Oct. 12, 2013 - WONDERful cruise from Galveston

This will be our first Disney Cruise and we are really excited for it! We would love to join in on the FE fun. What do we need to do to be assigned to an FE group?
Here is our information:
Don't have a cabin number yet, just outside guarantee.
DH
DW
DS - 11
DS - 8

Does anyone know about when we will know who is in our group, so we can plan our gifts to fit each family?
Unfortunately, we are not Facebookers, so if we can communicate through this forum or via email, that would be great.
Thanks so much!

Welcome aboard! Most people are on both. If anything comes up on fb I'll try to repost here.

Thanks for keeping us filled in on anything important that comes up on FB. That will be very helpful. We are super excited and can't wait!

I'm not on the Facebook page either. Does anyone have a count on fish extender people/ cabins. I've been trying to keep up but school and work are getting in the way.
Also can anyone recommend a hotel that won't break the bank for 8. I'm so confused about this port and I hear the area around the airport is scary. Has anyone stayed at the Marriott at the airport?
I tried to get a quote from super shuttles but their website keeps asking for a group code?

We booked a room at the Marriott at IAH airport. I would much rather get down to Galveston, but we land late and my girls will be tired so we want to get them to bed. I think it is in the airport.

Have not decided if we will rent a car or take a shuttle down to the port then next morning.

Hotel seekers,

I would suggest reading Trip Advisor reviews online before booking. If there is an Embassy Suites or a Hampton inn, check those out. They come with Breakfast and are usually reasonably priced.

If you decide to book with a third party (Expedia, Hotwire, etc.) remember that you will get a run of the house room. Usually a room that is difficult for the hotel to sell at full price , like smoking rooms or murphy bed rooms. I would suggest calling the hotel first to make sure they will be able to move you to a Double bedroom before you book through a third party.

I work for a major hotel chain and know that these things can cause big issues on special vacations.

Good luck!

Can anyone on the FB page share the links to the portal decor instructions and the Wonder review I posted recently? I think the non-fb friends might enjoy them but since I haven't posted ten times on disboards I can't include photos or links yet. Thanks! Malia

Didn't know if anyone else has seen the letter posted that is now being placed in cabins:

Dear Guests,

We are glad that you have joined us aboard the Disney (Choose Ship)!

As you may be aware, it is important to us to keep our facilities looking their best for all our guests. As part of our commitment to this area of focus, we ask that you do not affix anything to your stateroom door utilizing tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives. We have found that these adhesives damage the finish on our stateroom doors; therefore we ask that you limit door decoration to those of the magnetic variety.

Concurrently, we ask that guests not use over-the-door hanging organizers as they have been found to scratch and/or disfigure stateroom doors and trim.

Guests found with damaged doors are assessed a $100 damage fee per incident to cover the cost of repairs.

Your attention to this matter will greatly assist us in keeping our shipboard environment looking ship-shape. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Guest Services, Deck 3 Mid-ship.

If interested, magnetic door decorations are available for purchase in our merchandise area. For your convenience, magnetic strips are also available at Guest Services.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope you have an enjoyable sailing.

Sincerely,

With this news, you will need to make sure that you have magnets for all your door decorations.

Hmm. Interesting. I might give DCL a call to see if they are definitely referring to the extenders and if so, do they have a recommended alternative. I'm almost finished making mine- I'll be so bummed if they tell me not to use it after all that hard work. I will post any response.

You know, it occurs to me that maybe they mean those hooks that literally go over the door? You know the ones that people hang wreaths on? I bet that's it because those hooks could leave a decent scratch if it doesn't fit perfectly. Okay. I feel better now. Phew!

The over the door is one that hang over the door like organizers. The fish extender hangs off the fish next to the door. We hand ours with decorative flexible wire(it's wrapped in cloth). Some people hand like shoe or jewelry organizers over the door and we hang ours on a clothes hanger then on either the shower curtain or the peg outside the bathroom door

AS long as you use magnets you are all good. Our door was way decorated!! They just don't want you to use other forms of sticking stuff you your door.(Tape or command strips are a no no) Magnets work great no worries!!! Our walls in our state room were even metal on the fantasy. =) I have heard that sometimes magnets and FE have been taken from doors... We heard using a zip tie to keep it on the fish is a good idea. Someone on our last cruise had theirs taken... =(

Time Change:

I have a question, its been bugging me for awhile. On the schedule sheet each day is it on central time and changes as we go thru different time zones or stays on central since we leave from central time zone??? I am worried about time zones when stopping at different ports... Pls someone ease my mind...

Thats a good ??? We sailed out of FL last time, so it was east coast time... it never changed... Bring a water proof watch and ask the crew what time it is & use that. Thats what we did.

They will also put cards in your room advising of any time changes that will occur.

Tips:

We found it useful to bring some inexpensive Disney themed toys for our daughter on the last cruise as well as our own princess outfit. We used the new toys as a way to reward her for a good day by saying Mickey and the gang left them. We would pull one out each night (with a little note from one of the characters she saw that day) when she went to sleep so she could find it in the morning. We also brought our own beach toys that could also be used as bathtub toys. One of my friends used to be a captain's assistant on the wonder. I will post her reply when I get it.

My # 1 tip bring a water proof watch. There are hardly any clocks on board. # 2 do a grocery stop & get beverages for your trip. A Disney flat of water will run you way lots of $$$ we bring a small suitcase empty and fill it with water & stuff.

On the first cruise I lost my SD card with some my videos and photos of day 1 and pirate night. When I got home I, I reached out to the Facebook group and folks shared their photos. My advice is to buy a large capacity SD card for your camera so that you never have to take it out of the camera until you get home. Sharing photos was fun. We saw ourselves in other members videos and photos.

Also, someone suggested somewhere else to put a file on your SD card with your contact information saying something like , "You can keep the card but please email me my photos." and maybe include in it that you could provide a small reward.

Just wondering if anyone else is planning on running the Castaway Cay 5k? We will be on the Disney Wonder for the Oct 12th-7 night from Galveston. I did the color run a few weeks ago and it was so much fun. I am NO avid runner. I finished in 44 min. I am setting a goal for 35-40min on Castaway Cay. Anyone else?

I'm hoping to do this. I don't run at all. But I have started walking and hopefully by October I will be running.:woohoo:

I hadn't heard anything about it. Where can I get more information? Will it all be on the sand or other parts of the island? Morning?

Thanks for the information.

My sister and I will be participating in the 5k. We do local 5ks I'm slow about 50 mins and Annette waits for me at the end she usually about 10 mins faster. She bet me I couldn't lose a lot of weight before the cruise so I should be much faster. I get a cabana if I do. The 5k is done as soon as we dock and its on the paved paths

Thanks. I am going to start preparing. I've done two half marathons, but that has been a couple of years. I have slacked off of the walking and running, so it is time to gear up!
I appreciate the information.

Hello all!

We will be joining you on this cruise. This is our 6th DCL Cruise and will be our 4th time on the Wonder. We have done 4 night Bahama (Magic), 7 night WC (Magic) 7 night NYE EC (Wonder), 7 night MR (Wonder), 7 night Alaska (Wonder)

We are from Arizona, so now figuring out to get to TX...

Not sure if we will join FE, but I am sure DD will talk us into it. Is there a cut off date to sign up.

Also DD is looking for other girls her age who will be in the Edge.

I will go back to look for the FB group contact name, but would like to join that as well.

Some of my FE gifts are going to take a bit of work. Since there is not anything set up yet, (that I can tell) I'm going to go ahead and start making mine for 6. If I make to many, I could probably just sneak the extras into some I think have cute decorations, but at the same time make sure I have enough materials to make extras if needed.
