May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Am I the only one noticing prices going up? Is this common 2 months out? Will they go down again? I made a reservation but I'm hoping for another drop so I can upgrade.

I noticed that today as well. I was checking on our reservation for the gazillionth time and it went up.

No, I noticed it too. Just a couple of nights ago I got a midsize from Alamo for eleven days May 10th-20th for $214.70 using the Insiders code, the Costco ID, and the Visa coupon AD2338FDF. Tonight using those same codes for the same midsize the price is up to $522.65, so a $307.95 increase in just two days.:crazy2::scared: Sure glad I booked when I did. I'm hoping it will still come down a little from what I booked it for, but can live with the $214.70.

Dollar's rates went up also. Glad I snagged a "city special" last week.

I have been watching the rates and saw Enterprise went down quite a bit today. We will be there May 11th-14th and I was able to reserve a full size for $23.00 a day. I believe it was up in the $60 range as of the first part of this week.

We booked Enterprise (through Costco) early last week when prices for that one company dropped to hundreds of dollars less than everyone else. Dollar's also dropped into that range midweek last week. But since then, everything is back up into the stratosphere. :scared1: I'm expecting to not see a big change in prices for another month or so.

Edited to add: We got a five-day rental through Enterpise for $148 for a full-size car. Not the best deal I've ever seen, but it's a price we're comfortable paying if we have to.

I agree, I don't think we'll see too many drops until after Easter, but I hope I'm wrong. We managed a full size with Alamo for $139 for an 8 day rental, but need a minivan for the second half of the trip. I prefer National, and am on the fence about using the KLM code. There was a slight drop with National the past couple of days, but still way too high for my blood.

It's supply & demand, they are constantly adjusting prices....same thing the airlines do.
If they feel they have too many cars at a given point, they will lower rates. Usually this will increase bookings and they increase rates again. If bookings don't pick up like they expect...that's when you see rates remain low or go lower.

I just used a coupon code on L&M (ez car rental) and got a mid size Suv for just under $300 for may 11-20. If you like their FB page, you save another 3%. Coupon was B570E. That was better than the other reservation I had with Alamo by $40, so let's hope they keep going down!

I am having trouble finding a good deal for my dates 5/4 thru 5/11. Picking up at 10am on the 4th and dropping off at 3pm on the 11th at MCO. Last year I got a full size thru Alamo for 8 days under $100 total. Hopefully something similar to that will be found.
Thanks for any help.

I priced a full size with Dollar for you as listed above for $121.99 (including taxes). That is with Dollar's "City Special"

Why aren't the dollar city specials coming up for me? Do you have to do something special?

I can get a Full size thru Dollar on their website for 83.78 all in - 3 days May 10-13. Slightly better than someone posted about a week ago.

I am an Alamo National girl, but won't be at their current prices!

Type in your dates and pickup locations don't put any discount codes in or choose any specific type of car. Hit enter to see regular rate, when the regular rate comes up, you will see a "City Specials" tab to click on. Click City Specials and you will see discounted rates. This may not be available in all locations, but is is currently showing for MCO and SFB locations.

I should also mention that the City Special rates change frequently. I've cancelled and rebooked about 4 times as the rates were going down.

Weird - I just tried this but no City Specials show up for MCO for my dates :confused3

I have signed up for the forum to thank so much for the news on the price, and for the explanation on how the City Specials work. ~$160 for a full size car 5/22 morning to 5/28 night. Now just sit and wait for either Alamo to drop their price (and use their kiosk), or for Dollar to go even lower.

Thanks for the assist:yay: I had booked earlier with Enterprise and got a better rate, bu tI'll keep checking back here, now that I know how to do it!

I was able to get $105 / week for a full size at Dollar with the 'City deals' (start May 4th). Anybody know what Dollar charges (if any) for 1 additional driver (spouse)? I'm picking it up from the Orlando airport location.

Great thread!

That's an awesome rate! Hope they offer that at SFB soon! Looks like its only at MCO for now... Not sure what the rate for second driver is.
