Aulani expansion worries.....

I spoke with concierge today and yes - Starlit Hui is on the same schedule of Monday and Thursday evenings. 730 pre-show and 800pm show.

We are checking in this Friday and can hardly wait to see Aulani!

Thanks for the cabana tip - any idea which it was? I have requested #1-4 if possible for our stay. Wondering if that was not such a good idea?

We will be there Friday night as well!! Pool opens @ 8am :-)

What would the beach cabana's price be for non DVC members?

Non-DVC is $20 I think. Such a great way to relax out there while tots play

Hi All!

We are here now and to be honest I would not get a pool cabana. The area behind and to the left and the right of the cabanas (1-4) are under construction and have heard jack hammering Monday and Tuesday. The exception would be the weekend, I know on Sunday there wasn't any machinery being used, not sure yet about Saturday. Hope this helps anyone considering renting in the near future.

Your report about construction noise near the main pool cabanas doesn't surprise me. In the photo below, cabanas 1, 2, 3, and 4 are on the center left side. Much of the area below and to the right of those four cabanas is being transformed into the new water features. the Makai Preserve, which is in the lower left, will be replaced by a new kids Splash zone. The lawn, which is to the immediate right of the four pool cabanas, will be the home for the new infinity pool. The roof that you see in the lower right of the photo is the Wailana Pool Bar. It will still be after after construction is complete, but I heard is was temporarily closing during at least part of the construction.

Here are some photos of the construction I've seen around the property.

Thanks for the photos. It's a little sad to see our villa we stayed in at Aulani out of commission in Waianae Building, third floor in the third photo.

BTW I also changed the photos to an image so they would show on the website. I used the yellow photo of a mountain square to do it.

Thanks for sharing your construction photos.

I'm surprised that Aulani has netting on some of the balconies in the Waianae Building. Last month we were in Villa #304 and now your last photo shows netting on balconies of all the villas 302-312. I wonder what they are doing to "our" villa??? I guess I should plan another trip to Aulani to see what they are doing to our villa!

Has anyone received their point refund yet? What UY did they use? DW and I just returned from Aulani the first week of September (TR link below) but we were there prior to the beginning of the construction. However, we have a reservation for December for DD that she will use for her honeymoon. We received the email notifying us that we will receive a refund equal to two nights stay due to the construction. The refund will take place after check in. For this December reservation, we used current UY points plus we borrowed points from our Aug 2013 UY. I called Mbr Svcs to find out which UY the refund points will be put in and was told the UY of the reservation which would be Aug 2012 for us. I was also told that the points will be bankable. I also sent an email to Mbr Svcs asking the same question and was told that since we borrowed points from Aug 2013 UY, that the refund points would be put back into that UY. Geez, Mbr Svcs giving you two different answers...that never happens, right? :lmao: Back to my original question; Has anyone received their refund points yet and what UY did they put them in? TIA.

Has anyone received their point refund yet?

We were given a credit for 46 points for our stay at Aulani from September 15 to 22, 2012. The 46 points were not credited to our account on our check out date of 09/22, but they appeared some time within a week of our return. We have a February UY and the 46 points were credited to our 2013 UY.

Our original Aulani reservation required 161 points and had the following composition:

124 BLT points -- 2011 UY
37 AKV points -- 2012 UY

In our case, the 46 credited points were placed in our 2013 UY as BLT points. I'm not sure how or why DVC decided to credit the 46 points back to us as BLT points, but I'm definitely not complaining. I wasn't expecting any credit, and we'll use those extra points for our trips in 2013.

Wow! I have to check into this!! I could use more points for my WDW trip next year!! Great info!

We have heard some jack hammering going on near the #1-4 cabanas, by the right lagoon entrance way when we have used the pool during the day. Other than that, the construction has not been noticed by my group.

Is it a "cabana" or one of those 2 beach chairs that have an "awning" over it?

In my mind a cabana is like a tent w/4 poles supporting it....thanks.

No you're right! You have to have some grace with me...words can be a challenge ... I am a former Marine :-)

Ok guys, I admit it, the jackhammers are real loud today. We are still enjoying ourselves though! The characters are out with their Halloween costumes on and the staff are real accommodating

I bet it's still better than a day at the office. :goodvibes Enjoy your trip!

Absolutely!!!! It's been a Fantastic day! We had lunch @ AMA AMA while the kids were in childcare, and are about to hit the lawn for the movie of the night.. Muppets

Is the jackhammer noise bad everywhere you go outside? All pool areas as well as beach? Just trying to set my expectations, as we arrive in one week.

We returned last Saturday and for the most part it was heaven! I thought the construction noise was loudest and most noticed near cabanas 1-4. In fact, they were drilling last Friday to add more umbrellas and they hit a gas line, ooops. If you sit closer to AMA AMA or near the towel cananas it is minimal. We thought the best seats in the house were 5 chaises by a small jacuzzi up a walkway across from the Pau Hana room. It was shady, quiet and felt like our own private island! Oh I could go on and on......
