Drinks on board?

We have our first cruise coming up next week! I understand that DCL allows bottles of wine in carry on luggage and there is a corkage fee at restaurants. However, can you bring rum etc onboard? Can you mix a drink and bring it on deck? It is not that I plan on drinking the whole time...lol. But, we would like to save some $ where we can.

Yes,you can bring rum and other alcohol onboard. Technically the rule is alcohol brought on board is only supposed to be consumed in your stateroom; however, many cruisers, myself included, make drinks to take to the pool, etc. I have been on 7 DCL cruises and have never had a problem and see many doing it. I also like to save money as you said, and I buy a good amount of DCL drinks too. However, be prepared for a lengthy thread here of comments about telling you how it is so wrong to violate the rules and drink what you bring outside of your room.

You may bring onboard whatever beverages you wish. As many as you wish. It just needs to be in your carryon bags, not checked.

Answer
Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Yes. You can carry it on and drink it on deck. We generally just bring beernand wine. But I know folks who basically bring a bar

I guess it would be like pouring a glass of (wine, rum & coke, whatever) and walking down the street to our neighborhood pool. It just isn't right. You can't be walking down the street drinking alcohol.


And even the PP advocating doing it states "it is so wrong to violate the rules". So they also are aware it's a rule.

So is it because they think bringing your own wine out to the pool (or wherever) will lessen their beverage sales?

I'm not being difficult, I'm searching for the reason/logic. Sadly, I have never been a "just follow the rules because it's the rules" kind of person. I always do better when I understand the reasons behind the rules.

Well, every Saturday in the summer my neighbors and are "wrong" according to you.

I really don't care what the hysteria says. I would take my own drinks tothe pool etc. Bring on the flames. I can take it. I don't reuse my mugs, I don't smuggle booze into theme parks etc...and considering that on the Dream the adult pool had about 10 types of beer not sold on the cruise I don't think i am alone. The bartender was even asking guest about their personal beers LOL

Now I would never walk into a resturant with a glass of wine etc...

The big issue is NO GLASS. So if you carry BYYB put it in plastic. Disney will say something about glass around a pool.

But just walking around celebrating is not what they envision as "family friendly".

That is why they have wait staff selling the Drink of the Day. They don't want us celebrating.

Actually they are smart. Most folks bring drink one to the pool and then start buying rather then hike back. Disney probably knows if they get the first drink down you, your "wall" is down

Aren't there already bars selling drinks over by the pool? If I wanted to booze it up and have a party while I'm just walking around, doesn't Disney already make that easy? I thought I read that CMs walk around offering you drinks to purchase on deck? By the pool? Right?

Yes, but, if you start acting out, they can cut you off, since they are the ones supplying your drinks.
