numerous times and it's perfect for us. We usually do laundry at least once and go to the pool daily. Now that there's a hot tub at the cabin pool, we have no reason to go to the main pool. If I could pick one place to spend my days, it's around the cabin pool at the Fort. I listen to the birds, watch the lizards and just enjoy the atmosphere. Last trip, the music got on my nerves though. They had these Native American chant songs that really got screechy the 20th time you heard it!

I just got finished reading all 37 pages!

We're planning to stay in the cabins this coming February. Based on what I've read, we're renting a golf cart. DH and I both think it will actually end up being a favorite part of the trip for our kids ;)

Because we are getting a cart, I don't really care about where we are in proximity to things. I'd actually just like a pretty/scenic site. Any suggested loops?

BTW: I emailed several golf cart rental places before making the reservation with the Barn at Fort Wilderness. Each company replied and said that Disney no longer allows them to deliver carts to Fort Wilderness. If I went and picked it up from them, I would be allowed to bring it in, but seeing as how we're flying in and using Magic Express, that won't work :(

Hi,
My family and I will be staying in a cabin in late November. How early should you reserve a golf cart? I hope it's not too late already. Also what is the cost for a week? I see that it's $59 and day.
Thanks
Scott

If you're going over Thanksgiving, you should call and reserve soon. They also have a cancellation policy where they will charge you if you don't pick it up. I ran into that one time, completely forgot I had reserved one because we moved to a different resort. They called me and I had to talk them out of it!

There's no discount for a weekly rental.

Thanks, we're going 15-23rd. Wow, not even a small discount? I will call when the phone lines calm down.

Not even a small discount. And I'm pretty certain the current rental rate is over $60 + tax.

We used to book through Disney/Bike Barn, but last trip decided to use Kenny at Tee Time Golf Carts. Not only were they pleasant and easy to work with...the price was only around $225 tax included for 7 nts/8 days. I highly recommend them.

Either way, book a cart asap.

We are going Nov. 11-19th and have DS 18, DD 16, DS 15 and DD 11. We are not concerned, but we have always shared beds in hotel rooms and our kids aren't uptight about sharing beds. The cabin itself is one of the most spacious options onsite.

I would go for it because my family is close this way, but only you can judge your current family make-up.

Would you put the 3 and 5 yo in the double bed, and the older kids in the bunks? That sounds perfect.

Your only other choice is a family suite or two rooms. The cabin is a great choice to give younger kids a nap space and older kids plenty to do at the resort. Plus the full kitchen really comes in handy for breakfast, snacks and some meals.

BUT Fort Wilderness is spread out and quiet. If this is your first trip and if you've never been camping, you may not be prepared for the style of vacation that you'll get at the Fort. In that case, I'd recommend a family suite at All-Star Music. The 3 and 5 yo can share the pull-out couch, the 11 you can have the ottoman bed and the 16 yo can have the chair bed so same "sharing" set up.

Thanks guys. We do caravaning so we are use to being in small spaces and we are going to a villa off site for 10 days after disney stay. Think I will take plunge :)

What DDP Counter service options are available at FW? It seems sparse, but what about these take out items at Trails End? Anyone try them?

FINALLy finished reading all pages in this thread.. It's made me so happy to read all the good things about FWC!

After the FDP info came out yesterday, we advised our TA that we weren't eligible for any FDP upgrade where we were (AoA) so we wanted to change. when SHE called (waited 3 hrs on hold, so glad it wasn't me!) she found teh only place we could work would be at the cabins.

We now have two cabins at FWC booked, each will have 3 adults and 2 kids, (12 & 13 in one, and 8 & 9 in the other). Good thing we're close families.. :grouphug: ...Should've seen my DH's eyes light up, when I told him there was fishing... LOL!

So, thanks for all the GREAT info here, and I will for sure be subscribing. I'm positive we'll love it! :cheer2:

Welcome, I also ended up moving from POR to FW cabins because of free dining and have consumed this thread. I'm currently trying to decide what loop to request and how to handle breakfast and such since counter service isn't readily available. Let's share ideas.

I'm considering the same move, for the same reason...what convinced you to make the switch to Cabins vs another resort, vs waiting it out for POR?
