No more room keys or park tickets to keep up with - enter Magicband

I read it & couldn't find WHEN this will all begin. We arrive at Riverside in late April!

Interesting technology, but not "cool" for everyone. Instead of being able to slide a key card in with my ID (something I always have on me), I now have to find a way to carry a band. A card is slim and fits in many places. The band is going to be bulky in a pocket of an outfit, which I rarely have, or a small slim bag. Plus, it will be easier to forget to grab in the mornings before going to the parks. I think I read somewhere that non-resort guests would have an enhansed card that was a "touch" card like the bands. If they offer those as an option, then I might be okay.

Although, on the plus side, this might be an opportunity for me to come up with an ingenious device that will replace the lanyard for those like me that do not wear lanyards or things on our wrists. I know many parents are not likely going to trust their younger kids with the bands and they may not want to have to wear multiple bands.

The above is really just my main issue with the bands as with the way the test was done and the rumors of the way these will work, I will mostly use them as a room and ticket key.

I like the idea of the bands, less things for me to have to keep track of and I no longer have to be pulling a card out while trying to juggle bags and bottles and baby and all that good stuff

I can't wait for this to happen. I took my daughter to Great Wolf Lodge before Christmas and we loved having our room "key" and charging privileges on our waterpark wristband.

It's interesting because i read an article about 3 years ago on hos Disney was dreaming up the wristband idea and even characters would be able to greet you by name after scanning the wristband at meet and greets. The bracelet would act as your room key, park ticket, and CMs can even tell how often you've been to Disney, what parks on what days, etc.. It's cool that they are now finalizing all of this and it will come to life.

Also in the article it spoke about his Disney would be creating more interactive queues which an example of this now is the new Dumbo play area queue!

We just returned from Disney World Sunday evening and they were testing something at the entrance to the parks. They weren't testing the bracelets but there were special machines scanning your room keys if you park passes were attached to the room key. I couldn't enter this line since we are AP holders but it seems like they are getting ready for the launch.

I never had a problem keeping up with my AP and room keys.

I may have a problem keeping up with a bracelet that I won't wear. I guess I'll hang it from my lanyard or just tuck it into my park bag on the keychain clip.

AFAIK, if you choose, you will still be able to use a "card" with the RFID chip in it/on it.

Isn't this cool :smokin:

Seems Disney yesterday gave a peak at the future of how you will do things in the future. No more room keys to keep track of, no more park tickets to lose, no more fastpasses to keep up with. With the Magicband you will be able to do it all and even pay for things.

Times, they are a changin'
~Yes! It's super cool!!! :yay: Thanks for the article, I really liked how they outlined the evolution of the Disney guest experience. I was just thinking about that, lol! :goodvibes

~Unfortunately, we don't know yet. Rumors are ranging anywhere from February to March. I'm thinking June or later, so we'll see. :goodvibes

~I totally agree! Thankfully, we're done with baby bags & bottles, but I still have to hold all the cards and race to the FP machines!!! :rotfl: :goodvibes

~Great post!!! I could not agree more. I'm getting more & more excited, too! And, I also agree that it's so awesome to see everything finally come together! :goodvibes

I love the idea!!!!!!!
~Yay!!! Me, too. I love your enthusiasm!!! :cool1: :goodvibes

I'm getting too old I guess. These acronyms are killing me :lmao: I'm going to keep working on this one but I'm afraid the NY Times crossword puzzle will prove easier.

I kinda figured they would have an alternative for folks who don't like the wristband for one reason or another.

I guess that AP holders will get a new band each visit...time will tell.

That acronym is made up and only means something to that poster, which he mysteriously won't reveal.

How will this work when you purchAse tickets on your own? We aways get 10 day non expiring and use them over a few trips and we dont purchase them from Disney. Im wondering if the 10 day non expiring will be phased out. If so I would love to purchse 4 more before I can no longer buy them.

I want this!!! Anyone know if this is something that can be requested? We're visiting Jan 27 to feb 2nd.

Tell you what, you figure out what "TDBIASWS" means and I'll see what I can do :thumbsup2

Wristbands are not my thing. I assume these can be Putin a pocket or purse and taken out as needed? Are they going to be thin and flexible, so that they don't feel uncomfortable in my pocket?

How mature.

I am always so impressed when adults announce they have information, but won't share it. Wait, I'm not. I picture their faces on Cindy Brady's body while she taunts, "I've got a secret! I've got a secret!" Of course, Cindy learned that her behavior was rude and she ceased to exhibit it, lol.
