Chapter 5- "This Is Your Caballeros..."

July 14th, 2012

After we met Duffy, we continued on to World Showcase.

Derpin' along...
dsc00075px.jpg

dsc00076mk.jpg

Hola Mexico!

dsc08073e.jpg

Do you people have any idea how good that pavilion smells!? Just go inside and take a whiff. It smells like Disney water and delicious Mexican NOMS. It just doesn't get much better than that.

We just HAD to visit Allie's favorite Disney characters on her favorite ride: The Gran Fiesta Tour!

dsc08074ub.jpg

Happy girl. :-)

The Caballeros were calling! Allie and I ended up having an entire boat to ourselves. It would have been tré romantic under any other circumstances.

dsc080762.jpg

As we approached the pyramid and the restaurant part of the ride, some little kid was sticking his tongue out at me, so I stuck mine out right back.

Take THAT, obnoxious five-year-old.

He totally recoiled and didn't know what to make of it. SUCCESS.

We sang and danced along and totally did not keep our manos, brazos, piez y piernas inside the boat. Ah well.

RULEBREAKAZZZ.

We journeyed to Norway next, and you know what that means...

dsc08079g.jpg

MAELSTROM TIME.

Ohhh Maelstrom, how I love thee.

I don't think Allie had even been on the Maelstrom before, so she was very intrigued by my excitement. I quoted the entire thing and was super excited the WHOLE time, and she was just like, "...This is your Caballeros."

SO TRUE.

We did a nice duck and cover and ran away from the (not really) inspirational movie and headed outside.

And of course, no trip back over the falls is complete without the finishing touch that is SCHOOL BREAD.

dsc080822.jpg

I was excited.

Allie and I got a School Bread to share with our lunch.

P.S. Why are Norwegian people so attractive???

I need to move to the Scandinavian area.

Oh wait. It's too cold.

NEVERMIND.

Anyway, SPEAKING OF LUNCH, we decided that it was about time for that to take place, so back to Future World we went!

dsc08083ws.jpg

img4564ju.jpg

Still jamming to the song of her people:
dsc08084r.jpg

We knew exactly where we wanted to have lunch. Sunshine Seasons, of COURSE!

I ordered the Turkey Mozzerella Panini for my meal:
dsc08086v.jpg

Ohhh man this was good. Everything about it was really fresh, and it just hit the spot. And that potato salad it came with was much lighter than I expected. I loved it!

Allie ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken with lo mein noodles. YUM. The chicken was soo nice and flavorful and the lo mein was pretty good too! The noodles were different- more like angel hair pasta than lo mein- and Al was a tad disappointed, but they had a nice flavor and the awesomeness of the chicken definitely made up for it.

And of course, we shared our school bread for dessert:
dsc08091v.jpg

Ahhh. :worship: Who knew a pastry could make one feel so complete? This stuff is perfection. Al loves it too, so we had no problem gobbling it up. YUM.

We sat at Seasons and caught up on our trip journals for a little bit, and then went to pin trade with the CM's by Soarin'. At that point, the tour group to guest ratio was astronomically NOT in our favor, so we ducked out of there and headed to Innoventions West for a while. Once we were in there, we decided to do this video game thing where YOU are the character in your own game. It was actually really fun!

You stand in these half tanning booth things like so:
dsc08095td.jpg

And you jump, etc. when it tells you to. We were cracking up the whole time.

dsc08097r.jpg

FART. SHOES.

Next, you go over to the video game screen/area and play the game that you're in. So cool!

dsc08099l.jpg

Next, we decided it would be extremely frumpy to participate in the GREAT PIGGY BANK ADVENTURE.

That's right people. This is an actual thing.

If you haven't done it yet, what are you actually doing with your life?

It is clearly missing something.

That something is this guy:
dsc08105hd.jpg

Seriously. Do it. It's HILARIOUS.

So basically you pick an objective and then you carry the piggy bank all over the area and it teaches you about personal finances and spending wisely and such. Perfect for a couple of naive imminent college students. It even talked about inflation! Guess kids can never learn too early...

Here we are with our Piggy:
dsc081022.jpg

dsc08103c.jpg

He was a gem.

Turns out that we did really well and we totally hooked up our space (Y'all remember that That's So Raven episode? If not, GO WATCH IT.) and got a sweet new room. HOORAY!

Next up, we finally got to use our Soarin' Fastpasses! We walked back to The Land, dodging the tour groups, and got in line!

dsc08111y.jpg

dsc08120a.jpg

After our wonderful glide over California, we decided to head back to Boardwalk for some pool time!

We stopped in Canada to pin trade at the outdoor kiosks, and the Canada CM's loved our nails! They were ICP's and they were so nice! We loved them.

On the way out through International Gateway, we saw this chalk drawing in the UK:
img4571mm.jpg

WOO! Summer Olympics! The Brits really had their pride on because London was hosting! YEAH BRITS!

We got back to the Boardwalk and changed into our bathing suits. I took a picture of Allie's parents' room and their part of the bathroom because they weren't there.

dsc08127a.jpg

dsc08125f.jpg

We headed down to the pool and swam around for a little bit. We saw the lifeguards walking around and it looked like they were blessing the pool every few feet or something? Does anyone know what this is? I think it's just them checking the cleanliness every few feet.

We got out after a bit and sat oh-so-classily at the pool bar, where we got smoothies. While we were sitting there, there must have been a little accident or something because they closed the pool. Awk. A stray duck still got to swim though.

We went us to the room after a while and changed for dinner. I sat on the balcony and talked to Jess on the phone before she went to work.

Pretty soon we walked downstair, out to the car, and drove over to Fort Wilderness! We parked and waited for a Disney bus to take us over to Pioneer Hall. WOO!

We love Phineas and Ferb at my house. I hope the topiary's are still up for the Flower and Garden Festival!

I hope they'll be out for you guys!

I don't know which picture is funnier(is that a word?:))-"Dude in short shorts" or "princessallie face" on SE!!!!;):)

I'll go with "Dude in short shorts" since that was a creeper pic-those are always the best.;):)

When isn't it a good time to watch Rome burn!?!:)

I am going to take a wild guess and say your least fav attraction at WDW is "Flights of Wonder"!:)

I totally agree. :thumbsup2

Never! It's always fun.

YES! You are absolutely right! I avoid it like the plague.

Thanks again for all the time you put into your TRs!:)

I had a ROUGH, and I mean R-O-U-G-H day and it is so wonderful to be able to come here to The DIS and read fun TRs like yours and cruise the TPAS Board and escape reality for a while since we all can't LIVE AT THE WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT like 508!!!!:)

Keep up the great TRing! It is appreciated:)

You are so welcome! Thanks for reading!

I'm so glad this cheered you up! Ahhh I know she's so lucky! I can't WAIT to do my DCP!

I will! Thanks! :)

Lmao!! The tiny shorts and shiny legs....too funny! Thanks for the info on pin trading....I may have to do this on the next trip, I think my kiddos would love it!! I just leaned of the International Gateway on our last trip....trying to find the restrooms, lol!

Hahaha I know right!?

You are so welcome! It's definitely really fun for kids!

Ah yes, that'll do it. Well now that you know, it's just a whole new world!

Chapter 6- "Let's Raise the Roof Inside the Hoop-De-Doo!" Part 1

July 14th, 2012

We saw some Disney buses go by...
dsc08143e.jpg

And pretty soon one came for us! YAY we were on our way!

dsc08146y.jpg

We arrived at Pioneer Hall and checked in for the (now nonexistent- the times changed) 7:15 P.M. HOOP-DE-DOO MUSICAL REVUE.

Hoop-de-Doo is my favorite thing. EVER. It's so wonderfully frumpy, delicious and just PERFECT. I will never not love it.

Sharon had to take pictures of us, of course.

img28542.jpg

img28562.jpg

Allie and I went to explore the merchandise kiosk by Pioneer Hall, and we found a most awesome Chippy shirt:
img2857o.jpg

Truly fabulous.

They're making S'MORES.

You can't not love it.

Allie also found a "Pinned ya again!" pin with Simba and Nala on it, and she loved it/was freaking out, so she bought it. I love pin puns!

Two of the most wonderful people in the world:
img2858je.jpg

Pretty soon the dinner bell was a-ringin' and we were hustlin' inside.

We had Category 1 seating, so we were super close to the stage! YAY!

img28602.jpg

img2863z.jpg

There was conbread and salad waiting for us, so we ordered drinks and dug right in!

dsc08149i.jpg

OH. MY. LORD. This is seriously the best cornbread you will ever eat. SO moist and addicting. I couldn't get enough.

dsc08153e.jpg

TIN PLATES.

So perfect.

dsc08155ge.jpg

I also had myself LOTS of salad, as it was one of the best salads I've ever had! It was seriously SO good! I was really surprised and very pleased. It was fresh and delicious.

Happy Units:
dsc08159f.jpg

Pretty soon we were brought a bucket of fried chicken and ribs!
dsc08164f.jpg

YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM. That stuff is THE BEST fried chicken in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE. SO GOOD. The ribs were really good too! The sauce was smoky and delish.

We were also brought cowboy (or baked) beans:
dsc08166u.jpg

These were great! The smoky flavor carried over into these and I liked them a lot.

The last two items were corn and mashed potatoes:
dsc08167y.jpg

dsc08168vu.jpg

YUM! Who doesn't love this stuff!? They were awesome!

The show began as we received all this food, but I figured it best to report on them separately so as not to confuse y'all...and me. :P

Up next, the best show you will ever see and some freaking AWESOME dessert!

Chapter 6- "Let's Raise the Roof Inside the Hoop-De-Doo!" Part 2

July 14th, 2012

On with the show!

img2864p.jpg

From left to right, that's Six Bits, Claire de Lune and Johnny Ringo.

Johnny Ringo was sooo cute. Allie thought he was flirting with me. I HOPE SO. :lovestruc

Claire de Lune was HILARIOUS. She is definitely who I would want to be if I were in this show (which I'd absolutely LOVE to be, especially because a lot of the characters in this also are in the TROLLEY SHOW. EEEEEP DREAM. JOB.)

Her laugh was insanely awesome and I often try to perfect it, just in case. It's fantastic.

Six Bits was definitely the crowd pleaser:
dsc00080eh.jpg

My spirit girl, Miss Claire de Lune!
dsc00081vu.jpg

The napkin waving ensued. Al and I got REAL into it:
img28652.jpg

img28662.jpg

img28672.jpg

img28692.jpg

Such tunes were sung as "Oh my darlin', oh my darlin', oh my darlin' Clementine. She was lost and gone foreverrrrrr, oh my darlin' Clementine." and "Davyyyy, Davy Crocket, king of the wild frontier." There were sing offs, sing alongs, and some bear puns by good ol' Six Bits. It was all so fantastic.

img28792.jpg

img28802.jpg

img28822.jpg

What was next. Please excuse me while I get my BEAR-ings.

Ba dum tssss.

Ah yes. The washboard scrapin' was next!

img28842.jpg

(We're not drunk, I swear.)

I'm pretty sure I'm mid "Fart Shoes" in this next one...
img28882.jpg

So much priceless in one picture. Thanks, Sharon! :thumbsup2

We concluded the show with some guest stars from the audience, a reprise of the new Hoop-de-Doo song (which is in the chapter title), and of course, this:
dsc08184r.jpg

OHHH the strawberry shortcake. Sorry about the quality, but the lighting was really weird at that point. Never fear though, Kristen received a Nikon D3200 for Christmas so her Disney pictures can only improve from the dear point and shoot.

Anyways, deviating from the third person...

OH MAN was this good. The strawberry sauce around the shortcake was beyond scrumptious, and the shortcake itself was moist and so yummy. I loved it!

VERDICT: If you have not gone to Hoop-De-Doo yet, and you love corny jokes, good American food, and laughing your buns off, then GO. Seriously. It is my favorite Disney restaurant and possibly my favorite Disney experience. I love it. It's Frump Approved.©

We finished up, the show ended and we said goodbye to our beloved Hoop-De-Doo. We found our way by bus back to where we parked, and were planning on playing mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens. However, when the Units dropped Al & I off there, the wait was REALLY long. Like 45 minutes. Uhh...no. So, we decided to take a leisurely stroll back to the Boardwalk via the Swan & Dolphin.

I have so much more respect for these resorts now because the ambience there is just SO cool at night. The different colored lighting was so cool and the buildings looked especially amazing to me. Plus, there were people playing glow-in-the-dark volleyball to quite an awesome mix of songs. It looked really fun!

We made it back to the Boardwalk and decided to look around Thimble & Threads, or the giant gift shop down on the Boardwalk. We pin traded in there and I met a CM from Lille, France. I texted Dave to tell him about it because he lived in Lille for three years. He thought it was so cool!

We headed up to the room after a bit and took showers. I hung out on the balcony and talked to my friend Ben on the phone for a little bit. It was really nice to catch up! He didn't know I was in Disney until I told him, but he wasn't surprised.

They all just assume now. :P

After a while I said goodnight and headed in to bed. We had a big day of Disney fun ahead of us!

Love the updates! (However, my ADD kicks in and now I can't remember all that I wanted to comment on from 3 reviews back!!)

Duffy is adorable but I feel bad that I gave him a hard time the first time we posed with him... I didn't know who he was so I said "who are you?" he pointed to his hat that had his name and I said, I know your name but who ARE you? (In my defense, He didn't have a movie or TV show so how was I to know.) :confused3 His reaction was funny! I'm such trouble sometimes!

School bread... still on my wish list of things to try. I totally trust that you won't steer me wrong with recommending this yummy treat! :upsidedow

Your HDD meal looks soooo good! salad, chicken, ribs, corn, mashed potatoes, cornbread, strawberry shortcake - what's not to love about all of that!! And Brenda thinks that Kristen's photos are awesome. (had to slip in a 3rd person response since I so want to be you!) :lmao:

That Hoop Dee Doo looks amazing! I love shows like that. I'm a vegetarian though, so I'd have to see if they have other food somewhere for me but if so I think I will need to book this for the next trip! Also, I love your TR writing style. I'm a frump fan. :)

Yay! Cant believe I found Frump reports ..I love your youtube vids! Subbing in..

Hi Kristin! Just stopping by to say I'm in (again)! Your pics from Epcot are all gorgeous, and how exciting that you got a new camera for Christmas! :goodvibes

On another note, I'm suddenly feeling really nostalgic for That's So Raven (Disney Channel used to be so good!) and Hoop-De-Doo. Plus, although I've never been a huge fan of school bread (my favorite snack at Kringla has always been (will always be) the rice cream), I always want to try school bread again whenever I see it in your reviews. :thumbsup2

WDW!!!!!

Pin trading is the best thing ever. HOW I LOVE THEEEEEE.

I have never stayed at the boardwalk. WHY?! I mean, IT’S AN EPCOT RESORT, and it’s beautiful. I wonder about myself sometimes.

That tea cup lamp is amazing. I want one.

CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS. I could seriously eat one of those every single day of my life. SO GOOD.

I love how you took a picture of that guy with those shorts. :lmao: They are very short!

Duffy is like the most adorable thing ever.

That picture of your school bread is awesome. NOMS.

And now I’m hungry…

I totally remember the Hook up my Space episode! Perfection. Pure perfection.

When I saw the words “Pioneer Hall” I basically jumped up and down with glee.

The Chip and Dale shirt. OMG. I NEED.

THAT FOOD. HOLY CRAP DELICIOUSNESS.

Just noticed Allie’s Mr. Pricklepants pin. I NEED THAT OMG.

catching up

The hotel room looks fab.

I think Allie was right as well 14th July is Bastille Day as far as I know. It was some sort of big war day in French History I dunno much else about it either though:confused3

The wall of pillow pets  THEY HAVE BULLSEYE PILLOW PETS NOW?? How am I meant to choose one when they keep adding more choices :goodvibes
