2013 Beach and Yacht Club FAQ: Don't Post Here! New Thread Now Open

Glad you had a wonderful trip! Post Disney Depression is a bummer, I hate that part of the Disney trip cycle especially because we will not be returning as frequently as we used to. May I ask, did you make a room request for that location and, if so, what did you request specifically? Just curious. :)

No, we decided to just roll the dice, and that was a little pixie dust. It was also a handicapped accessible room, so the bathroom was huge. Not sure why we ended up there.

I joined this thread to learn about the BC and I was super impressed with how friendly everyone was and what a positive experience everyone was having. Lately it has become very negative about school districts. Not all of us educators are out to get people. Most of us are there because we love kids.

Now, can we resume BC/YC info and stories? Thank you.

Just back from a week at YC, and it was wonderful! We booked garden view, and our room overlooked the walkway from the back of the lobby. So, we ended up having a lovely view of SAB in front and the boat launch down to the right. The balcony was a great place to watch the fireworks portion of Illuminations. We ate at B&C (the No Way Jose was well worth the calories!), Hurricane Hanna's, and Cape May for breakfast- the characters were great, and the food was very good. We only made it to SAB one afternoon, but the kids loved it. We also stumbled upon the campfire and roasted marshmallows one night (someone asked about the time, I think it was about 6:30). Hopefully I can find time to post a trip report, but it may be awhile- reality is setting in hard now that we're back. Oh well, guess that means I need to plan the next trip!

Welcome back..........even though I know you would rather still be there!!!

Hi there!

I am new to this forum so please be gentle with me!

We are returning to Disney this August; the previous 3 times we have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, this time we have booked the Beach Club.

We have booked a Garden View room, 2 questions:-

1. Can someone recommend the best room location to request?

2. Is it worth paying extra to upgrade to a Lagoon / Pool view room?

Many thanks for all your help.

Jonathan

Hello BC/YC Lovers!!!!!

Just popping in from our wonderful room at YC!!! :goodvibes

I plan on doing a trip report when I'm back, but since we still have 7 days left I wanted to do a quickie update.

Our room is very nice! We booked SV CL and I'm not sure if what we ended up with is just a really good GV or in fact a water view but it's beautiful!!!

Here's our view:

Oh! And we were Family of the Day!

And the beers in the CL lounge are Heineken, Bud Light, Sam Summer, and Yeungling.

We do think the YC is a beautiful resort!!

More to come later!

Hi Jonathan-

:welcome: to the DIS and to this thread.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for August.

:cool1:

The answers to your questions depend a lot on what is important for your family.

As far as a room request- one thing that is important to know is that not all rooms at the Beach Club have full balconies. About 50% of the rooms have standing only balconies- so if this is important to you, make sure you add this request to your reservation.

As far as a room location- do you want to be close to the lobby/transportation/pool? Would you prefer to be closer to EPCOT? First floor or something higher? These are all personal preferences that can differ for each person.

Same on the upgrade to waterview. Do you spend a lot of time in your room or are you mostly at the parks? For me, the view from the room is not all that important, so I wouldn't do the upgrade. There are others here who have different opinions.

I am providing the links to a couple of posts on Page 1. This may be helpful as you are making decisions. There are further links that give some examples of the views from the different room categories.

I was enjoying reading other people's experiences b/c my DD13 is missing 6 days next month and the school rule is only 5 days excused. Good to know what other schools/districts rules are to compare. In our case, she won't be over the 10 total days she can miss for the year, so I am not going to change my plans.

Not really a "resort" question, but since you guys know everything......Where in the World can you get frappacino's? My husband likes to get them everyday we are on vacation. I know where you can get them at Disneyland and California Adventure but where can we get them at WDW?

Jan

:BUMP:

Not sure of the answer to this, but here are a couple of places to check into/try:

Kusafari Bakery- AK
Andapour Tea Company- AK
Writers Stop- HS, maybe Starring Rolls

EP-??? French Bakery, open at 9 am

MK- sore subject, but does anyone know when the Starbucks is slated to replace the Main Street Bakery?

Does the BW bakery offer anything like this?

:surfweb:

Have not been here for a LONG TIME and my trip is coming up soon - June 17th!!

1. Teena - read your post on the 6 months clear. So happy for you. I think about you so often and will certainly stop by to see you this summer. Miss chatting with you on here!

2. Yc Rooms. I am the resident expert on YC CLUB LEVEL however no club this summer. I know I am slumming it!:rotfl: I can recall from the 5th floor the only room I ever stayed in there was the gazebo view. Help me expand my horizons at YC Garden View Room. I am going blank as to what other views are there in garden that might offer a lagoon sideways glimpse - guess it is just the gazebo view or ????

3. Yachtsman for dinner...yeah or nay and/or has Cape May kept the BBQ ribs and shrimp? Bet Teena knows this:thumbsup2

4. Have I missed anything in the last several months in regards to anything on yc/bc operations? Any changes etc that I should know about? I have been gone about 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks! melissa

Teena is off on a cruise for the next few days.

I think that some of the rooms overlooking the back entrance to the YC (lakeside) may also be GV.

I believe Teena (and others) have reported that the ribs are no longer on the menu at Cape May. Fried shrimp is offered a couple of times a week. Not sure about the shrimp cocktail.

If you could choose to stay CL at YC or BC which would you choose and why?

I have only stayed BC CL. My understanding is that it is the same food offerings at both. The lounge at YC is a little larger, I believe, and you also have the advantage of full balconies at the YC.

Hi everyone:wave2: I've read every page of this thread and feel like I know you all now! I've long lurked on these boards and am happy to announce my family is joining your ranks and would love to be added to the Be Our Guest list:

We are doing a split stay WL 10/25-10/30 and BC 10/30-11/4:cool1:

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list.

Can someone tell me which golf course would be the easiest to get to from BC using WDW transportation. If needed, could always do a cab. If he cabs it, which course should DH play?

BUMP!

As a DVC member, I can see the order form on the DVC website in case I want to order from the Marketplace and have the stuff brought up to my room. I believe the prices are the same as if I purchase the stuff myself in the marketplace. Here are the prices from the order form:

1 pint of strawberries: $9.99
1 pint of blueberries: $8.99
1 pint of raspberries: $9.99

Thanks so much for taking the time to share those prices. Do you mind if I add this to the Marketplace thread? We have some prices already listed there, but they may be a year and a half or couple of years old.

At those prices for the berries, I won't be making up my own batch of sangria!

It is official, DH and I just booked for 5/24-5/28 YC Garden view! So excited there were passholder discount rooms left on the holiday weekend. We mainly plan on doing DHS and Epcot. Dh is excited about Star Wars Weekend. Can't wait to sit on the balcony with a Boardwalk Bakery pastry and coffee.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:woohoo:

Recently stayed here in the Admiral's suite, was fantastic.

:welcome: to the DIS and this thread!

Sounds incredible!

Hello BC/YC Lovers!!!!!

More to come later!

Thanks for checking in with us and answering some recent questions!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

Do the pool hours change for each season? We are going in June and wondering how late it will be open.

SO excited to have just booked at Beach Club...and Club level this time! Our goal is try every Disney resort ....but hands down our favorite is the Beach Club! I am a nanny for some close friends of mine, who have 8 kids....several years ago the youngest and I started an (awesome) Disney trip tradition. Well, it has been Chris' dream to have mom and dad come too- and his only other brother at home (everyone has grown up!) ....we are making this happen! And Chris is taking an active role in the planning - his suggestion for Club level! I am in---and hoping everything turns out great! And because it is Disney....the odds are pretty good! :)

One step closer to making our summer BC trip a reality... Looking at the flights, and coordinating with my DD arriving from visiting my sister out west, I think that it is likely that we will be arriving very late at night on our first night there. SO, I think it is sensible to stay at Pop the first night and let Bell Services transfer our luggage. If we do manage CL, that will save us about $500, which I think is well worth the annoyance of not being able to unpack upon arrival. I know a lot of you guys have done this (Ninja Mom?) - was it worth it?

Oh! And we were Family of the Day!

We always book a waterview room. last year we were in the first room down that same hallway, actually almost across from the CM desks, kind of behind the elevators. Either we had a downgrade or you have an upgrade to waterview! Congrats!! :goodvibes

What happens when you're family of the day? Several years ago we were heading out the lobby door to wait for a bus to MK, we were stopped by 2 CMs & asked if we would be the family of the day. It was just DH & myself. They took our picture with 1 of the CMs, then the 2 of them drove us to MK in a private van. :thumbsup2 They said we'd get a copy of the picture in our room the next day. Never got it, asked the club level CMs who checked into it & said there had been a problem with the camera. No other "perks" that we got. Not complaining at all, it was nice to get the ride to MK & we always enjoy chatting with CMs. I wondered if they later found a better "family of the day", with lots of kids or something & gave them the picture & extra perks! :rotfl2:

Enjoy the rest of your stay!! :goodvibes

My youngest DS has an odd question that I told him I would find out the answer to. I did try looking on AllEars, but they don't have it listed in the Beach Club Marketplace menu. We check in to the BC in 140 days from today, and I told my youngest DS that this morning as we were waiting for his school bus. He said that the one thing he is going to miss about the Pop (we stay at the Pop Century on our last trip) was how easy it was to get hot chocolate. I assume they would have hot chocolate at the Beach Club Marketplace, but I need to be sure. If they don't, I'll just pack some and make it in our room for him.

Good morning everyone, 17 days until we enjoy BC for the first time. I have a question for anyone who has requested a pack n play. Is it really a pack n play or a crib? I noticed in a picture the crib and wondered if that is what we would get.

I posted this yesterday but I never seem to get any responses...so I'll try again:

Just about a month left until our YC trip! I'm sure this has been asked before, but what kind of room request should I make for Garden View (non CL)? I would love to have a view of the boardwalk or EPCOT, but are all these views considered Lagoon/Water?

Two of the views you can get with YC GV are the wedding gazebo view and the courtyard view of the back entrance (lakeside) of the YC. I'm not sure if there are any other YC GV rooms elsewhere in the resort.

The back entrance courtyard GV rooms may have some peek-a-boo glimpses of the lake or BW, but I'm not positive. I'm not sure that there are any YC GV rooms that have a view of EP.

Thanks for the information. This is always a "must have" for my DH so I guess that will be our daily quest. Is a frappacino something that they serve on site (BC) anywhere??? I think I read that the MK Starbucks won't open until after our trip. They opened at full Starbucks at California Adventure last June. It is has the regular Starbucks menu and is very popular with the guests. They are in the process of converting a shop on Main Street in Disneyland to a Starbucks, too.

I'm not positive, but I thought there was a Hot Chocolate machine where the coffee / fountain drink machines are??

We didn't drink any, so I may be totally crazy................(don't answer that!)
