Poor Unfortunate Soles: Marathon Weekend 2013 (5K, Half and Full Marathon)-COMPLETE!!

I'm so sad it's over!! You have to do some non Disney running trip reports!! I know you said goofy in 2015....do you think you'll do any races in 2014??

Awww, it's already over? :sad1: Great report as usual. I certainly agree with C2C stuff. While it's a great idea, I don't know if I could do it budget wise, not to mention it's getting harder and harder to register for a DL race. I know Anaheim limits what DL can do, but I don't think a 3rd race weekend would hurt anyone.

Thank you so, so much for writing such a fabulous report! I am sad it's over :( I can't wait to experience the half next year and reading your thoughts and experiences has helped motivate me!

Thanks for posting this, it's really helpful!!!

Here's a great website for finding races by State sorted by various distances.

The 50 Stater's Gadget is a really neat tool to find back to back races in nearby states for anyone attempting to run in all the states.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful report! I'm sad it is over, but I look forward to the next one :)
And thank you for being so kind and generous with your time answering questions and giving advice!

It's a bummer that your last morning wasn't so great but luckily you'll be back and will have plenty more trips to make some better memories! Ohana sounds great! I love Lilo and Stitch so I've been trying to sell DSis on it but no luck so far :rotfl:

What a great TR! So happy I got the chance to read about your trip. I was in a little bit of a running lull when I subbed in and hearing your story has really motivated and inspired me to get back on track!

(So I've been lurking on this TR and kept meaning to post but never did..)

Thank you so much for writing this! I truly enjoyed reading it. Your 2011/2012 trip report inspired me when I was training for the ToT Ten Miler, and reading this one definitely makes me want to do the marathon next year!

Congratulations on completing Dopey, that is fantastic! :goodvibes

:sad1: Sorry to see your TR come to an end - I have really enjoyed reading along!
Good for you sticking to your training plan - I know what you mean about feeling like getting through the training is almost as big an accomplishment as the races themselves. I am as proud of that 16 mile training run I did in sub-freezing weather all by my lonesome self as I am of the actual marathon.
Please do another pre-TR training log again when you do Goofy in 2015, as I am planning on doing it too and will need the insipration!
Thanks again for another great TR! :wave2:

Noooooo! This trip report can't be complete already!

Great job, as usual I have discovered lots of things about Disney that I definitely need to keep in mind for our next trip - Animation Academy, Town Square Theatre, Gaspirilla Island (because I NEED to eat those chips - never had them before and I love homemade chips), etc. So I thank you for introducing me to Disney things that I didn't know about!

Now I just have to balance my wanting to visit Disney with my want to visit other places in the world!
I didn't know about Animation Academy until I read someone else's trip report...you learn something new every day! And I'm sure that Gaspirilla isn't the only place that has those chips: we've had them at Kona duirng lunch (not sure if they are still there) and at Roaring Forks at the Wilderness Lodge, so I'm sure they're around other places too. They are AWESOME! :)

I know what you mean about wanting to visit Disney vs. wanting to visit other places...Disney really sucks us in.
Another great trip report! I enjoyed it just as much as the last one of yours I read.

I do think when I get mine done I want to figure out a way to download it and save it. It will make a nice reminder of my first marathon.
Thanks Gisele! If you figure out a good way to download your trip report let me know. I've seen people make scrapbooks on Shutterfly and sites like that, so I'm considering it...especially since I got a $20 Shutterfly credit when I bought my one photo from the marathon. It would be a long book though...

I'm sad it's over too! I'll definitely do some races in 2014, just not sure which ones yet. I have a few coming up this year too. :)

Thanks! That C2C medal is so awesome and would look just lovely hanging in my living room...maybe runDisney will find this report and make me their new travel reporter and pay my way to all of the races. It could happen, right? :confused3 :rotfl2:

There are ways to get in the DL races - I actually got an email while I was in WDW to register early for the DL half since I have a Disney Visa. They also had early registration at the Marathon Weekend expo and the Tinkerbell Half expo, so by the time registration "officially" opened a lot of the spots had been snatched up already. I'm with you though - I would be SHOCKED if they didn't add more Disneyland race weekends. I'm sort of surprised they don't have anything at the international parks yet. :confused3

And thank you so much for reading it! :) I hope you write a report when you run the half next year. You'll have a fabulous time.

Thanks for reading! :) And you're welcome...if you have any other questions please feel free to send me a PM...though I'm no expert by any means. :p After I finish up here I need to get caught up on your journal! :thumbsup2

True, our last morning wasn't the best...but a morning at 'Ohana followed by the Magic Kingdom isn't all bad. We were just whiny. You need to make your sister see the light...everyone should experience an 'Ohana breakfast at some point in their lives. :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading and happy running!
I can't believe it's over!!!! I loved your trip report! Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for reading. :)

Awesome! Doesn't marathon registration open pretty soon (a few weeks or something?). I'm jealous you got to run the 10-miler...I definitely want to do that one.

Thanks for the congrats and for reading the report! Glad you liked it! :goodvibes

Thanks for sticking with it! :) Having the journal here to "report back to" really helped me stick to my training... It's been rough since the marathon ended. :crazy2: Not terrible but not like it was in the fall. Training for a race at home just is not as motivating...surprise surprise.

You should be proud of that 16-miler! Doing a long run in less-than-ideal weather is no small feat. :worship:

I'm sure I'll do another training log next fall. I really enjoy writing but don't quite think my day-to-day life is interesting enough to warrant my having a blog...so trip reports and training logs fill the void. :p :rotfl2: A lot of us are planning on Goofy in 2015...better make sure to register quickly!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

So sad this is over! I LOVE reading your race trip reports!

Sorry you didn't get much park time....but your accomplishments make it all worth it I'm sure!

I'll be anxiously awaiting your next report!

Yeah, I think we have finally come to terms with the lack of park time during that weekend. The races were the important things, and those went pretty well. I guess the good news is that we'll appreciate the time we have in the parks that much more during our next trip! :)

Thanks for reading!! :goodvibes

What a great report! Thank you so much for sharing -- I really enjoyed it!

With that said, try not o focus on the negative parts of the trip (not getting enough park time) and focus on the fun parts. We just got back from a trip in October that wasn't the best trip we ever had and I so wish we could have a "do over" but after beating myself up over it, I just realized it was still a great trip if I focus on the good parts about it and not the negative. But I still want a DO OVER! :rotfl: There is nothing I want more than to be able to do the Disney Half Marathon but I am not sure when that will be and at the rate I am going, I will soon be too old and my knees will be shot!

Congrats on your Goofy Challenge -- That is incredible! :thumbsup2

Great report - thanks for sharing!

I had seriously considered signing up for the marathon, but decided against it. So, it was really nice to read about your exprience and what you thought of the race.

Congrats on completing the Dopey! It's an awesome accomplishment!

Thanks for checking out the report! Glad you liked it. :)

The further removed we get from the trip (has it been 6 weeks already?!) the less we think about the not-so-great parts. I think as time goes on we'll probably come close to forgetting them completely (same thing happened with our honeymoon trip when it rained pretty much the entire week). Amen on getting a do-over though! Even when things weren't going perfectly on this most recent trip we made sure to keep in mind that we'd be back.

Thanks for the congrats! :) I hope you get to do the half some day. Lots of people successfully walk the Disney races, so maybe that's something for you to look into if you don't think your knees are cut out for running. :goodvibes

Thank you! :) It really is a great marathon (well-organized, good water stops, a course that goes through DISNEY PARKS :worship), but if the distance isn't for you I'm sure you'd love any of the other races at Disney. :thumbsup2
