Then we have a surprise update from quietgirl, who I wasn't expecting to arrive at Disney World until tomorrow.

"Best wishes from Royal Plaza poolside!!"

quietgirl said, "We Pricelined a hotel for tonight to get an early jump on our trip, so we're staying at the Royal Plaza near Downtown Disney tonight before we check into POR tomorrow. We walked down to DTD for dinner, and decided on Pollo Campero. Thought about Earl of Sandwich, but it was 6:00, and that line was outrageous!!!

Pollo Campero

Fried Chicken and French Fries

quietgirl said, "I had the 2 piece fried chicken (breast/wing) with fries, and it was amazing! The breading was crispy and flavorful, the meat was juicy (even the breast, which I usually find dry!!), and the fries were great! Loved the choice of sauces/ condiments too."

"DGF got the Citrus Grilled Chicken, but she tore into before I could get a pic- we'll work on that! ;) She had beans as her side, and also got an additional side of chips. She didn't leave anything, and said it was fantastic! She even ate the tortillas that came with the meal!"

quietgirl added, "Interesting tidbit - we got a coupon book at the hotel that had a coupon for 15% off Pollo Campero (and several other places!) and I noticed on the receipt it was listed as AAA discount! Exciting, 'cause we usually go there at least once each trip, and before now, I didn't realize they gave AAA discount!"

Sooooo....my phone died and I have no lunch or dinner pictures Barb, I'm sorry.

Lunch was at Starring Rolls at Hollywood Studios. David wasn't hungry, but DD and I split a Black Forest ham sandwich, chips, and a Red Velvet cupcake. Plenty for both of us and quite yummy. I see now why everyone raves about the cupcake! It's huge, but very light and full of flavor.

For dinner, we walked in the drizzle from our room at French Quarter to Riverside Mill food court. Katy and I had the build your own pasta. We both had proscuitto, garlic, and broccoli. I added mushrooms, DD added chicken. She had alfredo sauce, which was much nicer than my overly oily pesto. David had chicken nuggets. They both had Mickey head rice krispy treats for dessert, I had a 'eh' serving of cherry cobbler. Really like the variety at Riverside, I just didn't make the best choices.

Tomorrow will be fun... '50s Prime Time and 'Ohana! (AND a charged phone!)

We also received some more great updates from DonaldDoleWhip. I will post part of these tonight and the rest I will save for the morning. :thumbsup2

First we have a snack update from the...

He added, "As you often say, Boardwalk Bakery is definitely one of the best places for cupcakes." :thumbsup2

2 January Bonus Points Earned + 2 Miscellaneous Bonus Points Awarded for the "View from the Boardwalk" pic (one of my personal favorite views at WDW ;) ) and the cool picture of the Hollywood Tower. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for posting all these updates! It's exciting to finally be a contributor to this thread, and seeing these pics on here brings back such good memories. :goodvibes

(By the way, my fears of the Boardwalk seagulls aren't unfounded - one time, I was walking along the Boardwalk when a seagull grabbed a Rice Krispie Treat right out of my hand )

After reading all of today's updates, I'm really interested in trying Pollo Campero now - their citrus grilled chicken sounds really good! :thumbsup2

DDW, did you take secret Disney trip?!?! :lmao: or am I missing one of your awesome dining reports lol?
Thank you all for your wonderful contributions, I love this thread! And Barb for keeping up with all of it and making it so fun! Plus, your holiday food looked awesome! :goodvibes

There isn't a full dining report this time, since I didn't want to annoy my friends by taking pics of absolutely everything. For example, in an upcoming lunch review, I only took pics of my lunch (but it's a lunch that I'm excited to share!) :thumbsup2

(By the way, my fears of the Boardwalk seagulls aren't unfounded - one time, I was walking along the Boardwalk when a seagull grabbed a Rice Krispie Treat right out of my hand )

YIKES! While I've never had a seagull take anything from me, I did have one give me something...something nasty. ;) About 10 years ago, oldest DD and I were walking side-by-side at Disney's California Adventure Park when a seagull decided to make a deposit on our heads. :crazy2: And yes I said heads, because we were both recipients, so either there were two birds acting in tandem or that was one very talented seagull. :lmao:

Okay, moving on quickly from thoughts of seagull excrement to something nice...very nice! ::yes::

I'm happy to present to you, DonaldDoleWhip's very nice dinner at the Yacht Club's...

Captain's Grille

First we have a pic of the bread basket...

Happy New Year to all on this thread but especially Barb!

Have been refusing to post on disboards as for the first time in nine years I have no future trip planned but I can't help myself - still been checking in every day to see what scrummy food everyone else is enjoying.

Here's to a lottery win in 2013 and a last minute trip to WDW :)

Great to hear from you, chocolateMinnie! Glad you are still following along. :thumbsup2

Sorry I dropped off the map. We ended up trading family sickness ( one version was fever, cough, congestion; the other was intestinal) for much of the trip. We still had fun, but our pace and plans got adjusted, and sadly, photos of food got lost in the shuffle. I apologize profusely. My headline food news: Artist's Point. I was afraid the DS's (10 and 12) would not find much to eat, but they LOVED it! In fact the 10 year old said "I wish I had another hand so I could give it THREE thumbs up." :rotfl2:

Anyway...sorry again. I feel badly I let you all down. Happy New Year!

No worries, Amy! :goodvibes It all worked out fine, because with hosting our "Christmas Around the World" party last weekend my hands were full anyway. ;) I'm sorry to hear that you were sick though. It stinks to be sick during your vacation. :sad1:

All I can say is two weeks from tonight I will be at WDW! I'm hoping to go to the Poly to get a Lapu Lapu with our good friends but I don't know? And I'm not sure where we will be eating but I can't wait! ;)

You know, I have actually never had a Lapu Lapu. It certainly looks impressive though. ;)

thanks barb! we are all packed & ready to go right after i finish my 8 hour shift @ work tomorrow. i'm not quite sure if i'm going to do a dining report for my january trips as i am revisiting places i've already reviewed...i'm considering leaving my camera at home too but i doubt that will happen. :lmao:

we are finally getting to see the osbourne lights...so excited!!! pixiedust:

Have a safe trip down...hopefully no traffic jams this time. Talk to you soon! :goodvibes

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

I love this thread! Thank you so much for taking the time to compile all the reviews each day. :worship:

We are traveling to visit my daughter who is doing the Disney College Program next month and would love to send reviews in. I tried my hand at a dining review for our trip in July but I never finished. These daily reviews will be easier for me to handle.

My dates are 2/9-2/17.

And speaking of February, things are starting to look a little better thanks to some recent volunteers. Here are the February dates we are still needing reporters:

Feb. 1 - Feb. 17 - 1 or 2 more reporters needed

Feb. 18 - Feb. 23 - We have no one for this week.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only lucky one. I had just walked into AK and a bird that just had Thanksgiving Dinner relieved himself on my head.! What a way to end a vacation!

We have had an absolutely fantastic first day so far! I have lots of pics from BOG for lunch, and we're having dinner tonight at Cape May Cafe. Yum yum!

Ok, how about some updates? :woohoo:
