Chapter 1: The Culinary Class of a Road Trip During Which NO Fast Food was Consumed.

August 14th & 15th, 2012

Hey y'all! Thank you so much to everyone joining in for this yummy adventure! And now, on with the NOMS!

The day before Disney, I laid outside for a bit, ran some errands, and packed. I also ate my Mickey rice krispie that I had gotten a few weeks ago and it was so magical and delicious. I was celebrating that tomorrow was DISNEY DAY!

img5561l.jpg

For those of you who are unfamiliar with how these annual family trips to Disney in the summer work for us, we drive. It's about 20 hours, so we were up bright and early to hit the road. Actually, it was still dark. Whatever.

After about an hour and a half of driving, we stopped at a Panera for some breakfast.

Cinnamon crunch bagel, anyone?

img5632r.jpg

Sarah is OBSESSED with those.

I went the route of an asiago cheese bagel and an orange juice. Yum! That really hit the spot.

img5633jq.jpg

Mom and Scott went with breakfast power sandwiches, but they must have gobbled them up before I got a pic!

We hit the road again, but not before picking up sandwiches to go for later! We put them in a cooler we had in the car to stay cold.

When it got to be lunchtime, we stopped at a rest stop in West Virginia and enjoyed them outside at a picnic table. It was such a nice day!

Here is my turkey avocado BLT:
img5634cq.jpg

YUM. This is my favorite sandwich from Panera. The salad version of it is delicious as well. The flavors are so wonderful and I LOVE avocado. I would eat guacamole with a spoon if it were socially acceptable.

After lunch, we drove on some more and stopped at another rest stop for some Starbucks. Mom and I are coffee snobs so it was necessary to snatch up the opportunity. We are SO excited that Starbucks is coming to WDW! Frappuccinos on Main Street!? Does it GET any better??

We also grabbed some Fiji water while we there. It was the size of Sarah's head!

img5639v.jpg

We hit the road once again and then stopped at a Bob Evans in North Carolina for dinner.

I love the bread and biscuits thing.

img5640e.jpg

I think we all got the chicken pot pie, because everyone in my family loves it so much! We're from up North, so we love to indulge in southern foods when we can. Bring on the biscuits, gravy, sweet tea and all forms of pie! I just love the south. It's so fab.

img5641sp.jpg

MMMMMMMMM so good.

After dinner we finished up our last leg of that day's journey and got in realllyyyy late to our Best Western in Georgia for the night. I was one tired Frump:

img56512.jpg

-------------------------------------------------------

The next morning, I woke up around 7, got up and got ready, and then we all headed down to have some continental complimentary breakfast. I had one of my vacation-only childhood foods, Fruit Loops!

img5656m.jpg

Sarah went with some make-your-own miniature waffles. She loved them.

img5657e.jpg

We went back to the room, got all our stuff, and we were ready to get going!

Scott driving along:

Pretty soon we were seeing Disney billboards! The excitement was BUILDING.

Then, at around noon, this happened:
dsc09795z.jpg

WOOHOO! I AM HOME. OH SWEET HAPPY DAY. Sarah and I were probably having convulsions of excitement at this point. We drove by POP and AoA and CBR and such, then debated going straight to DTD to eat or going to Kidani first. We ultimately decided on Kidani and headed there!

Pretty soon we had arrived at Kidani Village!

dsc09807t.jpg

Kidani is our DVC home, but this was actually our first time staying here since we joined the previous year. I was so excited!!

dsc09808vr.jpg

dsc09813i.jpg

Gorgeous. I'm sold.

dsc09816d.jpg

Mom and I worked on check-in while Scott helped the bellhop unload our luggage and then went to park the car. One really awesome thing about Kidani is the semi-underground parking garages. Really nice for rain, keeping the car cool, and convenience. We loved that!

The windows overlooking the savanna:

dsc09818s.jpg

So perfect.

We grabbed our refillable mugs from the gift shop and filled them up!

Up next- checking out the villa/mini resort photo tour!

Chapter 2: Finally I'm HOME!

August 15th, 2012

Pretty soon everything was taken care of, so we went up to check out our room!

dsc09873es.jpg

We were on the trail to the left of the lobby if you're facing the windows, on the top floor!

Here's our studio!

dscn1658fj.jpg

dsc09849ph.jpg

Table & chairs and TV, with Stacey on of COURSE!

Sarah's and my pull-out couch:

Towel Mickey!

Bathroom:
dsc09826xd.jpg

The cool thing about the bathroom was the setup. There was a door into the shower/sink area, and then another one into where the toilet was. This made all of us getting ready in the morning a lot easier.

Our balcony:

dsc09835m.jpg

We had booked a standard view, which I was a little leery about, but it ended up being great! We could see the pool from our balcony, which was great for checking out the crowd situation.

Overall, our Kidani studio was PERFECT. Not far from the elevator, REALLY spacious, TONS of storage for clothes and such, and the setup is really nice. I loved it!

Chillin' on my Kidani Kouch:
img5679ja.jpg

Mom and Scott had to go to Walgreens to pick up a prescription for her vertigo, so Sarah and I stayed behind and went exploring!

First, we headed downstairs and onto the patio off the lobby to watch the animals.

dsc09852zy.jpg

dsc09854.JPG

dsc09856p.jpg

It's so beautiful out there! The gorgeous rocking chairs and the incredible views. It's just so unique. You really forget that you're in Florida, or even the States for that matter!

dsc09857n.jpg

RESORT RUGS. SO PERF.

dsc09864i.jpg

Gorgeous lobby is gorgeous.

Next, we went outside to the actual savanna-viewing area with the fireplace and such. At night, the have a fire here and you can watch the animals with night-vision goggles. It's SO cool.

dsc09866g.jpg

You can see the patio that we were on before with the railing:
dsc09868e.jpg

We went inside after a bit and headed back up to the room. We watched some Stacey, unpacked a bit, and then Mom and Scott got back.

Off to Downtown Disney!

dscn1663s.jpg

I LOVE DISNEY BUSES.

dscn1664j.jpg

YAY!

dsc09874q.jpg

Of course, our first Disney meal just HAD to be at our favorite CS place in all of WDW:

dsc09876y.jpg

Wolfgang Puck Express!

I love everything about that place. The food, the bright and sunny seating, the music, the servers...it's all just great.

We ordered and got a nice table near a window.

Happy Mum:

Happy parents:
dsc09878lc.jpg

Pretty soon, our totally GORGEOUS server from Munich was bringing us our food. Stay tuned!

The Road Trip begins!!!! To the ultimate destination of course! :) Love seeing that sign.

I love road trip food... for some reason it's just better. Perhaps its the excitement of the destination. :upsidedow

I think I'm missing out because I've only had sandwiches and soup at Panera -not breakfast. That cinnamon crunch bagel looks pretty good.

Kidani is so beautiful. GET OUT! They have night vision goggles?? That is awesome. Everything about AKL is just so awesome. Love it!

WPE is a great way to start Disney Dining!! :thumbsup2
