WHY do parents allow children to run in the cabin hallways??

Just don't understand some people I guess...

If my kids are in hallways so am I. They know better if I'm with them. I hope they always respect!
Stairs doesn't bother me, we are all awake there.

It is annoying. In general, more and more people just have NO RESPECT for others these days. I always feel like I'm the one moving out of the way for other people. Every time I do something in public, I always consider people around me. It really stinks that not everyone is like that. In the meantime, I definitely take control of my 4year olds behavior...especially when in public. I will not allow him to become that tween boy who thinks grown adults should have to make way for him.

Not everyone parents the same though. A lot of parents just think their children walk on water. And then there's the parents who just don't care.

I will yell at kids who are unsupervised running amuck. If they want to call me an old hag, so be it. If their parents want to approach me for yelling at their kids, let them! They will not like what I have to say back. And if a kid is running around like crazy, I will not move for them. And, I have said things to kids behaving like that. Usually, I get a very respectful apology. It's reassuring that they actually are good kids just having a good time.

I have some of these same questions for adults onboard sometimes.

I like this post... U have said what I been trying to thanks:)

I would be carefully because you never know what your kids are doing when you are not there. You know how you raised them but you cannot be sure they do it when you are not there. The only exception is if you installed a spy chip in them :)

Exactly! No child or parent is perfect. People know what they did when their parents weren't around, yet assume their kids won't do the same.

I wish I knew the answer because the behavior makes me absolutely crazy! As does the talking, yelling and door slamming. We do not even let our girls talk above a whisper when we are going down a hotel corridor, we aleays remind them that people could be sleeping. We also don't let them jump off the bed or run around our room so as to not bother the guests below us. We are trying hard to teach them to think of others.

Oh boy. It's not only bad parenting skills, it is bad daughter skills on my first cruise with my mom...first day at sea.

She was so excited to go out onto the balcony (to let me sleep) left the door open and made fast friends with the kids on the next balcony. :scared1: "What are you doing today? Isn't this beautiful? Do you like the clubs?" blah blah loud talking! STOP! I bet you all on the balcony's that surrounded us, next doors, up and down were :furious: We are talking about 7am. :furious:

I love me my sleep in on sea days. :lovestruc

I had to pull her in, shut the door and explain to her...:mic: Drink coffee. Be quiet. Don't wake everyone up! Not that I meant don't speak...just talk low, respectfully. Once you start entertaining the kids next door... good lord. ;) No disrespect. Later that day, you could see them looking over for my mom. Oh dear.

My apologies on that first day at sea, early in the morning, to our neighbors, or the entire side of that ship.

She stopped doing it :worship: I still tease her about it to this day. :furious:

:woohoo:

Okay, I'm going to come clean… Besides, given the number of times this happens, and the fact that the only people who've posted so far are those bothered by it, I think it's clear those of us who are guilty are lurking quietly.
So the first few days of our cruise, I walked the hall with my four-year-old and didn't really think twice when he ran or spoke loudly. It wasn't until our third day when I heard kids running through the hall that I realized HOW loud it truly was. You can rest assured that after that our rules changed. You have my sincere apologies for the first few days! Honestly, given my insistence in making sure he behaves politely, kindly and respectfully, I can't believe I so completely spaced out on this one...
Again, you have my apologies and can be assured that this will not happen on future cruises. :-)

It's one thing to unintentionally make noise and then realize it later, but another thing to just be downright rude.

We just got off the Magic after 14 wonderful Transatlantic days. Unfortunately, our cruise was tainted by the most incredibly inconsiderate neighbors. Mom, Dad, and two daughters (about 3 and 8). These parents -- no joke -- were ENCOURAGING their kids to jump off the bed, run around, and had LOUD tickle sessions for 2 1/2 hours (from midnight til 2:30)! I could hear everything they said, and the constant "THUD, stomp stomp stomp, HAHAHAHA!" was something no one could possibly think is okay. The dad was like this: "Hey A____, I just wanna know one thing...what are you using to jump right now?...your legs! HAHAHA!" Then the kid would launch off the bed with a giant thump. I was very peeved, but felt even worse for the people below them.

Then the little kid would sleep until 2:30pm and make the stateroom host wait around to clean their room. He was the nicest person ever, and literally cleaned their room last nearly every day. He had to be off the clock by a certain time, and they pushed him to the limit daily. Now *that* is what I call rude. The same family was easily 45-60 min. late every night for dinner. Super lame for the servers, who then had to rush to prepare for the second seating.

We tried to be tolerant and give them the benefit of the doubt (perhaps they didn't realize they were being loud?) My husband even wrote a very short, friendly reminder on a post-it and put it on their door. When the noise got even louder the next night, we finally complained to security, who promptly came up and talked to them (at 12:30 am when their kids were jumping off the bed again). They were more quiet after that (not nearly as quiet as they should be, but at least better than the constant jumping), but the mom had the nerve to give me dirty looks when I saw her around the ship.

My kids aren't perfect, but I certainly try to teach them to be considerate of others (e.g., stand to the side when the elevator door opens, walk to one side so others can pass, close doors quietly, etc.) I just don't get how some people think that just because they paid for a vacation, they can do whatever they want.

That's why we LOVE deck one! The only people on that level are those who are staying there - not too many compared to the other decks :). Some complain of small engine noises (I'm a light sleeper - didn't hear much really).

When delivering FE gifts to other decks, I cringed at the noise. I have two very busy boys but there would be no way that I would let them behave like that! Plus I'm a teacher and have a certain expectation of children's behaviour and what parents should be letting kids get away with.

That would drive me crazy.

Real quick...one time staying at a hotel I was looking out the window and saw a man pack and repack an ice chest. Went on for an hour. I called my hubby over..what is he doing? The wife went in already. Pack. Unpack. Pack. repeat. Water in, water out. The same ice chest, the same water.

Guess who happened to be staying in the room above us. He obviously had that compulsive disorder (?) He stomped from one end of the room to the other. Constant. Sounded like this: bomp bomp bomp bomp bomp (across the room) bomp bomp bomp bomp bomp (back) Repeat. Stopped for 2 minutes. Then back at it. I was going insane. My hubby was mad because I tried to drown it out with the TV. About 11:00 pm I had to go down to the front desk. It was college orientation week end...completely booked. I asked security to come to my room and sit on that lil itty bitty couch and just listen. I got a refund.
I'm sure it wasn't his fault and was not on purpose and was not like kids having a party. It was just bomp bomp bomp, you get it. But at least they should ask for a ground floor room. Everything was booked though, maybe they tried to find a ground floor room. I was happy in the end. Tired, but happy with the comp. Had I not asked security to come to the room to hear for themselves who knows. :confused3 Slept with the TV on and homemade ear plugs out of kleenex. And he was our wake up call the next morning ;)

Getting ready in the morning...out the window, he was walking the parking lot in a fast pace in circles, around and around. I figured his wife sent him out so she could get ready. Aw, poor guy. I knew that I could go home and sleep there. He obviously suffers from this every day.

I think those same folks were our neighbors on the Magic in Jan 2011 on an EC cruise. :):)
The minute dh and I would lay our heads down, the other side of the wall would be thud thud thud with the 2 boys in the other room jumping on the beds. This went on at night, in the morning, during the afternoons.. One afternoon after a Port we thought we would catch a quick nap, and realized the 2 boys were obviously alone in that cabin and they were just having a McFly competition. I was annoyed, dh gave a few whaps to the wall as a warning. My last resort was going to be making a call to guest services because at that point - i had had it.

Also- for those upset at kids ringing door bells - just an fyi - Captn Hook has been known to play ding dong ditch :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I have to agree with you. I won't yell at other people's kids but I will definitely correct them if it effecting my kids (running into them)...Parents these days that act like kids are just kids...I mean yes they are kids, that'd why god gave them parents to teach them how to behave and when and where it is appropriate to run like mad men. Silly parents.

We had a runner on our 7n fantasy cruise, every evening at 11pm this kid would do laps.

I didn't mind, figured it was what he needed to burn the energy. And the stairs... Sorry, we were the parents that raced the stairs. The elevators were sooooooo busy mid ship and 8th floor, and we ate sooooo much every night, we got us and the kids moving by making a game out of it. Obviously, we tried to be polite, and didnt knock down every person we saw, but.... We are runners.

Now I did say something to two chatty girls at the wishes show one night... I don't think they "could" stop talking.. Lol. Parents right there tuning them out, so I gently reminded them twice, that I was trying to enjoy the show... I got a couple dirty looks from the girls, but they settled down.

I blame the parents. I was at the movies yesterday and we were waiting to get into the theatre the movie we were seeing was in. It's one of those big movie complexes with 12 theatres. Tons of people everywhere. There was a birthday party going on in the party room. The Dad took a couple of the boys out into the crowded theatre hallway and started throwing a football back and forth. I'm stuffing my face with popcorn and thinking is this actually happening? He was dressed nice . I told my DD if I get hit I'm dropping to the floor and faking paralysis (law suit). It's a joke (sort of...lol).

Wow, I wish my kids were perfect and well-behaved all the time!

Yes, as parents we tell our kids not to run in the halls and to be quiet.

But, guess what? They are on a Disney Cruise, and they are super excited! All the time. I can't tell you how many times we had to correct them because they are just so excited that they start running down the hall.

We don't let our kids run amuck, but on a Disney Cruise they don't remember not to run sometimes and they're not quiet ALL the time. We remind them so that their behavior doesn't continue. We are doing the best we can.

I fully understand "kids will be kids", having an 11 year old son that was, and never will be, a perfect angel. He can be too loud, has been known to run, and occasionally eats like he is in prison, but overall he is a well mannered child, and we receive numerous compliments on his behavior. On our cruise last year, our stateroom was on deck 8, first "forward" cabin. We were right next to one of the paintings for the Detective Agency Game, and if you would like a lesson in bad parenting, I suggest you hang around those bad boys late into the evening. On one evening, at about 11 PM, there was a Mom and a group of what sounded like 400 elephants in attendance, tromping around and waving their cards in front of the painting several times, laughing and SCREAMING. My husband and son were at a movie, I was packing, but man, after about 20 minutes of that nonsense, I had had enough, went out in the hallway and apparently shot a look of fire at this clueless mom, who had nerve enough to say "Maybe we should leave, it looks like some people are cranky and need to go to sleep."
