May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

I have a 15 passenger reserved w/ National using the KML code - $630 for the week for the 9 of us. However, we booked our flights last night, one group flying home in the AM and the other in the PM. I just reserved a mini van w/ budget $302 and an economy car w/ Dollar $230. I think we will like having two cars better.

Just bumping back up to the first page. I'm looking for a good price for a May 10th-20th rental.

Watching for a good rate too. We need a rental for April 30 to May 18 (18 days). May do a split rental. Are there any coupons out yet for Alamo or National for May? Sadly the rates don't seem to drop until weeks prior. I just returned last week and I didn't get a better rate until about a week before my trip. Even then it was high (for January, which is generally my lowest rental for the year).

Best pricing I have found for May is National using contract ID 5125601 (Amex) and coupon code NF5594ZDP (Visa free day). Not sure if I can actually use both, but it let me book it that way. This combo resulted in great prices for sedans, but strangely SUVs and minivans are outrageous under it (like $1000/day).

When is the best time to reserve a rental? We just need it for 1 day, May 2nd to go to Cocoa Beach from Port Orleans Riverside.

I assume you mean how far in advance (as opposed to time of day to pickup/dropoff). I think the answer is as soon as you see a rate you can live with. Unlike most airlines, car rental companies allow you to change/cancel/rebook without penalty. So I always reserve something I can live with and keep watching to see if prices drop. They almost always do. Most of the time, I find the best price within two weeks of the rental pickup date. Good luck.

I just tried this but it said my length of days (8) conflicted with the Visa code. How many days did you book for?

The visa code may be only up to 5 days. It is for one free day on a weekend rental. My rental is only 4 days. Try it without the coupon code -- the AMEX rate was still quite nice.

Try Budget using travelocity code x474200 and e-coupon MUPZ044 for $40 off. Total for 7 days is $262 inc taxes after e-coupon is applied when return minivan. Budget also includes free additional driver and Dollar charges $10/day extra.

I used the codes you listed (thanks!) and it brought the rate down to $460.44 for 10 days. I think they charge more if you're flying into Sanford... I'll keep checking!

It wouldn't let me use the coupon code either, and the total for 10 days came out to $1015 for an economy!!! Ouch!

That coupon code is only for a 3-5 day rental. I've been looking for a coupon for a longer rental, but haven't found one yet.

We are looking for codes that will be valid at National for Memorial Day week, May 24-June 1 to be specific. The quotes I am getting are scaring me! :scared:

I just ran a search on National with the AMEX contract ID (5125601) and no coupon code and got a range of $209-298 for economy through fullsize. (As I previously noted, premium and up were more than $1000/week.) This was for May 24-June 1. Hope it helps.

Do you have to have an AMEX card? We do not have one.
Also when I plug in that code and price is $209-298 as you said BUT once the required taxes and airport fees are added in it is almost $400. :(

I don't know. I reserved it using a Visa and it let me, but I do have an AMEX so if they ask for it I'm not worried about it. I kinda doubt they require it as I've never been asked for cards for codes or coupons I've used before (airline frequent flyer programs, Costco, etc.), but YMMV.

We rent every year, and have never paid over $100 for 10 days. However, this year is really a little crazy. We always go through Alamo, because we have had only good experiences, and the price is right...but, not this year. We need a midsize for May 3- May 12th. Any codes out there? Any help is appreciated.
