It's one thing to unintentionally make noise and then realize it later, but another thing to just be downright rude.
We just got off the Magic after 14 wonderful Transatlantic days. Unfortunately, our cruise was tainted by the most incredibly inconsiderate neighbors. Mom, Dad, and two daughters (about 3 and 8). These parents -- no joke -- were ENCOURAGING their kids to jump off the bed, run around, and had LOUD tickle sessions for 2 1/2 hours (from midnight til 2:30)! I could hear everything they said, and the constant "THUD, stomp stomp stomp, HAHAHAHA!" was something no one could possibly think is okay. The dad was like this: "Hey A____, I just wanna know one thing...what are you using to jump right now?...your legs! HAHAHA!" Then the kid would launch off the bed with a giant thump. I was very peeved, but felt even worse for the people below them.
Then the little kid would sleep until 2:30pm and make the stateroom host wait around to clean their room. He was the nicest person ever, and literally cleaned their room last nearly every day. He had to be off the clock by a certain time, and they pushed him to the limit daily. Now *that* is what I call rude. The same family was easily 45-60 min. late every night for dinner. Super lame for the servers, who then had to rush to prepare for the second seating.
We tried to be tolerant and give them the benefit of the doubt (perhaps they didn't realize they were being loud?) My husband even wrote a very short, friendly reminder on a post-it and put it on their door. When the noise got even louder the next night, we finally complained to security, who promptly came up and talked to them (at 12:30 am when their kids were jumping off the bed again). They were more quiet after that (not nearly as quiet as they should be, but at least better than the constant jumping), but the mom had the nerve to give me dirty looks when I saw her around the ship.
My kids aren't perfect, but I certainly try to teach them to be considerate of others (e.g., stand to the side when the elevator door opens, walk to one side so others can pass, close doors quietly, etc.) I just don't get how some people think that just because they paid for a vacation, they can do whatever they want.
