Then we have a surprise update from quietgirl, who I wasn't expecting to arrive at Disney World until tomorrow.

"Best wishes from Royal Plaza poolside!!"

quietgirl said, "We Pricelined a hotel for tonight to get an early jump on our trip, so we're staying at the Royal Plaza near Downtown Disney tonight before we check into POR tomorrow. We walked down to DTD for dinner, and decided on Pollo Campero. Thought about Earl of Sandwich, but it was 6:00, and that line was outrageous!!!

    Pollo Campero

    Fried Chicken and French Fries

quietgirl said, "I had the 2 piece fried chicken (breast/wing) with fries, and it was amazing! The breading was crispy and flavorful, the meat was juicy (even the breast, which I usually find dry!!), and the fries were great! Loved the choice of sauces/ condiments too."

"DGF got the Citrus Grilled Chicken, but she tore into before I could get a pic- we'll work on that! ;) She had beans as her side, and also got an additional side of chips. She didn't leave anything, and said it was fantastic! She even ate the tortillas that came with the meal!"

quietgirl added, "Interesting tidbit - we got a coupon book at the hotel that had a coupon for 15% off Pollo Campero (and several other places!) and I noticed on the receipt it was listed as AAA discount! Exciting, 'cause we usually go there at least once each trip, and before now, I didn't realize they gave AAA discount!"

Sooooo....my phone died and I have no lunch or dinner pictures Barb, I'm sorry.

Lunch was at Starring Rolls at Hollywood Studios. David wasn't hungry, but DD and I split a Black Forest ham sandwich, chips, and a Red Velvet cupcake. Plenty for both of us and quite yummy. I see now why everyone raves about the cupcake! It's huge, but very light and full of flavor.

For dinner, we walked in the drizzle from our room at French Quarter to Riverside Mill food court. Katy and I had the build your own pasta. We both had proscuitto, garlic, and broccoli. I added mushrooms, DD added chicken. She had alfredo sauce, which was much nicer than my overly oily pesto. David had chicken nuggets. They both had Mickey head rice krispy treats for dessert, I had a 'eh' serving of cherry cobbler. Really like the variety at Riverside, I just didn't make the best choices.

Tomorrow will be fun... '50s Prime Time and 'Ohana! (AND a charged phone!)

We also received some more great updates from DonaldDoleWhip. I will post part of these tonight and the rest I will save for the morning. :thumbsup2

First we have a snack update from the...

    Boardwalk Bakery

    Chocolate Peppermint Cupcake

DDW said, "It was delicious! (and big enough to share)"

He added, "As you often say, Boardwalk Bakery is definitely one of the best places for cupcakes." :thumbsup2

"The view from our table was awesome."

"The seagulls flying around were entertaining and scary at the same time."

"Next on our list was Hollywood Studios."

"After some thrill rides, we stopped at Starring Rolls to try their gingerbread cupcake with cream cheese frosting."

    Starring Rolls

"With a light dusting of "snow" on top, it tasted just like Christmas." :santa:

Check back tomorrow for Part II of DonaldDoleWhip's update. Trust me...it will be worth the wait! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for posting all these updates! It's exciting to finally be a contributor to this thread, and seeing these pics on here brings back such good memories. :goodvibes

(By the way, my fears of the Boardwalk seagulls aren't unfounded - one time, I was walking along the Boardwalk when a seagull grabbed a Rice Krispie Treat right out of my hand )

After reading all of today's updates, I'm really interested in trying Pollo Campero now - their citrus grilled chicken sounds really good! :thumbsup2

There isn't a full dining report this time, since I didn't want to annoy my friends by taking pics of absolutely everything. For example, in an upcoming lunch review, I only took pics of my lunch (but it's a lunch that I'm excited to share!) :thumbsup2

YIKES! While I've never had a seagull take anything from me, I did have one give me something...something nasty. ;) About 10 years ago, oldest DD and I were walking side-by-side at Disney's California Adventure Park when a seagull decided to make a deposit on our heads. :crazy2: And yes I said heads, because we were both recipients, so either there were two birds acting in tandem or that was one very talented seagull. :lmao:

Okay, moving on quickly from thoughts of seagull excrement to something nice...very nice! ::yes::

I'm happy to present to you, DonaldDoleWhip's very nice dinner at the Yacht Club's...

    Captain's Grille

First we have a pic of the bread basket...

DDW said, "The bread was served with salted butter, just like at the Signature restaurants."

House-made Potato-Cheese Gnocchi with toasted walnuts, julienne pears, and truffle butter

DDW said, "This was great! The fluffy gnocchi paired excellently with the sweet pears and earthy sauce."

Pot-braised Mussels with tomato-fennel broth with toasted foccacia (not pictured)

DDW said, "This dish normally includes clams as well, but my friend asked for just mussels. It also got good feedback."

Wild Alaskan Cod with Portuguese Stew

"This was my entree and it was a very hearty and satisfying dish."

Pan-seared Chicken with sweet potato, walnut butter, dried cherries, haricot verts, and truffle brown butter vinaigrette

"My friend said the truffle brown butter vinaigrette was phenomenal!"

Pasta Special - Cavatelli with Shrimp, Pine Nuts, Asparagus, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Pesto Sauce, and a Parmesan cheese from Argentina

    "This also looked delicious."

DonaldDoleWhip said, "It's super easy to get last-minute ADRs here and overall, I'm very glad that we ended up eating at Captain's Grille. It was a quiet and relaxing meal, and the food reminded me of Signature restaurants."

Then for dessert, they headed next door to the Beach Club's...

    Beaches & Cream

Grilled Banana Bread and Peanut Butter with Caramelized Bananas, Whipped Cream, and a scoop of Ice Cream (they chose pumpkin ice cream)

DDW said, "Two of us shared this, and needless to say, it was delicious."

"We topped off our night with a stop at the Beach Club Marketplace before heading back to Epcot. I had been wanting to try the popular Oreo Bon Bons, so we shared a pack of them."

    A 6-pack...of Oreo Bon Bons ;)

DDW said, "They were good, but very rich. I'm glad I only ate two of them!"

"Here are some pics of the holiday decorations at the Beach Club."

"And here are some pics from Coronado Springs."

DDW said, "I loved the fountain in El Centro."

"The room really impressed me. It felt modern, and the bedding was super comfortable!"

Great to hear from you, chocolateMinnie! Glad you are still following along. :thumbsup2

No worries, Amy! :goodvibes It all worked out fine, because with hosting our "Christmas Around the World" party last weekend my hands were full anyway. ;) I'm sorry to hear that you were sick though. It stinks to be sick during your vacation. :sad1:

You know, I have actually never had a Lapu Lapu. It certainly looks impressive though. ;)

Have a safe trip down...hopefully no traffic jams this time. Talk to you soon! :goodvibes

No problem, Joyce. Hope you have a great time today at '50s PTC and 'Ohana and some delicious food! :)

I love this thread! Thank you so much for taking the time to compile all the reviews each day. :worship:

We are traveling to visit my daughter who is doing the Disney College Program next month and would love to send reviews in. I tried my hand at a dining review for our trip in July but I never finished. These daily reviews will be easier for me to handle.

    My dates are 2/9-2/17.

And speaking of February, things are starting to look a little better thanks to some recent volunteers. Here are the February dates we are still needing reporters:

    Feb. 1 - Feb. 17 - 1 or 2 more reporters needed

Feb. 18 - Feb. 23 - We have no one for this week.

    Feb. 24 - Feb. 28 - 1 or 2 more reporters needed

Ok, how about some updates? :woohoo:

glasslipper sent this one from her dinner last night at Downtown Disney's...

    Raglan Road

"DH's Guinness, it was a hit!"

Young's Double Chocolate Stout - Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young's award winning rich, full flavored dark beer to craft a satisfying indulgent, but never overly sweet experience.

"DS's Young's Double Chocolate Stout. He liked it!"

"My Bailey's Coffee, it was just okay."

    Soda bread with Guinness reduction

Serious Steak – 10 oz sirloin topped with Irish whiskey marmalade glaze, with fresh basil oil, mashed potatoes & topped with beer battered onion rings.

"DH had this and really liked it!"

Fish & Chips - Beer battered fish 'n chips served with fresh tartar sauce.

"This was DD's entree and they were really good."

Beefy Murray - Beef curry pie with spinach, potatoes, mushrooms & apple chutney

"DS's entree, he really liked it."

Pie in the Sky - Reach new heights with our chicken & wild mushroom pie served with a (non -NASA) rocket lettuce

"My entree at Raglan Road! I was disappointed with this, it had too much chicken and wasn't very creamy."

Then for their desserts, they chose...

    Ger’s Bread & Butter Pudding

"DS's bread pudding dessert, it was very good but big!"

    Moore Street Market
Fresh fruit basket with natural yogurt and honey drizzle

    "It was really good!"

    Strawberry and apple crumble
Fresh Strawberry and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and fresh cream.

"This is DH's strawberry apple crumble dessert, he loved it! DD didn't get a dessert because it all had dairy in it and she is lactose intolerant."

"Raglan Road was a hit and we will be going back in future trips!" :thumbsup2

Wow! Raglan may be known for its bread pudding, but that crumble sounds awesome! RR is one of my mom's favorites, so returning there sometime is definitely on our list. :thumbsup2
