~Snowbird Chat 2~

Hey all! Checking in from Disney since I can't go to bed! We found a urging stain on our bedspread (still smelly so obviously not washed, and NOT OURS)! I've already spent two nights in this bed. Ick! Three phone calls later we have fresh sheets, not spread, and we were told someone would be coming to fix up the bed, and we haven't seen anyone. It's almost midnight and I'm freaking exhausted.

Anyway....I finished the 1/2 marathon!! It wasn't pretty, and I had to walk the last half because my knee was killing me, but Andy and I crosses the finish together! Running thru MK and Epcot was AMAZING!!

Andy just marched his butt to the front desk to hopefully get the bed issue resolved, so well see. Other than that, I love POR, and think I'm hooked on this over Pop.

I hope he got it sorted! Congrats on finishing! POR is lovely!

We're heading down next week - 10 more days!

I'm back in WI. I hate it here.

Seriously, hate it. I realized today that I have nothing holding me here. I have my goddaughter, whom I speak to at least every other day, so her mother told me that if I move that just gives her an excuse to travel!

So I'm updating my resume and seriously looking at jobs. I'm starting in FL, because really that would be the greatest, however I'm also considering Arizona. I'm going to try and remain optimistic about this because it is something I want. I just need to pray that it's God's timing too.

Have a great week everyone!

That is so exciting!! Did you apply at Disney? That would really be fun!!! I will be praying for you that you get exactly what/where/when is perfect for you!! God knows what you need!!

I am proud of you! I doubt I would have made it! LOL!!! That's a long way!! And grody on the bed situation! Hopefully they fixed it and you can enjoy the rest of the trip!

I'm sure you will find what is right for you! Good luck!
I saw your post on FB and wondered...

Okay - gross on the bed! I hope they fixed it!
Congrats on the 1/2! I bet it would be fun to run through the parks like that. (assuming I liked to run!). POR is a great resort! I don't know how much longer you're there, but I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

We've always gotten out if not by Memorial Day, the week of (both Kansas and Georgia).

So, I was pretty bummed for a few weeks to the point of not wanting to plan anything. Too many disappointments.
I feel a lot better now though, and this morning I saw a deal in my inbox through Papa John's pizza. If we order a specific deal 15 times within a 20 week period we would get a voucher for 3 nights in a resort in the Caribbean. Well, I started looking into it, and since airfare and food are so expensive and we would want to stay a bit longer, it would probably end up being at least as expensive as a trip to Disney.

Anyways, so I've officially started planning for April. Logan still has to apply for the leave, but we're looking at 7 nights, probably staying at Port Orleans - French Quarter.:woohoo:
I'm checking to see whether my little sister coming with us is an option, because that will determine which week we go. My idea is that she pays for her own transportation and her ticket and we pay for her accommodations and food in exchange for some babysitting.

Becca,...that sounds like a plan!!!!

Does anyone know why so many dates for the Cont are showing unavailable? I have looked at jan/feb,.May, and Nov and every date I put in is showing that I can't book it!! I know they are a large conf center and often have some sold out dates, but that is strange...
Do any of you buy your Theme Park tickets from other places than directly through Disney? Just trying to see what is going to be our best bet next time...dd will be 10 in April and I probably won't do the Dining plan this time. I want to start saving $$$ for dining/snacks now. I figured if we go back in Nov again we have exactly 10 months. The Dining plan last time was around $1400..but we got free dining..if I don't do the dining plan and we end up getting a great discount on a room that would pan out so much better!! I can have the figures more accurately decided later, but if I figure in $1400, I will only have to put back about $35-40 a week.....and if it ends up that we were offered FD and no room discount, that could just go to our theme park tickets....
So, all that to say, I am just curious if any of you go about booking this way....and what are your experiences with it...

I have bought our tix through Undercover Tourist the last 2 trips. Saves roughly $100 for the 4 of us.

We don't do the DDP since the boys are considered adults now. Like you said, it would cost like $1400. :faint: We pay OOP and usually spend about half of that. So taking a room discount (if staying deluxe) is definitely a better savings for us!

Same here. We used UT and saved a bit. We stopped doing DDP and LOVED it! The freedom is worth it. I can't say for sure how much $ we saved (or spent yet - I'll go through my receipts for the October TR yet to come). But I liked it a lot better. For us it works b/c a) with DVC we don't buy packages and b) Sarah is technically an adult, but eats like a child. Plus we went during F&W, and did a lot of grazing around World Showcase. There would not have been enough snack credits for us there!!

Well, if we weren't on the DDP, It would be easier for me~ I don't always want a full meal,..sometimes I just want the salad that's an app and I don't like a dessert as the option...and as for snack credits, we always have lots left over...I would rather get tix from UT, and do a club level room so we can have the access for breakfast's everyday...plus the kids would rather have milk and cookies at night ...

Sounds like you would be better off without the DDP then. Especially if you are doing CL. And I'm like you, sometimes an appetizer is my meal. And I'd rather have a snack/dessert a few hours after dinner. Not at dinner.

It is so freeing without the DDP!! ::yes::

It used to be the better deal, but not so much anymore...and places like the 50s prime time, she and I could split a plate! I never eat all that food!!!!!

I agree. It was a good deal, once upon a time. Not so much now.

Yeah, DS11 and I can even share CS meals sometimes. A lot of times the portions are just way bigger than I would normally eat. And when you are paying OOP you can share and the kids can order off the children's menu (at most places) even if they are 10 or older and no one cares!

Good to know!! I wasn't sure if they would let her order off that menu or not if she would rather...That was the next question! LOL!

Heck, they let adults order off the kid menu!

We did a lot of sharing this last trip - 3 meals fed all four of us, sometimes only 2 meals!

I order off the kids menu!! My sister and I also split meals. Depending on where we are, lets say just one of the burger places, we order 1 double cheeseburger with an extra bun. We also have water bottles so no need for drinks, and we split the fries. So we pay around $5 a person.

You can definitely split, share, order off the kids menu, etc. at all the CS places. And the only TS places I have heard of that will give you a hard time about it (and will force your 10 year old to order from the adult menu) are the 2 TS restaurants in Mexico and the Plaza Restaurant at MK. So we tend to steer clear of those places!

It looks very promising, so I'm getting excited! My little sister sounded excited about it too, and my parents are helping to foot her bill.

Food is turning out to be more complicated than I thought it would be. I truly thought that I wouldn't be able to get a lot of places I wanted, so I thought I'd be content only booking 3 or 4 table service for the whole trip, but weird things are popping up. Ohana, for instance, had 3 different seating times for the evening I wanted to go.
No Be Our Guest, but I think I can make my peace with that, as long as we can get in for lunch, especially since it seems the only huge difference is the alcohol, which isn't a draw for us.

Does anyone know if they suddenly started allowing the Wanyama Safari for non-AKL guests? It keeps popping up on my searches, and I wanted to surprise Logan with something, since we'll be bringing along a babysitter. I'm already planning a night in a separate hotel, but I thought at least another evening out would be fun. Right now I have Victoria & Albert's booked for us (another surprise find) but I'm not sure if that's the best place to put our money since it's supposed to be a surprise for Logan.
He always takes a million pictures on KS, so I think he might prefer the animals over V&A. It also might be fun to go back to AKL, since that's where we honeymooned.

Another exciting find was that Universal is running a promotion where active duty military get a free three day ticket. My little sister LOVES Harry Potter, and we hadn't really considered going before due to the added cost, but since my sister would pay for her own ticket, it will only be around $90 extra plus a rental car.

I just have to be careful about getting carried away and planning too much.
My biggest dilemma is whether or not to book a character meal with Gideon. He's familiar with the characters, but I think the size would terrify him.

Just thought I'd check in to say Hi! Sorting here waiting for the bus to Epcot and my kids are driving me a little nuts so I'm trying to ignore them. ;)
We stayed at POR this trip and i think it's now made me a resort snob. I love it here and I'm not sure I'll be able to go back to Pop. The made to order pasta and salads are awesome! We've enjoyed the pool and slide (and a late night in the hot tub with the beverages while my MIL and niece stayed with the kids). We got to see a little of Yee Ha Bob last night, but it was so crazy busy we had to hang around an stalk for a awhile before we could sit, and it wasn't in the actual lounge part.

We've tried some new places to eat:
Raglan Road, TH dinner, and CRT breakfast, all I which were awesome. The only minor disappointment in food was the major shrinkage of the fish at Yorkshire. ;) after a few grey goose slushes, I Forgot I was still hungry. Haha!

Hope you all are having a fabulous Friday. We're back home tomorrow evening. Booooooo!!! Wondering if we should book the bounce back for 30% off. I wish they had 2014 dates though.

Yes girl!! Book it!! They didnt have one offered the last couple of times for us....
I am curious to stay there...my hubby likes the proximity for the Deluxes, but I would sure like to save some $$$!
