Don't think I ever said where our room was... 7111..it was a good location for us., around the corner from the elevators and lounge. We didn't see much of bay lake, but could look down on the porch, walkways and pool.,,also could see the high wishes. One night they rehearsed the NYE fireworks.

Also, I'm an iced tea drinker and they don't put it out in the am, but when I asked on the first day the cm asked how long we were staying and every morning there was a carafe of it...all I had to do was ask :)

Hi everyone! My husband and I just made a last minute change and moved from YC CL to WL CL. We leave two weeks from today so I've got lots of catch up research to do. I've been reading lots today but could use advice on what section to request. It's just the two of us and quiet Location would be our biggest request. Being near the lobby overlook would be great but might be loud. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

We were inner courtyard and it was quiet. Also, the tables ring the lobby...we looked out over it every time we went to the lounge...happy planning!

OK, we've been back for two days now, and I've had some time to collect my thoughts on the Lodge, so here we go:

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge from 12/17-12/21. I had booked a courtyard view with a cast member discount, and put in a request for third or fourth floor, center courtyard view (as opposed to the villas courtyard).

When we stepped off Magical Express, Megan greeted us and made us feel right at home. We didn't even have to go to the counter to check in, she brought our packet right to us and explained everything.

Our assigned room was 4151, and it was exactly the view I had imagined. It was literally like they had plucked the image from my head! We had an amazing view of the pool and Bay Lake, and even found we could see the higher Wishes fireworks over the top of the other wing!

The room itself was just okay. The beds were extremely hard; Mom had difficulty sleeping at all, and I woke up sore every day. There were some minor cosmetic issues: the hall light was dirty; one of the above bed lights' glass was crooked, not flat in it's frame; one of the sinks was missing the decorative piece that indicates the cold water, and the bathroom door handle was broken, so it wouldn't even close securely, let alone lock! We felt the hallway area where the closet and fridge are was very cramped, particularly when trying to maneuver a scooter in and out. The vanity area and bathroom was just a disaster. In most other hotels, the door opens into the bathroom, but here it opened out into the vanity area, which caused a lot of space issues. The Wi-Fi was very poor for the first few days; I was having to disconnect and reconnect literally every other page. We had a bit of a weaker and therefore slower connection to the "Public WiFi" network, but at least it didn't constantly kick us off. And the trade off to that amazing view was noise. Every afternoon, from about 1pm onward, loud pop music would BLARE from the pool area-earplugs barely blocked it out. We could also hear the geyser erupting and the boat horns.

However, the hotel had many positives as well. The atmosphere and Christmas decorations were amazing. Transportation was excellent; we NEVER waited more than 10 minutes for a bus or boat coming or going anywhere, and many times it was less than a 2 minute wait. All the cast members we encountered were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, with the exception of one who had some difficulty connecting us to the Ft. Wilderness Lost & Found. We ate at both Whispering Canyon Cafe and Roaring Fork and had great food and service. Mousekeeping was very good, and they brought us a sharps container within an hour of asking.

The Mercantile was well stocked, and we bought several items there, including snacks on the dining plan. Bell Services brought our luggage up from Magical Express just about two hours after we had checked in, and they were very helpful when our scooter was delivered. However, there was some confusion upon check out. I went to the inside desk to store our carry on, and they told me I had to do that outside. So when I went to return the scooter later that day, I went to the outside desk and was told I had to return it inside. And it took them longer than I thought was acceptable to retrieve the carry on when I went to pick it up, because they are also the valet desk, and they seemed more concerned about catering to the cars than the people waiting to pick up their bags.

I would recommend this hotel to others, with the conditional warnings about the beds. However, the beds alone would probably prevent me from staying here again.

Give the beds a year or two, and they will soften up, lol!

It's really hard to get a mattress that will please everyone, because some people like them all squishy and plushy, and some people like them firm, and some like them in between. Even Goldilocks had to try all three bear beds before finding one she liked! The beds at WL should all be new - I'm actually looking forward to trying them out next month. I was last there in May, when they didn't have any refurbished rooms ready for occupancy yet.

I have to admit, I like the CR beds the best of any on property. They seem to be cushy yet supporting. I really have to force myself out of bed when I stay there!

Glad your trip went well otherwise!

Just spend a weekend at DL Paris. We even stayed at the Sequoia Lodge.

Boy was it crowded! We mostly went in the morning and after 11 went to Paris for teh day, but one night we went back into the park... Even it's a small world had a line of well over an hour! There were massive lines to get into the stores even.

Sequoia Lodge is also based on lodges like the Wilderness Lodge, I do feel that the hotels in WDW have much better theming than the DLP ones. On the upside: breakfast was included in the price.

We enjoyed our little bonus trip (no pictures, didn't take the camera) but I don't think we'll go to DLP at that time again. Just a little too busy.

And now it's only 4 months till our big holiday :dance3:

Oh:
:santa::santa:
Merry Chistmass and a good, healthy and happy New Year!:santa::shamrock::santa:

Here now at the VWL in a 1 bedroom unit. As I'm typing, maintenance is in our room. We checked in on the 21st. I have to say I got teared up when we walked in. The lobby is just so beautiful it took my breath away! The decorations are beautiful. All the activities, and special Xmas events are spectacular! The transportation is also great! The food at the counter service place has been very good even though there isn't a large selection. Our room was ready at check in, we arrived around 6:30pm. The location of our room is just perfect. We overlook the lobby in the villas section & are right next to the elevator!

Now for the bad. Now let me preface this to say that because its Xmas week I over looked a lot of things because I know hey are busy & probably booked. When we got in to our room the bad smell was the first thing we noticed. It was almost like a wet cat smell. But I had my owners locker filled with room fresheners & Fabreeze so I figured I'd take care of it & not make a fuss. We were starving & tired from our 18 hour drive so we headed out to eat. When we came back, I started to unpack & that's when we noticed how dirty the room was. Now when I say dirty I mean, kitchen floor with spills & sticky, cabinets with splashed food on them, dust an inch thick around the door that's for the toilet area. That door is a sliding door so the dust I'm referring to is on the silver piece the door slides on. The furniture is banged up and really in need of replacement. The appliances are in need of a refurb as well. Loose handles, dirty with left over food stains, etc.but I figured its stuff I can clean, I don't want to change my room because of the location & I don't want to cause problems cause we were tired, & I figured its a very busy week, I can't expect it to be perfect. Then it was time to take a shower. The handle moves on its own causing the knob to fall to hot water. So basically you're in the shower and the handling is slowly moving to hot water & eventually it burns you! Then when I took a towel off the holder the holder came off with it. The sink (in the part of the bathroom with the jacuzzi tub) that handle came off when we turned it on. Then, the light bulb went out in the shower. This all came to a head last night, after we got back from EMH at the MK. It was 1am &none of us could take a shower in the dark, especially with the broken handle in the shower. So we call & are informed there is no maitenance at the reset from 12am to 8am, if we really need someone they have to get someone from the MK to come over. we said that was fine, we were told it could take 20 mins & agreed to wait.

Two men came & I should have video taped them because it was comical they were clueless. They had no lightbulbs with them, they couldn't fix the shower valve but they were able to reattach the towel holder and sink handle after about a half hour. They tell us, we have to go find a light bulb. They come back 20 mins later with the wrong ones. At that point we were told to just wait for tomorrow to have the shower fixed. It was now 2:30am so we agreed. We asked please make sure no one comes early, we need to sleep a little. They said no problem, I didn't feel confident but I was so tired I just put the privacy please sign on the door and went to bed. BTW, they left a pile of dirt on the shower floor.

At 8am this morning the room phone started ringing and there was knocking on our door! They woke us all up, my 2 kids as well but by the time I got to the door, no one was there. When I called they had no idea why someone came to our room or called because the work order was "differed". Mind you it took 20 mins to get to the actual front desk, we asked to speak with a manager & were told he was busy but would call us. He never did. We kept getting transferred around & had to relay the story 4 times before we got someone who could sort of help us. Finally, the maitenance man is here, with no light bulbs but does manage to fix the valve in the showers. He has to leave then just came back with the right bulbs. A front desk person felt bad about or situation, he was the one to finally get someone to help us, he called our room & just informed me he credited back 30 points to our DVC account. He said it was because it was what we paid for last nights stay & we didn't get any sleep because of what happened. I thought that was nice of him & did not expect that at all. He was very nice but, while it was a great gesture, the whole situation leaves me feeling like we won't stay here again.

The miscommunication with employees, the cluelessness of some of the CM's (no one at the front desk knew if the boat was running yesterday morning to go to the MK because of fog. That's a whole other story) but the main thing is the condition of the room. I can't believe that my Hampton Inn stay in SC on our drive in from NY was a much better experience! The room was spotless, the furniture in top shape. It upsets me as a Disney obsessed fan and DVC owner (at 2 resorts) that this is the way they maintain their properties. I'm sure the mouse keepers aren't given enough time to properly clean theses rooms. Either that or they need to retrain their employees on how to clean properly, how to inspect things like a towel holder and report problems. There is no way a mouse keeper wouldn't have noticed the broken faucet handle.i don't know I'm sorry if I'm rambling now, I'm exhausted.

Anyway, I don't expect Disney to have to refund me points, I just want a room in working order, that's all. Oh and before you all jump on me for not reporting by problems earlier, we were compiling a list to give to the front desk when we left so they know the problems in the room that need to be addressed before letting someone else stay in here. At first it was what I considered little things. It wasn't until bigger issues came up & then we called.

Would we stay here again, no, probably not. My DH plans to hopefully speak to the manager at some point just so he is made aware of the issues at his resort. I'm assuming he would want to know. I'm not looking for anything other than the hope that someone will look into how these rooms are being cleaned & maintained.

Oh, wow! I'm sorry you had such a hard time! It seems like when it hits peak season and the resorts are fully booked, there are always a few rooms that really should have been kept out of inventory for maintenance issues that are assigned to guests. I hope they have been able to fix everything so it's operational, and if it were me, I would still have a one on one with a manager while you're there. They need to be made aware of what condition the room was in - it could be that yours isn't the only one.

I have to say I haven't had issues like that at VWL or WL, but I've worked in the travel industry for a long time, and I know it happens everywhere. I wouldn't put off staying there again - but I totally understand if you feel the need to try out some other resort on your next trip.

Merry Christmas

Welcome! I've stayed at both CLs and I much prefer WL over YC, so I think you'll be quite happy. WL has much more seating than YC and better views. As far as a quiet room location, we always requests a room without a connecting door. Also, if you think the afternoon pool party might bother you, you may want to request a Woods View room in the North Wing. You'll be able to see some of Wishes and your room will face towards the woods, CR, Castle. We really like the Courtyard View rooms because we love to look out at Bay Lake and watch the EWP, but the pool party noise might bother you:confused3
Such great information! Thanks everyone! We arrive on January 1 for five nights!
Welcome! It won't be long now before you're there!

Thanks for posting your TR! It's helpful for others to read your thoughts. What one person sees as a negative, some see as a positive, such as hearing the boat horns and the geyser erupting. The pool party does have a PA system that emits music and the CMs use it to run the games. This goes on for about 2 - 2.5 hours everyday in the afternoon. If you don't have an inner courtyard view room, you won't hear it.

As far as broken or dirty items in your room, please let either housekeeping or better yet, the housekeeping manager know. You can either call or leave a note. These things should have been taken care of before your arrival, but if the last occupant didn't complain, they can get overlooked. I know you're back home now, but you can still send an email to Disney Guest Communications and someone will read and respond to your comments.

Give the beds a year or two, and they will soften up, lol!

:rotfl: Yep, it's a lot like Goldilocks:upsidedow

ITA about the CR beds and bedding, they've always been the most comfortable and cozy, IMHO:cloud9:

Oh, no! This is horrible! I've never booked on points, only cash, but I would strongly encourage you to walk to the front desk (if you haven't done so) and ask to speak with the GM right now. Relay everything you posted here and ask that they come to your room ASAP. At a minimum you should be placed in another room. I know this is a big inconvenience, but you really need to get out of that room and "start fresh." Bell Services will help you. Please let us know what happens.

OK
I did it I just switched from POFQ to WL for our trip in 3 weeks. I just had my heart set on it. I know I would have been fine at POFQ but I have always wanted to stay at WL!!!
SOOO EXCITED!!!!

I am just so excited. I want to do the mouseboats on bay lake like DH and I did on our HM 10 years ago! I want to finally swim in the pool there (though I am thinking the hot tub is more likely in 3 weeks!)
I just cant wait!:cool1:

Just wanted to give everyone an update.
We are checking out tomorrow but we had a great stay.
They were replacing all the mattresses on the 7th floor. So we
Got to stay in a brand new mattress. Yay! Mousekeeing
Has been great! :) the parks have been awesome. Not that long
Of a wait. We did go to MK last night around 9pm and it was wall
To wall of people! At around 12 midnight everything was walk up.
We got to see Mickey and Minnie in the lobby of WL and that was awesome!
No line! And they were autographing!

Hello fellow DiSers! I am not staying at the WL (but it is on my bucket list!!) but I would like to go there and relax one night on my trip in Jan. I am wondering where in the resort besides the main lobby where there is a cozy fireplace area to lounge and relax with a couple people. TiA!

After reading about the mattresses, I asked if he had a problem - we were 7th floor at Thanksgiving- he said no they were fine....guess it really is personal preference :)

Congratulations on booking! It might be hard going back to a Moderate after staying Deluxe;). DD and I (DH not so much:rolleyes2), love the Sea Raycers. It's so much fun going round ol' Discovery Island and looking over at
River Country then going through the canal over to Seven Seas Lagoon. If it's a choppy, windy day though, be prepared to get wet.

Let us know if you have any questions:)

And here I thought I had a new mattress back in August - it seemed new:scratchin. Do you know if they shut down entry to MK at any point yesterday? It usually gets full by mid morning on Christmas and New Years.

Have a safe trip home!

Hello fellow DiSers! I am not staying at the WL (but it is on my bucket list!!) but I would like to go there and relax one night on my trip in Jan. I am wondering where in the resort besides the main lobby where there is a cozy fireplace area to lounge and relax with a couple people. TiA!

Welcome! The third and fourth floors have fireplaces and a cozy seating area above the resort's entrance. Just take the stairs in front of Whispering Canyon Cafe and enjoy the view! Also, walk on over to VWL and you will find a hidden gem of fireplaces, a large seating area and even an inglenook off to the right as you enter the lobby - so cozy!

After reading about the mattresses, I asked if he had a problem - we were 7th floor at Thanksgiving- he said no they were fine....guess it really is personal preference :)
I recall that two years ago when we stayed on the 5th floor at Christmas, the mattresses were WELL over-due for replacement and were sagging toward the nightstands. I thought that during/after the rehab they had all been replaced or should be by now:confused3. We even spied some in August being stored in four rooms to the right:
