(CLOSED) Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT and BAY LAKE TOWER INFORMATION THREAD

Kookster....popcorn::

The Resort Changing Fairy's keen RC senses have detected a possible resort change! Nothing gets past her! She is RC omniscient :worship:

I'd be preaching to the choir if I asked everyone's opinion here on whether I should change from FWC to Tower BLV for spring break. We've never stayed at FWC, but I love FW and have always (thought) I wanted to try a cabin, but CR is calling me home...

I don't have an answer, but hopefully someone else will. :welcome: to the thread and the DIS!

Thank you so much and welcome:) The BLT Room View thread is a great place to get location ideas. The only time you'd want to go through the CR is if it were pouring and you didn't want to get wet. Just exit out the CR "check-in"/"lobby" door on the right, right after Bell services where the port cochere is and there is a covered walkway to the bus stop.

:thumbsup2

Thank you so much! This was a huge help! Question maybe you can help me with. If I rent points am I able to add my park passes to my KTTW card at check in? I hate to have to carry around two separate things.

I am enjoying reading this thread so much! Kook, you have done a fantastic job! I am off to read the WL one next since we are staying there in December.

KOOK, I'm going to have to work some magic to get into a refurb'd room. A CM told me that the only rooms being worked on currently are the 12th and 14th floors. No other refurbs have started.

You're welcome! The concierge in the lobby should be able to add park tix to your KTTW card, but since we have APs, I've never personally done it.

Looks like a top down approach - thanks Melissa. That might be a tough one since they're CL and you'd need access. But a really sweet manager can take you up there IF they are so inclined. A manager once took us up so DH could see the CL lounge in person. He was deployed when DD and I stayed on the 12th floor and was curious about it. Also, sometimes they have what they call a 'model room' which is unoccupied and modeled fairly closely after what the final rehab should look like. WL had one they set-up before their recent room rehab.

Enjoy walking right over to the MK today:goodvibes

Does anyone have any details regarding the Garden Wing soft goods replacement/refurbishment scheduled for March? Thanks- I'll be there for the first time in August. :cool1:

Either trip will be lovely...If 7 of us crammed in a cabin (portable crib and all) think of all the room you 3 will have....I do keep giggling about how Sarah described you "roughin it" at FW  The BLV from CR :upsidedow O boy

Called DVC yesterday to add some days at BLT for our October trip. All of the studios are booked at 8 months out. Wow! They did still have 1 BRs. The CR/BLT is the happening place.

I blame Kook for too much promotion. :lmao:

The soft goods room rehab is for ALL rooms and it has already started with the CL floors. All rooms will be completed by 3/22, but we don't have any details - yet. Babyberger arrived today and hopes to get some info. for us. Generally, soft goods can include: seat coverings, headboards, mattresses, linens, shower curtains, curtains, carpeting, light fixtures, paint...

Sarah (Jungle Cruiser, RIP) would PM me and tell me that she just couldn't picture me at FWC "priming the pump" and "lighting a fire for dinner."

Can you believe that even though it's just the 3 of us, I'm worried about having only double beds and bunks? Of course you can - you're the RC Queen:goodvibes

Sure, blame the messenger. Is the October trip still on? You didn't mention it on the BWV thread. You know I'm keeping track and taking notes:magnify:

Yes, the October trip is still on, thanks for asking. We are doing the Dream on cash, and already had the budget talk earlier about the possibility of canceling the BWV trip. The car just put that over the top. But, we also like to hold enough back to go to a baseball game or something else fun right before school starts. We already had two days booked at BLT after the cruise and I was hoping to add one the night before. Too late now. Next month, I will try to get OKW or SSR the night before and have a little DTD Disney fun before the cruise.

Just an FYI, the 4th observation deck is closed. It is being used as a staging area for the 14th floor construction.

Thanks so much! BLT was not available for my dates so had to go with Kindani!

I am pretty sure they are working on the 11th floor, note the mesh covering.

Yesterday i got a lake view studio for oct 6th to Oct 11.. couldn't get our last night so I booked AKL for the 11th. Rented points. I could've picked that night up for a cash tho.

BLT experts please recommend a quiet area to rest & relax after arrival if villas is not ready ?

My flight departs upstate NY at 5:20 AM and arrives at MCO at 10:30 AM, on a Sunday and I plan to take ME to BLT, and if villa is not ready will need a place to rest/crash.

Also would consider a quiet place at one of the other monorail resorts. Would like to do EMH that night at MK, but will need a nap and some serous relaxation to make to 1 AM.

We usually arrive pretty early too, so I recommend putting your bathing suit in your carry-on. There is a nice bathroom out by the pool where you can change so you can relax out there and of course there are pool towels. The bar can order you food as well and bring it to you as you are laid out on your lounger, waiting for the text message that tells you that your room is ready.

:beach: Enjoy!!!

Good get. I didn't do a waitlist, but good to know things are opening. I don't like that cash rooms are available but not to us as members.

.

We usually drive and arrive around 7:00 AM and our rooms are never available. My favorite place to rest has always been the CR pool area. There are some nice trees over there for shade if needed, but their bigger pool area is less crowded than the BLT pool. I have also napped in the first floor lobby while the dds stared at the TV. The community hall at BLT has some places where you can sit and watch tv or play on computers. If it is raining or tv not your thing, I like the bar on the CR 4th floor (Outer Rim?) which is not too crowded to sit outside. Also, the 4th floor terrace at CR has some great places and views. Have a great stay.

Any time a member trades out to RCI, ABD, DCL etc rooms have to be sold to CRO to account for those points. I'd rather end up with cash rooms and no points inventory rather than not be allowed to trade out my points.

I just wanted to add a data point for a question I raised a few months back. Yes, the Contemporary (and any Disney Resort for that matter) will transfer your bags for free to the Swan/Dolphin.

Did this on Dec. 29, 2012. CL concierge was unaware, but was confirmed with the Bellhop desk. Bags were at the Swan/Dolphin waiting for us upon arrival!
