2/15/2013 - 8 Night Western Cruise, Galveston, TX

My middle DD is 13, but she is a young 13, no make up, boys or puberity yet. She will be in the edge, but I'm thinking she will migrate to the younger side.

I'll just apologize now if I start rambling between now and noon Thursday when I flee from work... Lol. :rolleyes1

Thought I would share a couple of Magic stories while we wait... Please feel free to share yours too!!

It was our very first Magic cruise - Tyler Dean was 5-turning-6 then - and we were blown away by Castaway Cay and how unbelievably gorgeous it was. We got our cheeseburgers and other good stuff at Cookie's and sat down to eat. Just as we were taking our first bites, Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" started playing. We just grinned at each other. And ever since then, whenever we hear that song, we are immediately brought back to Castaway Cay in our minds.

Oh, and he ended up losing his first tooth in that cheeseburger a few minutes after that! And he was so impressed that the tooth fairy managed to swim all the way out to the ship to find him. :thumbsup2

This happened on the next cruise a year later. (I apologize if this gets long!!)
They had a pajama party with Goofy in the Oceaneer Club, and gave out these adorable travel-size pillows with Timon and Pumbaa on them and fabric markers the kids could color in the pictures with. It just so happened that Ernie Sabella, the voice of Pumbaa, was on our sailing and was doing an autograph session the next day. I suggested to Tyler Dean that we go and bring his pillow for Mr. Sabella to sign.

When it was our turn, TD went up there and shyly handed over his pillow, and Mr. Sabella was so excited -- he had no idea they were even giving out pillows with Timon & Pumbaa on them. He expressed all this to Tyler Dean in his best Pumbaa voice, and signed the pillow "To Tyler Dean from your friend, Pumbaa." TD was beaming. Fast forward to the last morning, hectic as always, and at breakfast we realize the pillow is not with him. We run back to the stateroom but it had already been stripped. We were told to check with lost and found back at the terminal, but we had no luck. The lady there said it would take a day or two for items to make it there, and to keep calling back. I called for a week, nothing. Tyler Dean was heartbroken. :-(

A couple of months went by, and he still talked about that pillow. I called DCL and explained the situation, and asked if they had a way I could just purchase another of those pillows, the way you can order items through WDW merchandising if you forgot to get something at the parks. She said "Let me see what I can do and I'll call you back." I didn't hear back for a week, and assumed it was a dead end.

Then a package showed up on our doorstep. It was another pillow -- re-signed by Ernie Sabella. It turned out he had sailed on the Magic again, this time with his mother, and they explained the whole situation to him and he graciously signed another pillow for my son. And now turning 17, TD still has and still cherishes that pillow.

And things like that are why we love Disney so very, very much. :goodvibes

I actually started to tear up at my desk when I read that. This is why we cruise Disney. :lovestruc::lovestruc

Thanks for sharing your stories, tears in my eyes too:)

I have never been so excited to go on a cruise before.
Looking forward to meeting everyone
Took today off work to finish getting ready -hair, highlights, waxing, new lipstick to buy (so much more to do for us girls, my husband will roll out of bed tomorrow and be ready to go)

That is my scream of frustration because the dealership cracked our water pump putting the engine back together today after replacing the timing chain! So now our car will be ready tomorrow afternoon. I'm about to come unglued!

On a happier note, Gina's story reminded me of why we are Disney people (kinda long, so bear with me):

Our first time at WDW, my daughter fell and busted her head open. Obviously needed stitches. We were staying on-property, so we had no transportation to take her to the ER ourselves, AND we were about 30 minutes out from our character lunch with Leo, June, etc (the Playhouse Disney characters.)

So, here comes a CM who summons the paramedics. They come and evaluate her, confirming that she needed stitches. They take us to first aid to wait while they made arrangements for a van to come and pick us up to take us to an urgent care center. While we were waiting, I asked about canceling our reservation and re-scheduling. No problem! Meanwhile, here comes the van to take us and as we're walking out to get in, here come Leo and June! Now, we didn't actually get to meet them because DD was so upset and hurting still, but I know they had send them there for her!

So they take us to urgent care, give us a card so we can call them back when we're done, and let us know that they will also swing us by a pharmacy afterward if needed. They took such good care of us and DD especially! We've been sold on Disney since.

Incidentally, DD of course still has her scar (she did get the liquid stitches) and we call it her "permanent souvenir." :)

This will be our first cruise, but I'm sure of the fact that we'll get the same awesome service and commitment! Can't wait!

Its alive! Its ALIVE!!! :wizard:

I tried some tricks I found online, and my little Flip video is working again!! :worship:

That sucks about the car! I hate car stuff as I am completely ignorant about cars. They could tell me the flibberty Tibet needed fixing and I'd just have to fork out the dough. Fingers crossed everything else goes smoothly!

I loved both your and Gina's stories. Disney is such a magical place. Having been a Cast Member for almost a decade, I know first hand how far they'll go to make Magic.

I met my husband at Disney and took my first Disney cruise for our honeymoon. Now we have two beautiful daughters and are sailing again to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Simply put, Disney is my happy place.

I cannot wait for those of you sailing for the first time to experience the sheer awesomeness of the Disney cruise and to meet all of you who have been before and share my passion! Less than 72 hours!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

So sorry about your vehicle problems, Lori! Just think of all the rest and relaxation and sun and fun in your immediate future.... :cloud9: I love your story -- it never ceases to amaze me the lengths that Disney goes to to make guests' experiences memorable.

Dorothy, so glad you got your Flip working!! :)

Katie, I think that is SO neat... Such a romantic story!!!

I am such a dork. I was tanning tonight, jamming to the music I had playing, just enjoying some me-time. Out of nowhere, I suddenly think about coming over the Causeway, turning down Harborside, seeing that beautiful ship, and realizing it's US about to get on her, instead of just going to see her. There I am, lying in the tanning bed, big ole' happy tears running down my face. At least I was alone!

He'll kill me if he knows I posted this, but I found the picture of Tyler Dean at Castaway Cay from over 10 years ago, complete with his two newly-missing teeth. :teeth:

So, I have dinner clothes for all 5 of us packed, shoes and toiletries for all 5 packed, and daytime clothing for 3 out of 5. I will be packing for my 8 yo while she's at school tomorrow, and my oldest DD is doing her laundry tonight. All FE gifts are made.... and just need to be "packaged" and bubble wrapped and packed (another project for tomorrow). I have a couple of appointments tomorrow and then I will finish up packing and we're ready to go! :cool1: Then plan is to "try" and have everyone settled down into bed by 7pm because we have to leave for the airport at 3am on Thurdsay morning. :scared1:
Safe travels to all those heading out tomorrow...

I am SO ready for this vacation! Ready for all those sea days...

Debbie (I keep forgetting to sign my name)

Been up since 4 this morning because I just can't sleep! We're mostly ready - just the few last minute things to pack and we'll be all set! (Although I do feel like we're taking every. single. thing. we own!)

Now to just get through the day! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

I can't got to sleep at night so I feel your pain! Packing today so that should help. First load of laundry is about to go into the dryer. Once the suitcases are packed I'm hoping my stress level drops. I just want to have fun this trip, not stress! I keep telling myself even if we show up with nothing but the clothes on our backs and our passports we'll still have an awesome time but the tension headache is here anyway. Dang it!

Ah well, Advil then more laundry. Oh...and a bit of work too! ;-)

Well, we've dropped the boys at school. My dad and I loaded all of my stuff into the van and then he headed home to finish up (they live less than a mile for us). My mom will come home from work at 11:30 and they will come over to get me and then we'll go get the boys from school, quick stop back home to offload all their snow gear and school stuff and then we hit the road! Should be on the road no later than 1. Can't wait to see you all there!

Me TOO... I love all the sea days in this itinerary!! And thanks for signing your name - I added it to my cheat sheet that I'm desperately trying to memorize!! :thumbsup2

I'm of the mindset that as long as I'm not flying and having to pay extra for it, packing light is for hiking trips through the Himalayas or something.. lol. I don't decide ahead of time what clothes I'm going to wear each day, aside from formal stuff... Or which shoes... Or which hair accessories... I want options, dang it!! :p Of course, that's why we have two big suitcases, one medium, one pilot case, one carryon tote, and a garment bag for two people... LOL. And I still have crap I need to cram in there somehow!!

No stress, Katie!! Just picture sun and Castaway Cay... or picture standing there on Main Street, just staring at the castle, basking in the feeling of being "home." :cloud9:

Blerk, I'm going to make myself cry again... LOL. :rolleyes1

Last full day at work for me -- I'm taking a half day tomorrow so I'll have time to run a few errands and such. Today is going to take forever to go by!! I hope there are still enough people here in the thread who haven't left yet, to keep me company!!

Have a safe trip, Stephanne, and we'll all see you onboard!! :yay:

Does anyone know what time the Magic will be coming in to port in the morning? I know it can change, but we are staying at the Harbor House, and I would love to be able to watch it come into port if possible. But I don't want to get up earlier than I have to.

We're at the Harbor House too and hoping to see that gorgeous ship at the docks when we wake up. :cool1:

Today is finishing up the packing list and checking it twice. I'm sure I won't be able to concentrate on anything else today.

Safe travels everyone. See you real soon! :cheer2:

Safe travels to all those travelling today and tomorrow! Can't wait to meet all y'all on Friday. :)

Gina, I'll be here checking the boards until 5 pm tomorrow. I was actually considering working Friday morning, since we only work half days on Friday, but I was afraid that would put us at the port too late.

I have passed excited and am now in full-on stressed!! :scared1: I'm not even sure why. We're basically packed, except for last minute stuff, but I'm sure I'll still forget something. I'm never this done this far ahead, and I still feel out of control. I feel like I'm forgetting to do something, but I don't know what. My house is a disaster, but with all our cats it will be much worse when we get home. Two of the cats have been sick, but seem to be doing better now. I think this is what is stressing me. What if they get sicker while we are away? Our cat-sitter is great, but if they are sick they will hide and he won't see them. And we are completely out of reach for all but 2 days. I'm thinking that maybe we shouldn't go now, but I don't think my travel insurance covers pet illness. :sad2: I'm usually thrilled to get away, but today i just want to sit down and cry. :sad1: Of course, I haven't had much sleep this week either.

Sorry for the rant. I'm even more stressed than I realized. Just found out that Maggie is going to miss a Math test on Friday, so I'm trying to get that worked out. Luckily, this teacher is great and will work with us. Looks like she might be able to take it before school on Friday (I'm signing her out at lunchtime.) She has a Science assignment due Friday, but that's already done and will be turned in tomorrow. We'll worry about what she's going to miss next week when we get back. ;)

Anyone have any Prozac??? :)
