Our little thread of BIG Resort Changes~2013 Spring RC installment

Ok, so...I did some Disney math... :-) For about $200 more we could do 3 nights AKL CL then 3 nights CR (in the deluxe room). Pay OOP for dining the first 3 days and get tickets from Undercover Tourist. 2nd half would be deluxe dining and 1 day ticket (to get the dining). That's the half when we'd do the signature dining, etc. Tell me I'm completely crazy to even consider it!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards
Does your $200 include your estimated OOP for the dining at the front end? $200 doesn't seem like much more to pay. But would you want to mess with the two different plans? I am assuming you would bring the 1 day tickets home with you?

I'm so sorry y'all. I got to this site as soon as I could to let y'all know that we're ok. The DH had me doing an operation in game and wouldn't let me get away from it.

Thank you for thinking of us, but we are about 1 1/2 hours away from West. A girl I grew up with is living in Whitney (about 22 miles away from West). Her family was on her back porch when the explosion happened, it knocked the French doors to the back porch open. Her DH left with the Whitney first responded.

When we drove to San Antonio, we drove right through West.
So glad you are safe!
Tonight we will be going to sleep at the Yacht Club!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

We've got a long, and probably annoying day of travel ahead of us, but in the end, it will be worth it!!!!

DD8 is going to school until 11-ish so that she can take her tests for this week and then the limo picks us up at 12:30!!

Our flight isn't until 5:20 pm but it's an hour into Boston and with extra security the POTUS visit, better safe than sorry for leaving early....and we will have time to have a nice sit down meal at the airport. :goodvibes

Lots of running around to do this morning.....WAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!! :hyper:
:cheer2: Have fun!!!!

Lacey Considering you might not arrive to the resort until 8:30, it will not allow you much time to enjoy the lounge offerings. If it were me I wouldn't do it

I wondered if we would miss the evening apps. I guess we would. I think you are right - we would pay a lot of a couple of drinks and breakfast! Still thinking I might book a night at an MK resort though. We have never done one before!

Since somone mentioned summer AP rates....not mentioning names :rolleyes1 AND a nervous Nellie DH with all the badness and Homeland Security warnings locally......ahem...time for a

Ticker change!!!!!! Double digits BABY:dance3:

Morning all!

Wookie, so grateful you are okay

Tonight we will be going to sleep at the Yacht Club!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

:woohoo: MM, have a fabulous time!! :cool1:

Sounds like a great few days! Shopping and eating are always good, especially with family :goodvibes

We did! I got spoiled with not having to cook.

Hey hey Janet

Hi Sheila!! :goodvibes

13 more days and then I can begin making my ADRs

:yay:

Paid in full dance!!!

:dance3::banana::woohoo:

Dancing with you!! :dance3:

I am tired, I am cranky, Steven has standardized tests this week and finally lost it in school, so I am trying to focus on my happy place.

As I said before there are so many variables to the if and how we do Disney next year, so I am trying not to get hung up on it, but it is so hard not to.

I know BLT is pushing it, especially as DH did not get a Christmas bonus this past year (the whole thing is still a mess with the selling of the company) and we don't know if he will next year. That is really our play money, so it sucks not having it.

DH asked why we cant just stay at CR if I feel the need to stay on property, but I honestly think the kitchen will help us tremendously. I also really like the idea of having a separate bedroom and all the extra space. I know having a suite when we cruised made a huge difference (why wouldn't it )

I am also questioning February. I know we had a few days that were very busy with cheerleaders and BTGs. And the weather can be very iffy. But it is value season, low crowds for the most part, and works for DH and the kids (before all the standardized testing starts).

I also wonder if I should really be pulling the kids out of school for a week. Next year will be 3rd and 5th grade, so I know I am teetering on the irresponsible side to pull them for an entire week.

Then there is the whole issue of will the kids get bored with Disney for a week. DH only goes to Disney because of how much the kids enjoy it, so if they don't, I will feel like I had him take a week out of work and spend thousands of dollars for nothing.

WOW, my happy place is causing me a lot of stress right now :lmao:

Any thoughts....or tell me it is just too far away and to let it go for now and focus on something else.

:grouphug:
Melissa

Melissa, don't stress about it now... it's quite a while off...Just a few thoughts...have you considered going less than a week? Kind of what you did this year with the Wed-Sun, so the kids do not lose as many days and you won't have to be as concerned with them getting bored. And if you want BLT stick with it...all the things you said are good reasons for it. If you keep the week, plan a side trip on the way back home, to mix it up a bit.:goodvibes

I was on quickly this morning while getting the kids ready for school so I am sure I have missed a bit since then ;)

Jeanette - wait, so no May trip :confused3 I think your Poly/Portofino split is perfect

Lacey - I have read a few reports of people staying at a hotel by the airport the night they arrive and then taking ME over the next morning to save money. Would that be an option? Or would you rather just get on property?

Janet - you are right, I definitely don't need to stress now about a trip that is 10 months away (if it happens). We were originally going to pull them for a week for a cruise or an all inclusive, so I don't know why I have a hard doing it for Disney, I guess because it is only 3 hours away. I think the 5 days worked last year because we had been there 3 times within the past few months. I just looked at the school calendar for next year and spring week is mid-March and mid month does not work for DH, so that is out. I will just leave it as it for now and be okay with it as it stands.

Wookie - OH HELL NO!!! I HATE SNAKES!! I would have killed DH! I dont care if it is Blue Man Group tix or whatever you decide, but DH NEEDS to pay for his actions

Koh - not sure if you saw my ramblings about the DP and AKL/CR this morning. Oh and to answer your questions from last night, I wont rent points because you get locked in with no cancellation or modification policies. I am not willing to risk losing all that money if something happens and we cant go. I know with a room only cash reservation at BLT, I have a 5 day cancellation window and that makes me feel MUCH better ::yes:: As for the kitchen, even though Disney does such a good job with gluten free options we found mornings tough in Feb. We either sat down and ate at The Wave or had Babycakes donuts that we picked up the night before. I think that the kitchen would allow me to make breakfast in the room while everyone is getting ready and also for some lunches or light dinners.

Dani - Paid In Full Dancing for you :dance3:

My little boy is giving me snuggles right now :goodvibes I picked him early today so he could decompress and destress after the state standardized testing. He was so wound up and upset yesterday I decided he just didnt need to go back to class afterwards today. He is all smiles and a very happy boy :cloud9:

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi RCers: No happy weekend to report here. We didn't go to WDW. It was a terrible weekend. Long story short I should have know better than to plan mom's birthday trip so close to when DH & I were out of town last week. My mom has severe depression and severe anxiety. She has been doing very well the past few months (all things relative), and I got complacent and just didn't think it through. Well, she crashed big-time while we were away. Getting her to do anything is always very difficult, but she always rebounds and enjoys herself once she gets to where she is going. We got her all packed Friday to avoid additional stress. And then Saturday morning, before we arrived at her house to pick her up, she whipped herself into such a frenzy that she landed herself in the hospital. Since it was a weekend, she wasn't really looked at by the docs til Monday. They did all the routine tests and she was released Wednesday and is fine.

This trip was a big deal for mom and she was so excited to go: Lagoon View CL ADA room so she could enjoy Wishes from the lounge or from the room, her choice. She couldn't wait to see the progress of the new Fantasyland since her last visit. And she wanted to try a Holiday Sandwich from Earl of Sandwich that she's heard so much about.

So as for the ressie, I was in a haze Sat a.m. and rebooked just so as to not lose our money. The CM said, "I have that room open July 20." So I just took it. :guilty: I wasn't thinking. I am going to need to re-visit that ressie as I don't know if it is the best time to go... duh, we are going to OKW just a few days later. :scared: And it is definitely too hot for Mom then. In hindsight, DH and I just should have changed to a non-ADA CL room and gone ourselves, as my cousin was there at the same time for F&G. But I was just too upset.

Sorry for the long spiel. :headache: I don't even know why I am putting it out here. I guess I am desperately afraid that this was her last "trip" EVER to WDW (and all of the unsaid that goes along with it) and I am just a mess.

Wait, isn't the stupendous Magic there now or going soon, too?:banana::banana:
I'll take stupendous any day. Thanks Miss, I really needed that.

Gramma Sheila you can SO come with us!!!!!I'm serious..take the train to jersey we will grab ya!!!

Lacey - I think my $200 does include OOP dining for the first half. I'll have to look back at all my scribbles. ;-)

Melissa - it does seem to be a pain to try to keep track of different tickets and dining plans, etc. I priced it out with tickets included (for entire trip) but no dining. And it's like $3400 plus OOP dining (about $1000 less than what our pkg costs now) for the split.

We already have our first 2 nights at Sea World offsite hotel. 3 nights at AKL CL, then 3 nights at CR...too much moving?

Magic  I am sorry..dealing with mom must be tough..worry frustrated sad love...all at once right ??

Magic - big hugs!! So sorry you had to cancel the trip...you may get her back there yet though. Don't give up hope! :-)

What new foody plan are you referring to? I think I'm getting lost in my own mental RCing!! :-)

He should especially since this isn't the first time he's teased me with a live snake. When we were walking last year to prepare for walking at WDW, we found a like 6 inch grass snake on the road. He kept chasing it toward me.

My little boy is giving me snuggles right now :goodvibes I picked him early today so he could decompress and destress after the state standardized testing. He was so wound up and upset yesterday I decided he just didnt need to go back to class afterwards today. He is all smiles and a very happy boy :cloud9:

Melissa

Enjoy your snuggles. I don't blame you, I would have picked my boys up as well.

Well I am thinking of changing one of our ADRs. I have Cape May Cafe on our AK day. I originally wanted to book CMC because I thought we would eat there before heading to MNSSHP, but they opened later than I wanted to eat. I wanted to be on our way to the party by 4, and they are not opened for dinner by then. I am wondering if I should change it to something else. I thought about Boma (because we have never been in AKL), but JM can be a really picky eater. Then I thought about eating at Big River Grille, because the DH and I would both love to explore the Boardwalk at night. Then I thought that may be a good night to get over to DTD and eat at Ragland Road (the DH and I love Sheppard's Pie and bread pudding), which is another place I have wanted to try. Anyone have any experience with dinner at Cape May Cafe?

Our options are...
1. Keep the Cape May Cafe ADR
2. Change the ADR to Boma
3. Change the ADR to Big River Grille and explore the Boardwalk after dinner
4. Change the ADR to Ragland Road

What do y'all think I should do.

Magic - I am so sorry to hear about your mom :( I cant even imagine the toll it takes on you. Mental illness is so hard on families  I would just postpone the July res again to the fall. WDW is so good about that, we have had to move resies a few times.

Jeanette - I guess it is a good thing you didn't spill the beans to the girls ::yes:: Good luck to HRH tomorrow, I know all those tests are not fun :sad2: My brother had horrible migraines as a child and it turned out he was sensitive to soy and red meat, once my mom cleared those out of his diet the migraines went away. And now as an adult he eats those things without a problem :confused3

Koh - I forgot you were staying off prop for Sea World. I wouldn't want to move again once you are at WDW, but that is me.

Wookie - I cant really help you on the ADR's. We have eaten at Cape May for dinner twice. I have thoroughly enjoyed it both times but DH and DS both have had issues with sensory things, noise, smells, etc. We havent eaten at any of the other places you mentioned, although I keep saying I want to try Big River Grille.

Magic, So difficult and emotionally draining for you to see your Mom this way... perhaps plan for the fall when the temps are a bit lower? And maybe do something fun and more local in the interim with Mom?

(and to answer your BBQ question....of course we did!... some southern style variety in the Reading Market Terminal...finger lickin' good!! :thumbsup2)

Pas, congrats on your most recent RC :) Seems like a win-win for the Pas clan!! :thumbsup2

Melissa, what a great way to spend part of the day, snuggling with Steven! Enjoy!

Wookie, I must of blocked the Snake story out of my brain 'cause I HATE snakes!! :scared1: For starters, he owes you Deluxe Dining and more for your Sept trip... although it's not going to be enough ... is there any sneaky thing you can do with his gaming??? :teeth:

Thank you

Wookie, we eaten at CMC twice and have enjoyed it. We also liked Boma but if you are concerned about JM, then don't.

I like the Ragland Road idea....my sis ate there last year and really liked it. and there is nightly entertainment as well. And this would be a great time to fit in going to DTD if you haven't already on the trip. :goodvibes

Magic: So so sorry to hear about what your mom is going through. Sending huge hugs.

Melissa: How nice to have some snuggle time with your DS, what a nice mommy you are to let him have some decompress time. Standardized testing is coming at the end of May here too. DD8 is a little nervous as well.

Wookie: What a snake story!!:faint: Still feel so badly for the stories coming out of West. So awful. About Boma, DH and I were loving it, but DD8 got so nauseous from all the smells, that we actually had to leave before having dessert!! :sad2:

Pas: YAY!! What a good way to make everyone happy! And a discount doesn't hurt right??:p

Well my middle DD is 7 now!! Crazy to think back to today seven years ago. I was sitting here just giving lunch to oldest DD in her highchair (did we ever really just have one child???) :upsidedowand had a few cramps....little did I know my munchkin was on her way! After a short 4 hour labor that really really hurt.:crazy2:...out she came but not breathing as she had the cord around her neck. They also had to suction her right away as she had pooped while still in my belly. It was a little scary but she was a-okay, thank god. Ah....how time flies. pixiedust:

Waving hi to Janet, Koh, Shelia, Miss, Linda and everyone else!:wave2:
