Upgrades at Port?

Question... So we are in a 4D (the Deluxe family with veranda)... From what it seems was that the upgrades were from ocean view to something similar to what we are in and/ or a concierge? If we are already in the largest before being in a concierge, is there any chance we will be offered that? If so anyone know the price tag on this (3 night Dream to Bahamas)... THANKS :thumbsup2

Just so you know, you won't be offered any kind of upgrade at the port you have to go to the Supervisor's desk and ask if any upgrades are available.
You can upgrade (if available) to a cat. V, same size cabin but with concierge amenities, or cat. T a 1 bedroom suite or a cat. R the 1 bedroom royal suite.

Thanks JoiseyMom for the info. Something to think about now. The current price for the 1bd on our cruise is 12k. By your estimates, it would probably be too much for the upgrade, but I can start doing the math.

A question if ya'll don't mind.

When you upgrade at port do you pay at the supervisor's desk? Or is it treated like any other onboard charge and billed to the room account? :confused3
I know it does not make any difference. I'm just curious.
Thanks so much for any info.

It was added to our shipboard account when we did it last week.

On the first bus from mco to PC on Sunday. First from the bus through security. About 30-40 people already at the terminal (I think it was empty last year, when we were on the same bus). 2 ahead of us at the desk. There were 3 cat T's available when they started, down to just 11006 and 11008 by the time we were up to bat. We took 11008, and were very happy. Upgraded from a vgt booking. It was so nice, we're thinking of changing our 2013 Fantasy reservation to cat V or T.

We are in several 4a's on 10/20 and 10/27 out of Galveston, I probably won't change since we have connecting cabins and 2 each in a cabin but am going to find out if available and how much. I'll post any info I get for you :). I have no idea what I will decide and since no DH cruising 10/27 will just need to decide / justify to myself :rotfl:

I can't wait until you get back to hear all about it. We have cruised before a couple of times with Disney, but this is our first on the Magic, and out of Galveston. We are thinking of upgrading to concierge at the port and are curious about the cost, and what all it includes. Hope you are having a

Does pixie dusting ever happen when you book a particular room? We booked onboard and chose a room, but I'd love to be pixie dusted to a different one. :)

Yes, it does happen, but it is a rare occurrence.

It happened to us back in August on the Dream. We booked a category 4C and was upgraded to category V (concierge) a few days before leaving.

A lot cheaper than online, but still more than what I thought. Let me know if you felt like it was worth the difference. Thanks so much!!!

If I hadn't sailed other lines at this level I might have a different opinion but thus far I am thinking not worth it but will have to keep pondering it this week

It is really a personal decision. We were on The Magic to Canada, the last one out of NYC. We had booked an IGT dirt cheap, for me and DH. We got to port and they had The Roy suite open. Now, for us this was for five nights. I had a number in my head, and DH had a totally different number. So DH said yes, where had it been up to me I would have probably said no, but regretting it. DH knew better...LOL. He knew that that suite is almost never available, and for us it was probably a once in a lifetime shot, so he went for it. I have to say it was incredible, even though it was only the two of us. There are also more perks for that suite then the others. I do know that I would LOVe to travel concierge again, and we might, but I would never be able to pay full price for the The Royal suite up front. We also spent most of our time in the room.

I don't think you will regret it.

I have read people say that they got a lithograph for being in concierge, did you get this?

I agree and just personal choice but I am one that isn't a DCL fanatic. We have loved our DCL cruise but Like princess and Hal. Our trip on HAl in the penthouse with a spa on the balcony, free laundry, dry cleaning, priority dining, neptunes lounge, staff addressing us by name throughout the shift was alot of fun. Likely a once in a lifetime experience for us and the upgrade charge was just ynder what i paid today and for a 2 week cruise. This cruise We had 3 4a cabins side by side so were quite content with the space we had planned. It was a but of a tough choice. Had we had all insides or OV it would have been an easier choice. We like the room and no regrets , as we would not have upgraded twice in the last week if we had regrets. Walt and Roy suite yes different story for me and doesn't really compare to the 1br we are in today. We went suite viewing this am was amazing to see all the suites from forward to back. Almost all are different from eAch other except a couple that are mirror images. The second upgrade for our back to back was somewhat out of laziness, didn't have to pack up and change cabins :).

Yes that is a perk, we got one when we sailed Concierge. It was by Don Ducky Williams. You also can get hot breakfast via room service.

We are just back from the 3 day Dream cruise blown off course by Sandy.

We were the 4th family in line at the port and the second to the upgrade desk.

We booked 2 connecting 4D's and were quoted $315 (each) to upgrade to V's and $615 to T's.

There were only two V's available (one on deck 11, one on deck 12) and we initially took those since we were told there were no connecting cabins available. However, we quickly found out that the T connecting to our kids cabin was indeed available so we ended up upgrading there instead.

The kids room (11000) was actually a handicap room, so there was lots of extra floor space and having both together we had our own little suite. With the way the cruise turned out, it was the best $915 I ever spent!!

With 2 children in tow and having to get to the port for 10am is it possible to leave the cruise terminal again in the time after check-in and before boarding at 1pm. I just thought a walk might be better than sitting around for 3hours - especially if I didn't get an upgrade as I'd be a little disappointed :(
