Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Well it sounds like we need to get the C2C sweatshirts Friday when they open !!!!:thumbsup2 I know we will drive down on Thurs. so I can get to the expo and stand in line early. I can pick something up for you if you like if your coming in later (I've still got my 20% AP discount I can use--we must get our sweatshirts. Just let me know) What do you think about the RunDisney New Balance shoes ??? I feel like I am getting sucked into having to get them and I don't even really LOVE them. Marketing really works on me too much.:rotfl2:

I talked to Penny at Stovall's and she should be loading rates next wk or so for Tink. I'll keep you posted.
I was so exhausted fighting my way through the event merch at the expo that I didn't spend any time at Raw Thread except to grab a shirt so I did not see the items you are looking for. :( I'm thinking about the new MM one with the large bow on the front--maybe for DL. I will say their booth was HUGE even had a dressing room which was nice.
AP prices---I just try not to think about it and I afraid how much they will go up this yr.
You would be perfect on the RunDisney planning team !!!!! Then you could maybe just "bring me along too for the fun stuff":lmao:

Do you think they will have a new DL Dooney bag for us to pre-order ????
I really love the mickey one they had for the marathon. Just loved it and the colors. I guess I can only hope.

Thanks for the expo offer, but I'll be there early too! I have enough points on SWA that I have a free RT flight that wknd, I think I get in around 8:15 or so. I'll be there in line early too, I can just imagine w/ DDD how fast everything will go. Strategy is DDD 1st and C2C 2nd, hopefully they're not too spread out. I have my Disney Visa, so I still get 10% off which is still good, plus I have reward $ left over from WDW and Tink which I will put to good use. I saw the NB shoes, I'm just not a big Minnie fan, but I did like the Raw Threads bow shirt. I think I'm going w/ my Cinderella shirt Sun that I didn't fully use last year b/c of my knee this year. For Sat's race I'm going to work w/ a girl on Etsy to make a mickey/LSU football iron-on since it's just a 10k and the season starts that day.

I wonder if they will have a DB bag for us? I don't remember if there was one last year. I'm curious what it would look like, but I love love love the small attractions one from last year, so if there isn't one, I'm okay. But if/when I do TOT and if they have one, I will definitely be getting one of those. I love that ride!

And if I ever get a job there, I will definitely hook you up!

Just left Orlando yesterday after running the Princess Half, and am setting my sights on the Tinkerbell 2014 as my next Disney race, hopefully to be followed by the Wine & Dine 2014 to get that Coast-to-Coast medal.

Already daydreaming about costume concepts... :)

Erin

You will love running Tink !!! No humidity :cool1:

Did you book your ticket yet ?? SWA is now up through late Sept. My Mom got her ticket today to fly down and babysit while DH and I run.

You are right the DDD stuff is going to fly off the shelves. It seems like everyone I spoke to in WDW were all doing the DDD. If the expo opens at the usual time of 12:00 or so....I hope to get there a couple hrs early with a book. I think I am going to do the merch. line first unless you need to get your bibs first. I'll pick up DH & our mousketeers kids race bib and they can play in the park while I spend the morning in line.

I can't remember---do we need our number before getting into merch ?? For some reason I thought they tightened things up last year about anyone buying stuff without a bib. (Or maybe that was wishful thinking on my part)

We've never had a D & B for DL. Only Tink and I passed on that. I am "thinking" about the back pack. Just don't know how to "explain" that to DH. :confused3

No bibs needed!! :cool1: For the merch stuff, race shirts ~ yes. I did that for Tink, by the time I got over to the expo, before it opened, the bib line was crazy insane so I did the expo 1st and the bib stuff after. I was going to do the same thing for DL. I'm hoping for cool DDD stuff, but the girl I was telling you about on Etsy has a cute DDD one that I'm going to order as well. That way if they don't have anything good, or they sell out I can still have my own shirt. Plus I can get the style of shirt I like and it'll be something that everyone else won't be wearing on Sun.

I booked my flight down already, just waiting on a couple more points for the flight back. But going down is the most important part! If I get stuck down there, it would be absolutely horrible.

As for the backpack... :scratchin ... you could tell him the obvious ~ it's a backpack, so it's different than a purse. It's easier to carry around, no sliping off your shoulder or something to carry. And, you can put stuff in it for you guys while you're in the park. Snacks, a water, jacket if it's cold in the morning or night. If you bring stuff in for your son, you can hold it in the backpack and the same if you buy something ~ no need to hold the bags, it'll go in the backpack!! See, it's a very use for item, that everyone needs at the parks.

About the bibs-good to know. :thumbsup2

Good suggestions --will try !! But I also want to see if we get a bag for DL.

Hey - seems like there will be several of us from the Bay Area at Tink. :thumbsup2

It will be my first Disney race & prob only my 2nd one ever, so I am sure I will have a million questions. It sounds like you are speaking in another language, so I sure do have a lot to learn!

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Are you doing any local races b/w now and Tink? I'm doing the Color Run at Candlestick tomorrow and in SJ in May and Bay to Breakers in May also.

And don't worry about race slang - you'll get the hang of it in no time! :goodvibes And if something doesn't make sense, ask way!!

Yeah another Bay Area runner !!!!! :wave2:
Tink is such a fun race, I'm sure you will love it.

I have a group of 5 ladies that were planning to do the 2014 Princess Half but now want to switch over and do the 2014 Tink instead.

I'll be watching this thread for all the tips!

I signed up for Dumbo Dare- so I'll be back in CA for that one! Talked DH into getting his C2C by going over to W&D (I really wanted to run this- so it wasn't hard to do!) and then planning on Tink and possibly Princess after that! WOOO HOOOO! Can't wait.

I love to runDisney!

No races at all - yet. I am not even a runner :confused3 but I am "in training" LOL. Still working on my distance & pace with walking.

I want to enter the Women's Nike 1/2 in SF in Oct. if we can get in. They give you 6 1/2 hrs I think to complete that one, so I know I can do that. I have heard that if you don't get in, you can get tics from 3rd party sources (???).

My goal is to complete the Tink & not get swept  so I am not looking for great times or anything, just to finish :woohoo:

Any & all suggestions welcome! Super excited. :cool1:

I have never been to DL and you ladies are talking in abbreviations! lol
Which hotel is everyone planning to stay at for the Tinkerbell? I think one of the posts said something about a special discount being posted soon for the hotels. I want to book as soon as possible.

I've been bitten by the Disney running bug! Just got back from PHM. Now, looking forward to the C2C in 2014 with Tink and Wine and Dine! Woo hoo!!! Pixie dust all around!!!pixiedust:

Well, if you want to get ambitious and do the Color Run in SJ, I'll walk it w/ you! No peer pressure or anything. :rotfl2: Seriously though, it's a great starter race - it's a 5k, there is no timing (not even a clock at the start/finish line), there is no time limit, it's a ton of fun and a great way to get a race experience w/ no pressure. There were a lot of people walking the race yesterday also, I think there were more walkers than runners. If you're interested, let me know.

For NWM, you can enter either by yourself or w/ a group. The bigger your group, the better your chances b/c if one person gets picked, everyone is in. It also helps if someone is running the marathon, b/c it's easier to get in if you register for the full. If you sign up and register your runs with nike+, a lot of times they'll open up some spots closer to the race, that's how I've done the past 2 years. There's been a group on this thread the past couple of years. Usually reg for the lottery opens in Apr, not sure about this year, b/c that's when they're doing the DC 1/2 so it might be a little later this year. I'm thinking about this one again this year. If I don't get into NY, I'm going to try for the marathon, but if I get into NY and it's the 3rd weekend of Oct, I'll try for the 1/2. I wasn't going to it this year but it's the 10th anniversary so it's going to be big and I got sucked back in! You can totally train and do this one! Make sure you train for hills, there are some gnarly ones. And there is a tooooonnn of support out there for the 1/2. If you do this one, Tink will be a cake walk and no getting swept! :goodvibes

I staying at either Paradise Pier Hotel (PPH) or Best Western Stovall's. The discount hotels through Get Travel usually open around registration time. But aside from the 3 resort hotels, you can find hotels around the resorts cheaper w/ a AAA card. Those should open soon.

:wave2: Hi!

Kimm the NWHM San Fran is Oct 20th. I got an invite from a local running club, that has guarenteed entries, to join them for the half. Umm not this girl. :sad2: I'm still to new to running and the thought of HILLS scares me to no end. Plus I am signed up for a local half the weekend before, a flat half I might add. :rotfl2:

I ran a 6K today that was chip timed and finished in 55 mins. The 5K time was 47:03.
My first ever 5K last July took me 59:10 so I am pleased with my improvement.

I am really starting to enjoy this running stuff. Who knew. :confused3

:wave2: Hi!

How fun, but I really AM a princess! No mud, no paint Lol. :goodvibes

I was looking at the Diva's 5k in SF on May 5th. Have you ever heard of it?
Looks very girly!

You are now scaring me for the WNHM! I read that you had 6 1/2 hours to finish! Even with hills, I am guessing that I can do that in less than 6 1/2 hrs even if I walk! Did I read it incorrectly? :guilty:

I am a SERIOUS beginner. Right now I have been WALKING 8 miles on basically flat ground 2x a week @ 2 hrs 15 min. No running yet. (Or rather jogging).

Can I do this???

:cool1:

Princess was great for me! We stopped for tons of pictures and had a great time!!! Very humid and I missed the Tink weather for sure. Love my new medals and the friends I ran with! Super fun weekend.

Wasn't going to do it again next year but now I think I need to. :)

Kim - how was the color run?

DVCDAISY - you sound exactly like me last year! Nike was my first half and Tink was my second. I'm officially hooked and hoping to do Nike again this fall and Tink next Jan. Get some 5K's under our belt, evena 10K if you can, before Nike. This way you'll have some idea of what to expect on a race day.

I am SO with you with the whole princess NO mud, No paint !!!! :rotfl2:

How do you Bay Area Tinks find out about these races ??? I would love to do one for the 4th of July. Anyone know of anything ??

Thanks for the date!! I was thinking/hoping that would be the date, although my wallet was hoping it'd be the weekend before.

Congrats on the times!!!

I have heard of the Diva's races in May, although I haven't run it yet. You're right about the time for Nike, it's 6 1/2 hours. And w/ you already doing 8 miles 2x a week, you can totally finish the race. Just make sure to try and get some hills in beforehand to help your training along. The big one is after the Presidio before the Golden Gate Bridge, b/c you go from ocean level to just below the bridge, but after you go under the bridge, you keep going back up hill again. There are some more after that, but not as bad. But don't let them deter you, you can totally do the race. Plus, after you get to the top of the hill after the bridge, there is a big downhill and you go downhill again after the Cliff House before Golden Gate Park.

Princess was great for me! We stopped for tons of pictures and had a great time!!! Very humid and I missed the Tink weather for sure. Love my new medals and the friends I ran with! Super fun weekend.

Wasn't going to do it again next year but now I think I need to. :)

Yay!!! Sorry about the weather, but glad you had a great time! I need to get out there again for that race.

Kim - how was the color run?

Color run was a complete blast!! There were a ton of people too. Last year they did 2 races, a morning and early afternoon race, but this year I think they just did one big race. I was about 1/4 of a mile from the finish and people were just starting. And the weather was great, the Stick can always be a hit or miss but the sun was out and it wasn't windy or cold at all. I can't wait until the one in San Jose in May!!

How do you Bay Area Tinks find out about these races ??? I would love to do one for the 4th of July. Anyone know of anything ??

A lot of times, it's either through Runner's World magazine ads or little side advertisements on websites that will show up after I visit a running site. I haven't heard of any for the 4th, but I did hear of 1 in May you might be interested in. It's called the Mission City Run and it's May 5th at 8am. It's a 5k race and they have a mile race for kids. It's at Great America and it's $45 and it includes a shirt, medal and a ticket into Great America that day. (Are you reading Run Disney? $45 and a free park ticket :rotfl2:) I think I might do that one, I haven't been to GA in forever.
