Walt Warriors

Hey Warriors!

Happy Marathon Day!! Finished the Hottest. Marathon. Ever. (for me at least......). Was hoping to hit 4:30, but knew, due to my really extreme lack of LR's that was probably a pipe dream. Yeah...................... it was. This WAS my first run longer than 1/2 M length since Goofy 2011. Slacker I am. Finished in 4:57, which I am actually really pleased with. I had a SEVERE bout of GI upset around mile 24ish which really slowed me down for a bit and my feet were just painful as hell for the second half. I stuck with the 4:30 pace group for the first half and then they slowly faded off into the distance (not unexpectedly.....).

All in all a fun, but physically uncomfortable day. I've pretty much decided to close the book on Full marathons. They just tend to be too physically demanding on these old (yet fun filled!!) bones. Also means that today I laid to rest the silly idea of ever doing a full IM. I think I'm just going to stick to half's there too.........

But the GOOD point is that I can now do all my events with my Lovely Luscious Bride :-D........... Because there is NO WAY in Holy Hand Grenades she will EVER do a full................

Now. Off to catch a few Z's before dinner at Sci-Fi tonight!

Have fun Warriors! Hopefully the days find you healthy and happy!

Hurray!!!! You did it Jim and in a very impressive time given the issues and lack of long run! Sorry you feel it will be the last marathon, but what an awesome final outing!

Rest up, have fun and get planning those events with your luscious bride :)

Congratulations Jim on your Marathon. I would hate for you to say "never again" for a full marathon. I'm not saying you ever have to do one again, but you never know what the future may hold. Decide what you enjoy doing and go for it.

Congrats Jim! And John!
I am GOOFY!!! I actually did ok. About a 6 min PR on the marathon despite heat and humidity.
I mostly walked the half and finished about 3:04. Around mile 10 I realized that I could pick up the pace and finish sub-3 hours but I really wanted to save myself for the full.
I started slow for the full and pulled off negative splits. I was hoping for 5:30 but it wasn't meant to be with the weather. I finished about 5:52. Very happy that I ran smart. Foot held up well although I'm away of the injury now. It doesn't really hurt though.

Amanda! You did it :) You are a goofy queen! I'm thrilled it went so well and you did such an amazing time. Brilliant news that your foot held out too, although sorry it's sore now. Time for plenty of ice and pride :goodvibes

Aaaaaah I've got permission from work to have a week off in November!!!!! You know what that means?!?! I'm coming to do the wine and dine half :) hope to see some of you there

(sorry for the excitement, but I figured you'd understand!)

Hope you guys are recovering and / or training well

Happy Inauguration Day Warriors!! (& MLK Day too!)

pretty much over the Marathon recovery period. I did 2 short hour"ish" bike rides last week + a few trips to the gym.

I have started my 1/2 IM training this week. Ugh. Soooooooooooo out of shape for that. It also means I need to start dragging my lazy a** back to the pool. Much swimming awaits. Bleh.

I did a bike/run brick today totaling about 28 miles. Not too bad, but uncomfortable going from the bike to the run. Still 4 months out though, so it's all good right now....................

BTW, Winter? That cold part of the year? Yeah, it's pretty much ignoring NE Florida so far............. Warm ride & run today. Actually shirtless for a good part of my workout just to stay cool.

Amanda --- Great job on the Goofy! I've done 2, but seriously cannot fathom ever doing it again. My fun meter just does not have enough space for that any more............

Kate - Glad to see you'll be coming across the pond for the W&D. Barring the Zombie Apocalypse, my Lovely Luscious Bride & I will be there!

Jim-keep on saying to yourself....it feels so good to get back to the training and eventually you WILL believe it.

Kate-welcome back to the States and train smart, no injuries allowed.

Amanda-:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 and next year Dopey

Jeremy-sore feet = much better than hurting knees. Put the new shoes to healthy use but be careful.

AFM-shoulder MRI = nothing much will help other than replacement....NOT

WDW Marathon Weekend, Kathy and I had a great 5K walk then Kathy walked with DD in the Half. Considering that training hardly took place they did well.

For me the Half went very well and the Full was fun plus I got my McFlurry. Third Dopey weekend in a row, looking forward to 2014. At 62.5yo I started the year being Dopey and at almost 63.5yo will finish the year with the Space Coast Half Marathon just 3 weeks after IMFL. I'll call that being a Dummy.

Monday after the Marathon was a drive home and rest day. Tuesday started my end of March 70.3 training. 24 mile bike + 1000 yd swim. Wed. was 4.5 mile walk/jog and 1100yd swim. Thursday was a wicked 55 mile bike with racing boys. Friday a 5.5 mile jog/walk/run and too cold for a swim. Saturday a 55 mile hard bike. Sunday a 11 mile walk/jog/run then 1700yd swim. Yesterday a 101 mile bike ride and today is resting.

Have to say that except for the bad shoulder, tingling and numbness in arms and hands, cramping of left foot when swimming, right side of neck always in pain, I'm having fun. Growing old is for young people but at my age I'm doing better than many.

To all, please stay healthy and train carefully.

Congratulations Amanda! I knew you were Goofy all along!
Kate~ I'm so glad you get to do the Wine and Dine! I hope your training goes well and is injury free
Jim~ good luck in the pool , I made a tri my fitness goal for the year so when Princess (and the school swimming season) is over I have to hit the pool too!
John~ sounds like you are doing great! I hope you find something that will help with the shoulders!

As for me I'm looking forward to Princess (if not the last few long runs indoors), wish we were having Spring weather instead of sub zero wind chills.

Have a great week of workouts everyone!

Pam-watch what you wish for, the weather might just turn HOT and HUMID for the Princess. Right now it's 62F and I'm cold, thinned blood ha-ha. We could get another heat wave of high 70's and low 80's. Not the best for a race but great Chamber of Commerce weather.

Best of luck. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Jim- yay I get to see you and your lovely wife! Wonderful that your training has begun for half IM (I'm supporting John's positivity drive!) it will be FANTASTIC to get back in the pool :)

Pam- ooh your first tri- you guys are amazing. Such a great thing to do and so few ppl can physically do them so I think you're all awesome!

John- argh for so much ouchiness.I know you're always magically optimistic, but I'm still sorry your shoulder's painful. That week of training was intense hey! I cant promise injury free training, sorry. I've never had injury free training for an event!

Jeremy- how are you doing? Did you manage to get some events in the diary for motivation?

Me- my flights are booked!! My parents are going out the week before, hoping to see Halloween stuff then I fly over thurs before half marathon. I really hope they don't change the date now- they emailed me from runDisney so I'm taking their word for it! Ran 8 miles on TM this morning as we still have icy snow :D

Thank you! I swear the 1/2 IM training makes the Goofy seem likes child's play!

Go you! Always impressive!!!

Very Goofy!!! I, too, am hoping for temperatures above the 11F it was this morning when I left for work. Maybe I'll see you at the Princess!

I'm starting to think about training a little for the Princess. i'm planning to make it a fun race rather than a goal race. I'm also signed up for a Half Marathon in Central Park in April. I'm hoping for a PR that race.

Amanda- you have an action packed few months ahead hey! How's your foot doing now? I'm so excited that you'll be at wine and dine too :D

I can still feel where my foot injury is/was but it isn't hurting right now. I'm avoiding speed work for now but I managed 9 miles this morning.
I can't say W&D is 100% as we're trying to be fiscally responsible this year :thumbsup2 but I think it's likely!

Howdy Warriors!!

It's frankly, a sucky day in St Augustine. We had a member of our department pass away suddenly while running 3 days ago and his funeral was today. It has been quite a difficult week for the department coping with this and Kenny's funeral proceedings were extremely difficult and emotional. About 500 people there, including all of our members not on the job today.

I've been to numerous funerals during my time here and in the Navy and usually have no problem compartmentalizing things way down deep, but for some reason today was difficult. Really. Difficult.

I guess ya' just never know what the future holds...................... Bummer.

Anywhoo.............. came home afterwards to an empty house (My LLB is in O'town this weekend with her mom and our DD visiting giraffes (No. Seriously. They ARE visiting giraffes!! ). Rather than sit here and be all mopey and sad I managed to get out of the house for an hour long bike ride.

Hopefully I'll get my lazy a** up early and do a nice brick workout and hit the weights at the gym for a while........Hopefully. That "L" word keeps creeping up a lot lately. :P

Stay safe (& healthy) Warriors!! Make sure ya' tell your loved ones that you DO love 'em!!

Jim that's really sad news. Sorry you and your co-workers are facing such a difficult time. Take the time to look after yourself over the next few days.

Melbourne (Florida!!!) Music 1/2 this morning. 2:05. 'Bout average for me.
