We'll be there then too, same dates! We requested a mansion room (pd for WV, but 2nd guessing that) so we'll see. AB would be OK too for the trundle, but I know DS and DD would fight over it, LOL. Can't wait! Are you on the Oct code watch thread? If nothing else, you should check into a AAA RO discount. We have 15% off for now, but hoping for a better deal or possibly FD. :)

Last time we stayed at POR, we were in the Acadian house. Beautiful! I'm excited to be in AB for the first time. I am on the oct code watch thread :). I'm crossing my fingers for FD!! I should call and get the AAA discount - I always forget about it because only my DH has AAA. Maybe a pin code will come my way.

We just stayed for the first time at POR in an Alligator Bayou room for one night before moving to our DVC villa. What a delightful resort! I did measure the "murphy bed" and the mattress is 5.5' by 2.5'.

If we decide to sell our DVC points, we could easily stay at POR. Walking around the resort the next morning was so pleasant.

We'll be there the same days too! Crazy! We're garden view, requested mansions (Magnolia Terrace specifically). Maybe we'll see you all there!

Thank you to all of the people who have written these informative posts!

We are excited to be heading back to POR in 5 weeks. Haven't stayed at POR since 2005, and while we have stayed at many of the resorts, this one has always held a special place for us. I can't put my finger on why we liked it so much, but does it really matter? We've stayed at the Boardwalk the last two visits, and since we did the Disney Cruise last year(Fantasy 2nd sailing), we had to dial the budget back this year.

We decided to upgrade to the preferred location, because we like to refill our mugs too often...

WOW...FINALLY got through all the posts! Thank you EVERYONE for your great information. We are arriving at POR for our very first on-site stay May 31-June8. I am so excited and reading through this thread keeps my desire to be there in check! I have learned a lot and originally I figured I would just stick with my Standard RGR with no requests, but I just might make a couple requests when we get closer.

Looking forward to our trip and in the meantime, I will be living through all of you!!

Personally with the Royal Rooms I would suggest asking for WHAT you want rather than WHERE. For example, in general terms Oak Manor is probably overall the better building in terms of ease of access for most of the facilities/etc, but arguably the best rooms of all for access to the South Depot and the main building would probably be in the northern wing of Parterre Place (see the maps). So if you asked for Oak then you have removed the possibility of them assigning you a pretty perfect room in Parterre, should one be free. Does that makes sense?

So I'd suggest letting them know what you want (e.g. close proximity to main building and to the main bus stop) rather than asking for Oak Manor per se.

Andre

[I'm busy for a day and suddenly we've added about four more pages here... phew!]

Thank you so much! That makes complete sense, and is part of what was making me hesitate in making a request. Are the further out Parterre rooms really that far from the main area? I doubt we'll use the pool that much, so I'm mainly concerned about being close to the food court/shops/boat dock and the main area. We'll most likely be using the South Depot the most due to stopping for coffee/snacks/etc as we come and go from the parks. We currently have a Royal Garden View booked, and I guess the biggest thing to me is being on the river side of the building. I know this probably sounds totally silly, but the times I've been in other resorts and have been on the parking lot side I felt like I was left out of something... that probably sounds silly, but it feels more "included" and like you're part of the resort to be on the side facing everything.

Andre, I thought that was going to be our little secret ;). I made note of this when you mentioned it some months ago. We've booked Royal Room Riveriew and requested close to South Depot as our first request. In the fax I plan to send 4 days before our arrival I'm explaining my reasons for that and also for the second & third portions of our request. Now that we're 5 weeks away from our first stay at POR I am super excited!

Thanks for letting Andre share your little secret with me ;) Let me know how your requests work out since you're going a few months before us :thumbsup2

I've never rented a car at Disney before, and have always been happy with the bus service at the various resorts we've stayed at, but for some reason a niggle in my brain keeps pushing me to consider it... We'll be going the 3rd week in April if that matters. Anyway, I figure the best thing to do is to ask the experts... so POR experts...especially those that do rent cars... do you think it's worth the expense?

I wouldn't call myself a POR expert by any means but we stayed there last month and we ha a rental. It was our second trip to Disney and te first trip we just used busses. I was fine with buses but Dh wanted to try a rental.

I loved having the rental. It was a breeze getting from the airport to POR and back and forth to the parks. We stopped at a local grocery store and were able to pick up breakfast items to keep in the room. It was just nice after a long day at the parks to hop in a quiet car instead of another line. We were also able to travel with extras like jackets and snacks easier because we could just load them into the stroller when we got out of the car. I found a deal in a full size with taxes for $125 for a week. We took the buses once all week and we both agreed the rental car is the way to go.

If it's just me and my DD we don't rent a car, we'd prefer to let Disney do all our driving and with just the 2 of us we're happy with that.

When my Husband and DS go we get a rental. Partly because he likes to make a trip to Bass Pro Shop when in Florida (don't have any near us) and partly because we have more dining reservations. The car comes in really handy to go directly to other resorts instead of bus hopping - also to Downtown Disney where we always seem to have a long wait for the bus. We find it is worth it in time savings and the stop of at the grocery for snacks.
We don't drive to every park every day, but we definitely take the bus to MK whenever we go.

Good Luck! :)

looking to book POR for our next vacation. we are a family of 5 traveling next trip, and not sure if it would work to do one or two rooms. kids will be 11, 15,16 when we travel. any thoughts or is it just better to do 2 rooms. due to a situation on our last trip, we will however have 2 rooms for 2 nights that are comped for us(not sure to turn them into to 1 room for 4nights or jsut stay with 2 rooms and enjoy the space).

I would stick with 2 rooms.

This is what we do also. We love it.

Hello! I am looking into Riverside for our next trip, and I was wondering if there is any way to increase the odds that we get a room with a murphy bed? We are a family of 3, but we don't sleep well if we share beds. I know, silly problem, right? We've been staying at deluxes to fix that, but we are planning a quick trip, and wanted to budget. Any advice on getting a murphy bed? Or, do they have rollaway beds for the regular rooms?

We have only stayed at CSR and CR. This will be our first stay at POR in the royal guest room and we are so excited!!! However I need a little help. We will be there the week of Feb 9-16. My son is on the autism spectrum and when we stay at a hotel we have to ride the elevator up to our room. It may sound silly but to him it is huge issue and he won't be able to get past it so better to plan ahead. I do not know the set up for this resort but for the Royal guest rooms how should I put in a room request just say need to be on the top floor with elevator access? We don't need to be close to the elevator but I don't want to be put on the top floor where there isn't a elevator so didn't know if there was anything more specific I should say. Also we don't care about location we will have our own vehicle so the bus stop doesn't matter we just need to have to ride an elevator to our floor :goodvibes TIA

Book a preferred room, I believe with 98% certainty all preferred locations are in the AB section.

Yes all preferred rooms are in buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27. 14 and 27 will have views of the river 18 will have a few river viewing rooms. 15, and 18 have garden and parking lot views.

We are 30 days out from our trip to POR Feb 7-13. We are booked with the S/P/D promotion in a standard room, with a request for AB section ( family of 4, but DDs hate sharing a bed, DD8 usually sleeps in sleeping bag on floor by request at other hotels for short stays). It will be oldest DD's 10th birthday on the 12th, and wondering if there's a chance to maybe upgrade to Royal Room when we check in(not wanting a free upgrade, but wondering if possible to see if any are available and pay the difference, depending on what it is). But that would also mean they'd have to share a bed, unless we can make a makeshift bed on the floor with blankets, etc? (ick, I'm thinking!!). Thoughts? Should we just stick with what we've got?

Actually, you are 100% correct! The only preferred rooms are in AB, where all of the murphy beds are! :thumbsup2

I thought so but was worried something had slipped past me! :-)

3 more weeks until our 3rd trip to POR in the last 18 months (we also stayed at CSR once in between)! Can't wait to go "home" again!

Are the further out Parterre rooms really that far from the main area?

The rooms on the far side, facing the woods area, can be a bit of a trek - even though the absolute furthest you can be is about 500 yards away from the food court door. After a long day at the park with tired feet, that can seem like a lot more though.

so POR experts...especially those that do rent cars... do you think it's worth the expense?

Personally, we always rent a car. Mostly for off-site stuff like shopping trips, but it's also much easier for getting to the other WDW resort hotels for meals/etc. For the parks, we almost always use Disney buses for the MK, and it varies for the other parks depending on how we feel, time of day, etc. It's nice to have the option. However for the parks only, and if you are arriving by DME, then the extra expense probably isn't worth it.

Any advice on getting a murphy bed? Or, do they have rollaway beds for the regular rooms?

As has been said, just book Preferred Location, which will give you an Alligator Bayou room in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27 - and all of the AB rooms have the fold-down beds. There are no other roll-away beds available any more.

Yes all preferred rooms are in buildings 14, 16, 18 and 27. 14 and 27 will have views of the river 18 will have a few river viewing rooms. 16, and 18 have garden and parking lot views.

16 is not preferred (typo I assume, I keep trying to type '28' for some reason). Also 'Preferred' bookings will not normally give a river or pool view room (these come under River and Water categories), just standard or garden. There are technically no River View rooms in building 18 anyway due to its orientation, but as it is still right next to the river some of the garden view corner rooms do give a nice outlook of the river from the second window.

My son is on the autism spectrum and when we stay at a hotel we have to ride the elevator up to our room. It may sound silly but to him it is huge issue and he won't be able to get past it so better to plan ahead.

Both of the Royal Guest Room mansion buildings have elevators, which are located in the central three-story part of the building. If you request a third-floor room you will automatically be fairly near to the elevators as the third floor is quite small. It might be worth contacting the Special Assistance line in advance if this is going to be a major issue for you, but I'd have thought that a short fax to the resort 3-5 days before arrival explaining your reasons would also get to exactly what you need.

We just returned from our trip to Disney on Dec. 23rd and I anxiously began planning on next trip. We stayed at AoA (our first onsite since we own at Bonnett Creek) and we were planning on staying at AoA again but in one of the suites. Honestly we don't need a suite but we loved the resort so much we were willing to pay the price for one and have a bit of extra room. However, I got to looking into POR and a few other moderates and I just love the Royal Guest Room themes here. So I think to broaden our onsite visit we are going to stay at POR, we can always stay at AoA on our next trip.

That being said I want to put in a few request when I book, my DD 3 hated the walk from the LM section to the lobby at AoA. Which building can I request at POR with the Royal Guest Room theme that's not such a hard walk on her (and us after a long day at the park)?

Also how good is the food at the food court, AoA was great and had lots of different varieties of food? I did note that POR wasn't nearly as diverse in their food court choices which is ok as long the food is still great. We do have a free day at the resort so we can just resort hop and go eat at AoA if need be.
