Rick~Thanks for sharing. Wow, bronchitis 2 weeks before your full! That's wonderful you got through it! My doctor also prescribed a z-pack and a nasal spray. She also has me using an inhaler daily and she wants me to carry a rescue inhaler when I run for awhile. I told her I was wheezing while running. It was never severe (my son has asthma so I know about wheezing), but I guess it concerned her. Thanks again!

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! And those of us running Turkey Trots have fantastic runs :thumbsup2

This time last year before the half, both DH and I had the flu which became bronchitis, but we were all better by the time the half rolled around. You have time to make a great recovery too, just rest and take care of yourself, that's the most important right now.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone! :yay:

I just read your trip report. I think I have actually read it before, but it really makes me feel better that you only did 18 for your longest run. I know everyone is different, but right now I think my toughest battle is the mental one, so it's good to hear someone was able to do it!

Since my work schedule has balanced out a lot more than in the past 2 months, I think it will be easier for me to get 4 runs in than spend 5 hours + at the gym in on day. I will just do Galloway intervals, combining both plans.

Yes, the mental battle is huge. Of course I would suggest getting in the 20-miler if you can, but you're probably ready at this point and don't even know it. :) Even though the 20-miler didn't happen for me I remember coming home from the 18-miler and telling my husband that I was confident that I could finish the marathon. I just KNEW. Hard to explain, I think.

And I have always done walk/run intervals even though I'm not following a Galloway plan. Last year during training I would walk 1 minute at the end of each mile...this year I walk a minute every other mile. Whatever works. :)

I needed inspiration so I read your trip report yesterday and loved it! :flower3: These are the dog days, I'm so sick of running, portion of my training that I needed a jolt out of the doldrums. It helped to see what the end will look like. It doesn't help that the weather here as been crape diem. At some point I need to get off the couch, put the dogs away, get layered and get out there!

And I love breaking down the marathon to three sections! I'm totally using that.

I'm doing Galloway just to finish for Goofy but I'll probably be switching plans for whatever my next one will be. I like Higdon's Novice 1 or 2. Novice 2 seems to have a nice variety to it.

I totally know what you mean about now being the dog days...but we are SO close to tapering. You can do it!!!

Great point about seeing what the end looks like. I think a lot of people visualize running down MSUSA toward the castle, but not the finish line. So if this helps anyone...here you go!

Uh, except if you're running the half imagine it saying "half marathon"...same thing goes if you're running the 5K. :upsidedow

I haven't used Novice 2 yet but I think I am going to try it for my next marathon (first one not at Disney!)

Has anyone registered for the Race Retreat? I made sure I read over the registration page over and over again to register for the right retreat, but it says the date for the Marathon Race Retreat is on the 12th. Does anyone else see that too?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Ran the local T-day 10K today...this race last year was my first real road race so it was fun to do again. I ran a 48:42, which was a 6 minute improvement over last year and it was just a really good race for me! We are also doing a team trail race Saturday, where you run as many 1 mile loops as you can in an hour so that should be fun! Hope everyone had a great day, great races, and good luck with your training this weekend!

Today I am thankful for Advil for relieving the awful pain in my foot and ankle from yesterday's run. I thought, there is no way I've been training for seven months to get injured with seven weeks left. But the pain is gone! :cheer2:

Happy Thanksgiving to all!! :flower3:

Oh good, part 2! Hopefully I can keep up with this thread better than I did with the first part!

I ran a half marathon this morning, and after a disappointing finish at Wine & Dine a couple of weeks ago I am thrilled that I was able to pull off a PR! And by over 9 minutes, too! It was exactly what my bruised ego needed as I get back full force into Goofy training.

Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving!!

Uggh feeling so stuffed after a wonderful meal with the family today. But I started my day with a 5k PR at the Turkey Trot. :cool1: Time was 31:12 official, splits 10:15, 9:42, 9:44, 1:29. For a crowded race (6000 runners for the 5k) I will take it!

Unfortunately my PF left foot is killing me from standing cooking all day after running. Hoping some Advil will help, since DH and I are headed out shortly for shopping.

Does anyone else have race nightmares? I have these terrible dreams where I get to the start of the marathon and then I realize that I forgot to go to the expo to pick up my race bib so I can't participate.................or that I get too slow and I am not allowed to finish the race. I wish I had normal dreams.:confused3

I ran a 5-mile Turkey Trot this morning...46:11, a new 5-mile PR for me! :yay:

This year - not yet. Last year I had nightmares that I overslept and woke up, like, 10 minutes before the race started. I almost dreamed that I got to my first character meet and relished I forgot my camera. I am one of those runners that stops for the photos, so this was a bad one for me!

Oh where do I begin? Before this princess last year, I had dreams I turned left and headed to Animal Kingdom instead of Magic Kingdom. Another dream - I found a secret door and crossed the finish line after half an hour. They wouldn't let me keep running.
Another dream - I showed up at disney undertrained and forgot my socks so I went into the bathroom and stole someone's socks. Another - one ran for an hour, stopped by a pool for two hours in the middle of the run and then started running again.

Two nights ago, I had one where I forgot to pack my gels and waterbelt and watch so I was trying to figure out where to pick them up on the course.

WAKE UP EXHAUSTED!

And I just signed up for Tink the following weekend. :faint:

They just opened up additional spots for "Green Friday."

YOLO, I guess. Isn't that what all the kids are saying?

Still can't walk over here :( it's been a week now and the knee is still bad. Can't get anywhere without limping. I'm so frustrated! I'm going back to the PT today and seeing an ortho on Monday. The PT is very anti drugs and shots but I'm at the point where ii can't even take care of my kids, let alone do a marathon.

Say a little prayer to the running gods for me. Just a little relief would keep my spirits up.

Praying to the running gods for you. Hope you can find relief soon.

I am back to running after a month off for a sprained ankle. I need some help planning the rest of my long runs. What do you think of this plan:
11/24: 5 miles (I did 2 miles on Wed and 3 on Thursday. These were my first runs in a month. I'm tempted to try 7. Is that smart)
12/1: 9-10 miles?
12/8: 13-15miles
12/15: 17-20 miles
12/22: 20 -23?
Taper after that
Is this crazy? I have compressed time but.want to get back to do at least 20. Would feel better if I could get a 23 done but don't want hurt myself. Last long run was 17 miles a month ago. Maybe I don't need to build up again? Thoughts?

This is my first peak week (55 miles) and I am faring well so far. Happy for the long weekend and the chance to run in daylight. The other peak weeks won't be nearly as fun.

froggygrrrl Congrats on the PR! The older and more injury prone I get, it is ironic that I realize how important the MENTAL part of running is.So I can totally understand why you needed that PR. Glad you got it.

rocio Glad you're back to running. I don't really have any good advice, other than "don't run if it hurts!". And I don't think you need to push past 20 (or even 16-18).

Nancy pixiedust: for that knee

I am enjoying the weather in sunny LA this week and won't run til next Tuesday. Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day. So much work for one meal. Why didn't I cater it!

Maura

I couldn't sign up for an official Turkey Trot yesterday so I ran my own! :rotfl: I have a terrible cold and the stupid race director (me!) picked a hilly course. I finished my 5k in 32:40. I've already had a few people say that they want to run my 5k next THanksgiving. :rotfl2:
