Drinks on board?

So is it because they think bringing your own wine out to the pool (or wherever) will lessen their beverage sales?

I'm not being difficult, I'm searching for the reason/logic. Sadly, I have never been a "just follow the rules because it's the rules" kind of person. I always do better when I understand the reasons behind the rules.

I have no idea what their reasoning is. It's their ship, their rules. And as their guest I follow their requests and rules. People used to bring on rolling coolers filled with beverages. DCL has cracked down and no longer allows them. Not to long ago they implemented a limit on alcohol, but rescinded it. I'm not sure what it will take for DCL to decide that we may no longer bring liquor onboard, but they have set limits and I will follow them. I guess I don't understand why it is such a big deal to people to push the boundaries. Why possibly ruin a good thing?

I always find it weird how many people get bent out of shape over wearing shorts to dinner because Disney suggests dinner attire, but think its ok to walk about public spaces with alcohol that the rules clearly state must be consumed in your room.

Not that I care either way. Doesn't bother me, but the clear contradiction does bother me.

It is what some feel is ok, but according to DCL

Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. That is why they have wait staff selling the Drink of the Day. They don't want us celebrating.

Actually they are smart. Most folks bring drink one to the pool and then start buying rather then hike back. Disney probably knows if they get the first drink down you, your "wall" is down

I agree completely. I have mixed a drink and enjoyed it at the pool then have purchased one not wanting to go back to the room.

As for walking with it, how is that any different than purchasing a drink at one of the bars and walking around the ship while enjoying it. Must we sit at the bar in order to drink?

Is it that terrible to have a glass of wine at home and walk to your neighbor's house to chat? It's not like I'm walking to the local store.

As for a party boat atmosphere like Carnival, they have the reputation and don't allow people to bring aboard their own alcohol....

I am just happy I don't have to be all sneaky on th DCL, Like I have on other lines! I always take my own and share with others! Always remember there are those around you who will judge you know mater what!

On my recent trip I did exactly this on some evenings and others I brought a bottle of wine to the MDR and paid the the $20 corkage fee.

I am planning on bringing a few adult bottles on board myself. I know the rules, but we are not planning on getting wasted on deck, just enjoy a few beverages & save some $$ for excursions & gifts.

Because if people feel they don't have to follow the rules, DCL may decide to no longer allow us to bring liquor onboard.

This is the bottom line!

we are trying to keep this rather nice perk, and if people abuse it, with a *the rules don't apply to me* attitude...they may take it away!

I guess it would be like pouring a glass of (wine, rum & coke, whatever) and walking down the street to our neighborhood pool. It just isn't right. You can't be walking down the street drinking alcohol.


And even the PP advocating doing it states "it is so wrong to violate the rules". So they also are aware it's a rule.

They will sell you drinks almost anywhere on the ship and give them out in a few places also(Spa, art room, DVC gatherings).

So it is not illegal.

Heck they sell 2 for the price of one. What does that tell you?

Just don't bring glass to the pool deck and be sure to take one to Dinner and enjoy!

Not sure it has anything to do with family friendliness or "drinking in public" because if you buy a drink from one of their bars, you can walk wherever you want with it. Booze is booze no matter where you get it. Of course they want you to buy most of your drinks from Disney. Why not, they do make a few good drinks.

I know what the rules are and I'm not advocating scofflawism ( if that is a word) but as you can get a drink from a bar and walk around anywhere that could be at first pass indistinguishable from one poured in your room, my impression ( and yes it differs from the rules set forth by disney) is that they do not want you to POUR your own drinks in public areas.

I think you could spend all day running back and forth from the pool to your room to fill your cup with little problem ( unless you were filling big gulps full of booze). People have also advocated opening a bottle of wine in your room, having a glass then bringing a glass to dinner and you should not get the corkage fee, which to me is somewhat similar.

If disney really didnt want people moving from place to place with alcohol they could implement the " drink it where you bought it" rule.

I don't think the issue is drinking in public, it comes down to money. Disney does not mind if you are relaxing in your room having a drink. However when you are in a public area there are servers and bartenders there who would like to make money. Also Disney would like to make some profit off of alcohol. I have never been stopped for walking around with a drink that I bought on the ship from a bartender or server. It's not the same as walking around a city street with alcohol, it is private property and you are on a ship. I am a police officer and I always follow the rules, I would never want to lose the perks of having a drink in my room. I do have to say that the rules are not always enforced. I was horrified on our first cruise when my husband did not realize the rules and brought a corona up to the pool deck. The bartender waived him over, took his beer, and switched it out with a cold Corona from his refrigerator and poured it into a plastic cup for him!!!!! I don't know if this happens often or if he did this because we had been drinking at his bar and tipping well lol. My husband did not do this again but I can see how it would be confusing to someone who was not aware and they would continue to bring drinks up.
