EMH being axed????

I see how the FP+ (with long range "planning" needed) and RFID bracelets ties in well with the 2013 Disney special "promotion" where they will plan special events once a week at a park. To make money, since that is their business, they need to maximize use of current rides, shows, restaurants, etc. So with eventually more people having to plan ahead they will build up their information. They can then help shift crowds to spread the load better. I could see this meeting less long range schedules for EMHs. I bet as they develop more awareness of who is planning to go to what park that some of those special weekly events will "pop up" in parks where they need to drive more people. I can't find the post now but as someone else pointed out -- imagine, for the good and the bad, how the RFID will be used to shift people around. Say a greater than desired capacity of people are near Space Mountain+ based on RFID info then something (smaller pop-up event, more characters, $1 off a cotton candy) will help pull some people elsewhere in the park. That's good in helping to keep people moving but a little creepy but then again so many people don't mind the info they are giving to Facebook,Google, etc. So I bet something like EMH lives on but becomes a more flexible tool.

OK...took it upon myself to call and check with WDW directly. I talked to Paulie in Guest Services and she was so sweet. She said she cannot see WDW doing away with EMHs and has not heard anything about them going away. She's not sure why the September calendar is not out, but she said it may have to do with the scheduling for the MNSSHP.

Hope this calms some people down....I know it did for me. :)

I honestly do not mean to be snarky. Promise;)

I am surprised however with all your posts and the length of time you have been on the disboards that you would believe that someone in Guest Services is in the "know" when it comes to this? Like the PP mentioned the employeeson the phone are usually the last to know. I can not tell you how many times many of us talk to guest services and get frustrated that we are more informed than they are. It is frustrating and I learned long ago calling does not mean much. We just have to wait and see. Change though is inevitable in all things.

This is the rumour board so I would not get to anxious yet!:)

So that would mean the only real advantages to staying onsite would be Disney transportation and the ability to have packages delivered to your room---as though THAT would be enough to draw guests to Disney hotels????

It used to be the Dining Plan being available was a perk. It is obvious by your posts and many others like it the value is no longer there and is no longer a perk. I thought it was interesting.

I seem to be alone here: I really don't care about EMH. My family has stayed onsite twice and have never considered using EMH. When we're on vacation it's early to bed and late to rise. We never tour commando. We make a vague plan, wake up when we wake up, wander to the bus stop whenever we're all ready, do what calls to us at the moment and head back to the resort before we get too tired to have fun. You might not be surprised to hear that I still have a Disney bucket list as long as your arm and then some, but we'll get it all done eventually.

It's nice to know that EMH are available just in case we wanted to burn the midnight/sunrise oil some day. But it wouldn't make a difference to our plans if they disappeared. Am I totally alone in this? Yeah, I thought so. Reading these boards I've realized that we're far too lazy to be DIS people. :rotfl:

On one hand, I would be disappointed if they are gone. It's not merely about being able to ride the rides a little bit longer, it's also about simply being able to stay inside a little longer. Getting inside an hour early just makes the place all the more fun.

On the other hand, with the evening EMH, the time I was able to use these, the places were dead. Yeah, it was a perk being able to get onto rides as easily as the FP line, but the crowds were so thin, the parks felt closed. When in the MK I felt like I was staying inside the park after being told to leave and EPCOT left me feeling like I was wandering back alleys alone in a strange city. I found myself second-guessing whether I had the right park on the right night.

Based on my 2009 trip, I could certainly see them removing the evening hours. But the morning hours should stay.

Quite. I felt like got the money's worth on the DDP on my last trip. Since it took too much time away from the parks to make it to certain table meals, I was looking at the quick-service plans for my next one. The savings just aren't there. I think I could do better OOP.

I've always followed the strategy of avoiding the evening EMH park. So really have never attended one. The strange thing is, I've seen tons of posts saying the same thing as the quoted line above and as much or more saying that lines were just as long during evening EMH as they were during the day. There really seems to be some level of unpredictability to them - I'm guessing outside of the real peak times. So maybe they could cut them only during the traditionally "slower" times - although recent reports suggest those really do not exist any more.

A nice user on thedibb.co.uk provided me with a link for the September 2013 calendar which has just been released. Does this confirm EMH isn't being axed this September?

I just looked at the September calendar and there are definitly EMH listed! Hooray! So....EMH getting axed is just a rumor.....at least for September anyway:goodvibes

Not related to EMH...but does it seem odd to anyone else that Fantasmic! is scheduled every single night?

I'd hate for them to get rid of EMH. It's a great advantage for those of us who don't mind getting up early and getting to the parks to take advantage of this perk. This is especially true if you can park hop. Take advantage of the morning EMH and then get out of there around lunch time and back to another, hopefully slower, park in the afternoon.

I always found the Evening Extra Magic Hours pointless. It's almos the same as during the day except they make you show your room card before entering the line. I say they should bring back E Ride Night.

And I'm surprised that as long as you've been on here you have such a nasty tone to your voice. You can say you don't want to be snarky all you want, your tone not only in response to me, but to another poster show differently.

That being said, I guess the CM I spoke to was "in the know" now that the September calendar has been publicly released.

Morning EMH mean nothing to me in my mid-20s with no kids, but I would be DEVASTATED if they got rid of evening EMH, especially in high season. I love being able to stay until 2 am when it's cooler and doing the big ticket rides. I'm glad Sep. calendar still has them listed.

no! to remove emh would be disaster!

there are so many days that the parks are so crowded that we can not get on the rides. :sad2: emh is our only way on some trips.

also that is a special time my grandson and i have always spent together. we would miss that so much.:rolleyes2

"Guest services" show up, punch a clock, and then leave and deal with the realities of their employment and the problems it brings...like every other rank and file WDW employee.

They are not "specialized" nor trained in any elaborate manner. In most cases they just gravitate to that type of job.

They do not have prior access to policy changes, strategic changes, or any "classified" information.

In most cases they simply have limited access to the central computer system and that yields nothing unique.

So the "snarky" criticisms of criticism...while unnecessary, are somewhat understandable when the same problem occurs over an over again.

And that problem is "I called up an 800 number and somebody told me...because they KNOW"

No...they don't...never did, never will.

Typically the public knows first. WDW is a multibillion dollar annual revenue generator for a huge corporation. They do not want 55,000 generally low trained foot soldiers running around with non-disclosed information that could affect that business.
So the simple, easy, effective policy is to tell them nothing of value.

The "snark"...at least for me...sometimes comes from having to be repetitive on this FACT to the point of mental exhaustion.
I guess the best policy is to ignore it...but it becomes difficult when you see people buying in and setting themselves up for disappointment on an almost daily basis. Sometimes even snarkers care and mean well.
