Target 5% back--does it work with Disney gift cards?

This may have already been answered so sorry if I'm repeating (there's pages and pages and pages of responses on this thread!). Can I use my Disney gift cards to make my $200 deposit when I make my Disney reservation or do i need to do that on a credit card and just pay the rest of my trip with my gift cards?

Jw because I read that 2014 packages will be open soon and i have plenty of gift cards saved up!

You or your travel agent can use the gift cards for the deposit, but it has to be called in. I do it for my clients all the time! :)

Just bought mine tonight with the additional 5% pharmacy savings. Unfortunately because I have had my card less than 3 months, it wouldn't go through for the amount I was spending... over $2000 to pay off our August trip. But the customer service on the phone and store manager honored the 5% red card and I used my debit instead.

I did get quite the looks but hey, I saved over $200.

That's great!!! I've heard many stories of the stores honoring the 5% savings with your back card when they see you have the Red card, the first time I bought the gift cards after 43 the red card stopped me, we called and they asked to speak with manager to tell him to give me the 5% ( plus my pharmacy reward) but he refused! I just got another pharmacy reward a few weeks later went back got another 40 ( 4 separate purchases of 10) had no problems! Paid off trip with $400 in gift cards to spare for spending money!

Question for the pharmacy 5% savings. How long you usually have to use the reward once it is recieved? Is it something I could hold into for a few months? Or is it generally only good for a month or so?

I don't have one to look at right now, but I remember it was about a month and a half or so before expiration. They also come with an online coupon as well, which I think has a longer expiration. You can use both!

Thinking of getting one of these cards to pay off our September trip. What is the purchase limit within 90 days? I'd need about $1600 to pay off our trip. If the limit is say, $1000, can I do 2 purchases under $1000 each?

Also, I'm in NJ and as such can't get pharmacy rewards, but my Mom, in NC, has a reward she's willing to give me. Anyone know if I can i use it online and have the cards shipped to me in NJ? I can always have them shipped to her in NC, and she can send them to me if necessary.

TIA!

You know it's funny but no one can tell you the limit, a lot of times it will depend on how long you've had the card, how much you use it and your past totals.. That's how it was explained to me when I called.

Now you can only purchase 10 at a time so you'll have to do multiple transactions and there is no way to know really how many Red Card will allow. I've had my card over a yr use it constantly b/c I love Target and it would only allow me 5 separate transaction per day so I had to make two different trips for a total of 83 cards.
Of course the pharmacy reward is only good for one day so I had to wait for the next pharmacy reward to go back and get the rest but I ended up saving $415! Paid off my trip and used my saving to buy $400 worth if cards to put towards our spending $!
Between this savings and the room only code we were able to upgrade from POFQ to CR Tower Room with Bay lake view..

I'm not sure if you can use your mothers rewards or not??

you should be able to use it and have it shipped to you in nj, just make sure she gives you the online code. If she's giving you the actual reward card you'll have to go in a store to use it.

When did the limit of 10 come about? I purchased $800 worth the other night with my red card and pharmacy rewards, and had no problem at all. But I frequently shop there (like 3 to 4 times a week) the entire front staff know me, and I've paid off my entire trip with them, short of the $200 deposit and now I have all my tip money and souvineer money on them. I was buying $1000 worth at a time a month ago to pay off the trip. This must have just occurred this past week.

It's for online. The limit is ten at a time so you have to do multiple transactions. Buying in the store I'm not sure if there is a limit or not.

No I was limited to 10 at a time ( but did multiple transactions) in store., I also use my card weekly and front end manager, head cashier and 2 others know DH and I pretty well..

Sometimes some managers will over ride the sales to allow you to go over the limit but the last time they did it for me corp sent a notice to have that cashier/manager written up so I won't do that again.. Buying over 20 gift cards send up a fraud alert.

Like I said I was able to get 43 ( 4 transactions) first time then after getting another reward 40 more (4 transactions) for a total of 83 cards.. Paid off trip and still have $400 left towards spending money for our Sept trip! Contemporary here we come!!!

None of the stores in my area limit the amount of cards you can purchase in one transaction...in fact the managers in the two stores I visited told me they could care less if I wiped them completely out! And I was able to purchase 40 ($50 cards) in one transaction. However, the biggest issue I have encountered is with the Red Card folks and their limits! For one, you can never get a straight answer from them as to what your individual limit is. I have had my card for over a year and use it weekly, and I can tell you there has been no rhyme or reason as to how much I can spend before I get denied. Perfect example was about a month ago, I went in to one of the stores to buy 80 cards ($50 ea) to pay off my August trip. The first 40 went thru no problem. The minute the manager went to scan the 2nd half, it wouldn't go thru. We got on the phone, they couldn't offer any explanation and asked the store manager if she would overrride the system by still giving me the extra 5% but allowing me to use another form of payment. This particular manager would not allow me to do that. So, I waited a couple of weeks and went to the Target closer to my home to get the next 40 and surprisingly, it woudn't go thru. I showed my receipt from 2 weeks prior to show I had no issues with buying 40 at one time. We called the Red Card folks and they had no explanation as to why this transaction wouldn't go thru as they could clearly see my last 40 went thru with no issues. So we tried ringing up 20, and it went thru no problem. After going back & forth with the Red Card folks and wasting over an hour and a half in the store, the manager felt bad and did allow me to use another form of payment and gave me the extra 5%. In the end, was the hassle worth it to me to save over $400? Yes, BUT, I think I'm going to get rid of the Red Card debit and open the Red credit card instead, this way I'll already know what my limit is ahead of time so there will be no guessing. There's just no consistency with the Target financial folks and that's what makes me crazy about them!

Not knowing your limit with the Red Debit really bites! I mean what happens should we choose to buy a big ticket item like TV?

:thumbsup2 exactly! That is what makes me so crazy about them and is the primary reason that I'm truly thinking of switching to the credit card instead of the debit...even the manager at my local Target recommended it as she herself has had issues with the debit card and limits.

Great suggestion about checking the back of the card. I would never have thought of that. I have been purchasing the gift cards in the same manner every time I get one of the pharmacy rewards. I have three cards now for the extra 5% off I need to use before July. I have about $400 so far that I plan on using for on-board credit. plus whatever more I decide to buy.

Do you need to use the gift cards by July or the 5% off certificates?

This is a reprint from the theme parks page, but I should have posted here....

So I thought I'd share my little ticket-drama...lol

I have been buying target gc for over 1 year. I paid my entire resort ressie with $50 gc, no problem. I already knew that there would be issues with tickets; I called a few times in April - May always got the same answer "You can only use 2 forms of payment, but when you get to guest services they will happily take them all." Not really the answer I wanted...but the answer I heard most often here so not unexpected.

Yet there were still a few people who said they had done it, so I emailed WDW to clarify their policy and received an email that they will be happy to take giftcards on the phone and gave me a number...

Now mind you, I wasn't expecting miracles, but with email in hand, I figured I would try some polite nudging. A nice woman on the end said the normal spiel and further complicated my life, by saying "Sweetie, they can't do that at the parks, either" Now generally speaking, it is safer to go with info from the boards than the CM's, but this still freaked me out, so I politely asked to speak to a manger and after about 10 minutes of the CM explaining to me, that they would not be able to do anything, she put me through.

After 30 minutes of holding and 2 dropped calls, where I had to call back, the woman on the other end put through the ticket order with 27 - $50 gift cards.

Mission Accomplished

So resort $2800, tickets $1400, photo pass+ $150, so far over $400 in savings:cool1: We plan on paying of meals via resort with gift cards, as well!

Mission Accomplished

Just keep in mind that you can only redeem 2 gift cards at a time on the phone. I ran into this last year and had to drive 90 minutes to a Disney store to buy my park tickets with the gift cards.

Not true, although you may get CMs on the phone that don't know better. I used up to 20 in various over the phone transactions.

When purchasing tickets, there's a limit of 2 payment types per transaction on the phone (like 1 gift card, the rest on a credit card or you could do 2 gift cards). For making payments on your reservation they can take as many as you have.
