Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Three --- NOW FULL / CLOSED

I was going through online check-in today and noticed that one of the options for room preference is "water view".

Odd, I didn't get that option when I tried it. The only room category that should really have that as optional at POR would be a King Bed room. Otherwise, I can't see why Disney would have included it when it's a paid booking category.

What does seem odd to me is that there is no request button for Magnolia Bend vs. Alligator Bayou, which must surely be one of the most common non-category requests at POR.

Just upgraded to a RGR at POR with a river view!
Do any of these rooms have a view of the POR water tower and/or the main building? Does anyone have pics of river view rooms from Parterre Place or Oak Manor?

TIA!

Just checking back in to thank everyone on this thread and on Portorleans.org!

We arrived on 1/8 and checked in to a standard Royal room. We were assigned 9206 in Oak Manor. Our immediate view out the window was the wall of the room across the walkway - we were on a "turn." Two steps to the right and we had the garden view! The other rooms around us were water or garden view. I will say that if I had paid for a garden view and got the ones in the back of Oak Manor around us (9207-9212 or so), I'd be really annoyed. Yes, they overlook the garden, but also overlook the parking lot.

But our room was perfect. Beautiful, comfortable, convenient. Loved it! I would definitely stay there again.

I could do without the Royal theme, but I don't really like the AB theming. So if we book here again (which I certainly would!), it'll be Royal to guarantee a manor room.

I did have a bounceback and decided to try POFQ next time. At least it's all in the family!

The northern wing section of Oak Manor should give you that sort of view, yes. See the map in the first post, and/or Google Earth satellite views.

My avatar pic is from outside our door one floor down at Parterre Place. We overlooked the garden, fountain, and river. We were in the center of the building next to the elevator on the 3rd floor.
There is a lot of foliage and a large hedge so you may not get a full view of the main building area from rooms that are closer to the river.

Inquiring mind about the POFQ bounce back...do you recall the percentage off?

Thanks for the review!

We are staying at POR March 6-10. I was going through online check-in today and noticed that one of the options for room preference is "water view". Since pool view and river view are their own room categories when booking (with an extra cost), why would water view be a preference option in online check-in? Is this for swamp or fountain view rooms? Any experience with this?
Just curious...

We had this same option come up yesterday when I did online check-in and was curious why it was an option since you usually have to pay extra for water view. I did appreciate having the option of selecting top floor or ground floor, and corner room, but the water view confused me a little. :confused3

Glad I'm not the only one... We paid for garden view (standard not available with our discount), but maybe being close to the pool would be nice.

So excited.....ten more days and we'll be in Disneyworld:yay:

We're staying at POR in a royal room. Starting my packing tomorrow, and can't wait to get away from snow, wind and frigid temps....as long as it doesn't snow, we'll enjoy the warm temps!

I really have enjoyed reading this thread, and getting the tips and pointers everyone shares.

I received an email to offer online check in - is this recommended? Can I still do this before I send in my official room request?

Oh, and we got our magical express envelope yesterday:cloud9:

10 more sleeps for us too :)
And we got our ME package on Friday as well!!!
Really looking forward to our first family trip to WDW......told DH that he may be going home solo and i will stay a while longer with the kids!!!

Hmmm.. I did my online check in the other day and just checked it again. I don't get any options for room requests at all. The spot is there but there is nothing to add.
If I decide something is of utmost importance I will add one, but we're in a Standard Royal Room so I already know it's parking lot view, and I'm not really picky about which mansion we are in because both are in what I would consider reasonable walking distance to the main building. So I guess I am fine either way:)

We are getting so excited for this trip we can hardly stand it. It's only a month away but feels like an eternity right now!

I did the online check in last week and didn't get any room options, either. I am hoping for a good room, but knowing that we will be there during a busy time (Presidents Day week), I know the resort will be pretty full and we may have to make due with a less desirable room. We were there last year around the same time and were in AB 25, which wasn't too bad.

The last time we were at POR we didn't make any requests and ended up in building 14, with a river view on the second floor in a corner room! I was so excited! But it was a slow time and the year before they added the multitudes of booking categories so we just lucked out I guess. The only rooms I wouldn't want would be way at the back of the resort because we like to be close to the main building for the food court etc. If you don't like the room you are assigned I am sure you could ask nicely if there is something else, or maybe fax in a request before you go? Worth a shot:)

I haven't posted here in a while but can't contain my excitement. Will be in POR in 5 days! This trip is a Christmas gift for my mom. Staying in a Riverview Royal room. Super excited! Woo hoo!

Does POR have a gym/workout area? I know we have a lot of dining reservations, just wondering if there was a treadmill or eliptical?

We're leaving tomorrow!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cheer2::cheer2::earsboy:

We're not finished packing (or even close, really), but considering we're usually rushing to pack at the last minute, I feel like we're doing OK. I plan to have the car all packed tonight, so all we have to do in the morning is get the kids dressed, feed them, strap them in and go!

Have a wonderful time!!

Your official room request should really be in your original booking, but I assume you're asking whether you can do online checkin before sending an additional faxed request? If so then yes, no problem, do online as soon as you like and then fax 3-5 days before arrival.

No, sorry. Better cut down on those dining reservations eh? :) There is a nice jogging route around the resort though, people tend to use that early in the morning.

10 more sleeps for us too! I was getting worried about our ME package, but hopefully we will get it Monday.

Is it a lot faster if we do online checkin? As for room requests, we will be in AB garden view. I'm thinking bldg 16 or 17 would be most convient to everything. What about 38? Is it much farther of a walk to go across the bridge to the food court? We don't have any issues with walking, but would be nice to be somewhere with easier access to everything.

I'm not sure why any one would want to jog on a treadmill or use an elliptical at POR unless it's raining. The jogging path is such a beautiful route even I went for an early brisk walk a couple of mornings.
