Catching on to this thread, too! So sad to see the other one shut down.... but looking forward to a new year of running Disney!

Hey, rDv's (runDisney virgins) here's the recap of this year's race, featuring our own lovely longhorns and saysay! Seriously, seriously picture heavy. Because, really, that's why we do this. After looking at all my pictures, DH said, "Dude - did you even run? Or did you just walk from picture to picture?" Whatever it took, baby, whatever it took! :rotfl2:

Well, I've tested my RunKeeper app against a few courses at home where I knew the mileage and it was pretty spot on.

But for the Princess, I clocked in with 14.2 miles run ?! Now, I did some significant weaving and made one out of the way bathroom stop, but I still didn't expect it to be that off. I know it started to get off by mile 5, which is about where I started stopping for photos and the course got more crowded. At least, that's my explanation for it.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I think about mile five is where I too noticed it being slightly off. But not by much. Even mile ten it wasn't bad. But by the time I hit Epcot, runkeeper had me at almost 13 miles. All my pictures through Epcot I look angry. My expression was that of "where the heck is the finish ?!?!" I wouldn't think I went enough off course to add the extra 1/3 mile... And while I complained about needing to weave- I doubt I did THAT much ;)

You looked like you had so much fun!!! Running alone I had fun in my own way..... But I do feel a tad jealous of the kind of fun you had! But... I know myself and I would have been seriously nervous. Making all those stops

Hi all: I'm not a runner but was hopeful one of you could answer a burning question I had on the crowds associated with the race.

We've been thinking about our daughters first trip to Disney since before she was born and had always planned on going for her 3rd birthday (Feb 14). I knew we'd need to work around the Presidents Day holiday and were looking to travel the Wed/Thur after Presidents day to ensure we missed the crowds but also to be there when r daughter turned 3 (21 Feb).

I just realized that when we planned to go coincides with the princess half-marathon. Can anyone let me know how bad the crowds are? I'm hopeful if we avoid parks that have marathon related activities going on on any given day that will help, but I've read other posts of snarled traffic and booked up hotels.

Anyone have insight? Alternative is to go earlier in February but we really wanted to be there on her birthday, but really don't want to deal with crowds.

DH and I had such a great time running the Princess last week! I'm having withdrawls already! We just signed up for Tower of Terror and waiting for Wine and Dine to open. We'll also be doing the Dumbo Double Dare for our Coast to Coast medals. Also really looking forward to the Goofy Challenge again- we had a great time this year!!

DH is a natural runner and can run a half in 1:40, but I am slower. During the Disney races he paces me and stays with me. I am going to use the next few months to try to increase my pace more. We have a couple of 10k's scheduled as well to try to get better corral placement. I was able to beat my Donald 1/2 time by 8 minutes last week but I know I can get under the 2:20 mark on a non-Disney race!

Running can definitely be addictive!

As of right now I am in for my 2nd PHM! I'm trying to convince my 21 year old DD that she would love it! I'm also considering Tink as well and going for the C2C. :thumbsup2

My first half wasn't as magical as I expected...I got sick from the humidity and almost had to quit. :crazy2: I somehow (maybe it was the pixie dust) made it to the end before the sweeper vans.

I have done this with my two twenty something daughters twice, the first and third year and we had a lot of fun. If you run together just make sure it is good for you both. The first year we finished together and the third year we just all made it to the castle together because of illness falling on two of us a couple days before the race.

DH and I found it more crowded than when we usually go for wine & food festival in Oct ( we usually go during a non race week). I know with skiing trips Pres week is more crowded due to winter break (schools in San Antonio don't have this) and it was the same with Disney. Also add to the fact 26,000 runners just for PHM along with families etc and yes...crowded. Probably not as bad as summer but...if DD doesn't like crowds I would go earlier or later than PHM week.

Okay...think DH and I have completely lost our minds...got us 2 Regis for DL 1/2 in sept through Get it travel on the rundisney website. C2C here we come...not looking forward to training in the TX heat this summer :lmao:

I thought they were all sold out. Good to know that there are slots available still.

I agree- it is going to be tough training in this TX heat to get ready for DL! But we'll get it done sweat and all!!

Can anyone tell me how flat is the race course? Wondering if I should train for hills!

Thanks!

My name is Joanne and this will be my third Princess race! I look forward to getting to know y'all!

So glad I found this forum. I want to do the Disney Princess next year and trying to convince a couple of my girlfriends to do it with me. I just started running again as I am trying to get healthy and lose weight. I'm excited as I am a big kid at heart and I love Disney! Plus I live less than 2 hours away. Currently I'm on week 5 of the Couch 2 5k. Doing well and plan on doing my first 5K in a couple of months. My goal is to lose about 80lbs, so between my cardio, running, and chasing my toddler I should be good to go! Looking forward to running my first half in a tiara! :yay:

I am also a big kid at heart! Iran my first Princess in 2012 and have been trying to convince a few of my girlfriends to to it with me, but all are non runners. Because of this I keep dragging my husband to Orlando with me! He's a trooper! Good luck with your 5k!

The crowds are pretty high but if you hit parks early you should be okay. I would assume your child will nap in the afternoon. The Monday after the race and the rest of the week after is GREAT.

No real hills! Fl overpasses at end of race. I haaattteeee hills and find princess to be totally ok

Tx heat/ ugh. Yes. Doing dumbo and the training a going to suck. See a lot of tm in my future.

Crowds- before the half it's busy. After- its lovely. Mon and Tuesday were great for me in the parks!

Get travel had half and 10k race entries but no dumbo dare. My 10 yr old is going to do the 10k now!
