Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

ONE MORE!!! At mile 15 on the right, albeit a little off course, is McDonald's where I'll be stopping for my M&M McFlurry :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Personally, I like the Rolo McFlurry. I'd get one, but after the sugar rush, I go into a sugar coma and just want my bed.

Thanks for the info about the monorail from BLT and EE. One last question for now, does anyone have experience running in the Minnie ear headbands? I was trying out my outfits today and don't really like the little Minnie clip on ears I got after halloween. I'm not really concerned about trying something new since this isn't a race against the clock for me, and worse case scenario, I hand them off to my mom at mile 5 since she'll be cheering from BLT. Just curious how they stay put before I buy a pair and try them.

i would really love one but would prefer if it was closer to the end of the race. i'm afraid that much dairy with 11 miles left would be ....

i do have a feeling that my friend will be at the boardwalk with a margarita for me. as much as that sounds great, there is no way i'd be able to stomach that. i will just be too focused on finishing i'm sure.

12 on the treadmill for me this morning since we got another snowstorm during the night. Yeah, that was not fun. :lmao:

But I got it done (not very quickly though, I am 2 minutes per mile slower on the 'mill) and that was the last double digit run until the marathon! :goodvibes

I would bring some duct (or other tape) to wrap the teeth. Maybe that would not be an issue, but I cannot wear the Mickey version due to the spikes. I see lots of them on course and in photos, so maybe my head is too large or overly sensitive.

I would wear them on a jog prior to the race - it would be a good idea to get a feel for their bounce and wind drag. You will more than likely not have an issue other than the possible tooth issue. But I ran with a guy wearing a foam Goofy hay last year. He never thought about the foam and sweat. I swear he wrung a gallon out at mile 14.

Have a great run

I am with you!

Anything that I have not had on a training run is not happening. For me the dairy would not be a good thing, either. The local Hash Hounds used to set up camp around mile 20 with their red cups until Disney shooed them away. A frozen drink would become a debilitating head rush , also. I think I will stick with water and powerade through mile 26.2, then all bets are off.

It's all in the cadence of consumption. :rotfl:

The cooler than ToT 10 mile weather will allow for a longer semi-solid condition of the McFlurry thereby extending the need to ingest time period before it turns to liquid phase. Because of this extra time frame, I will not have to shovel the spoon every 50 strides. Besides, by that point of the marathon, I expect to be down to about 12mpm walking pace so it will be easier on my internals. :)

Felt really good today... the restlessness of a week with no running, combined with nearly perfect running-in-snow conditions (32 degrees, light snow, no wind) meant that I couldn't resist taking a small run.

2.7 miles at 12 m/m pace. Lungs felt fine... no coughing during the run, only very slight coughing as I readjusted to the warm indoor air.

The congestion in about 80% gone from my chest.

Its amazing what the z-pack can do... 72 hours ago, I was worried about race day in two weeks.

I still have one more day on the zpack. I'm hoping for the same results. Still no way I'm running....too congested in chest. :(. I'm beginning to worry about two weeks from now....

Everest has been taken out of the equation for most runners. Only those who are running slower than a 14 mm in E or later would pass with the park opening. I would think that most folks in this camp would probably not be looking for a loss of 5-10 minutes of non moving time.

I am in no way saying that I am giving up or anything. I still plan to do my best.......but if the day went terribly wrong and there was an injury or something.....and I knew there was no way I was going to finish based on my time around 12 miles.....I may commit marathon "suicide" and just go ahead and go out with a bang. It would definitely make the day a little more funpixiedust: to ride Everest if I was going to get swept and go home without a medal anyway.

Finished my "half marathon!!" The course was very poorly marked so I actually ran 15 miles in 11 degree weather!

I wore a pair and they were fine. Mine were the fuzzy kind, so no "teeth" and I put them over my hat and had no issues.

Congrats! I finished a Half Marathon this morning but compared to you, it was a balmy 26F (14F windchill). :)

I was still a little worried about the trails around Columbus OH being slippery, so I was back on the mill today. I felt unbelievably strong for all 10 miles I did at a 1° incline. Not fast (12 m/m), but steady and no issues at all.

As with many others, I thank Coach for his... well... coaching! ;-) Clearly there's more to coaching than the advice he gives on how to pace, what to eat, and where the bathrooms are located. It's his little inspirational pep talks that really help too. And not just Charles, but everyone else who has posted words of encouragement for another runner in doubt. The one thing that has struck me in the year plus that I've been running is how supportive the run community is. It really doesn't matter how far, it really doesn't matter how fast, it really only matters that you're out there and you're doing it.

See y'all in a couple of weeks!

Ok DH wants me to ask a question:

He is S-L-O-W. He ran his first half marathon in October and finished in 3:52. He is running the half in 2 weeks and is concerned about being swept. He got corral F, and is planning to get as close to the front as possible.

So the question is: what is the longest any one has run the half in? I saw someones signature that had 3:48 from last year, so he is encouraged by that. He is okay with the prospect of being swept but obviously would prefer not to be. I understand (and this may be incorrect) that once you are past a certain point, they won't sweep you and you can finish.

He needs some encouragement, all the snow we are getting here is bringing us down.

I finished the princess 1/2 at 4:17 and started in corral c. I was not swept.

I started in Corral G and had a 3:48 finish time. I can tell you that I was very close to the end of the line, as I came up and over the overpass going back to Epcot, I saw the last runners down below. I was probably within the last 400 people on the course?

My food poor choices from the previous day were made evident at the first mile of the race, which put me behind from the start. I lost at least 10 minutes waiting in line for a port-a-potty and taking care of business and then getting back up to speed back on the course.

It has been covered that you should by no means use that as any type of guideline, as the rules state the minimum pace. My Runkeeper app on my iPhone was my prodding the whole way, as I had it set to keep reminding me if I was behind my 16 minute pace requirements.

As much padding as you can get on the time will make it all the better, and if you don't have any "issues" that I battled with at the start, then I'd think he'd have a good time getting through.

Thank you KSBelle and Kipp-this is encouraging to him. He has been dealing with foot issues and now with the weather as it is here, he can't get out to run at all.

Looking forward to warm Florida sun in a mere 12 days. And I too want to thank everyone for their encouragement and suggestions and stories. I am relatively confident that I can tackle Goofy and DH will finish the half. It may not be fast, and I certainly won't look pretty when its over, but we will have done it. And that's all that counts.

I wore the sequin Minnie ear headbands for the Princess Half. If you use a Bondi Band and put the Minnie headband over that, the ears won't budge a bit. I didn't need any pins or clips and the ears stayed perfectly in place before and after the race. :)
