Disney's Art of Animation Resort (Part II)

We stayed in FN in August and we had a refrig. so I don't reallt know about LM, just wanted to say, Have a great time and enjoy every moment:)

Have had a horrible 2 years and didn't think we were going to be able to go for my Mom's 60th bday next week. However, just booked a trip tonight for this saturday!!!!!!! Staying in the LM room until thursday then switching over to POP for 2 more nights before heading home. Can anyone tell me about the refrigerator situation at AoA LM and POP. I've never stayed at a value before and thought I heard something about having to request one. Thanks.... have to go make a new trip ticker!!!!

ALL Value rooms (including LM section at AoA) have fridges now. The only difference is that now they are 'hidden' right underneath the television so it looks like a regular cabinet!

however, they don't work very good. ours stayed lukewarm and when i called to ask for a different one, they said at the front desk, that those in the LM section just aren't the best.

Id consider bringing my own if i could!! haha

My sister and I stayed in Little Mermaid last week, and while we think AofA is a charming resort, we have both decided that it's just too far removed from the "action" (specifically MK, our favorite park).
We did love the bright colors both in the room and in Animation Hall. The food court has lots of choices, and the decor there is great as well.

I agree. Loved LOVED LOVED the food court food, but not the set up. it gets too crammed in the morning.

We wont be staying here again, but did like it. just too far from eveything especailly Animation hall

No, we won't be back either. It's nice and new, but putting the single rooms a 9 minute walk away from the food, front desk and buses is too inconvenient.

The food court is only crowded for those who leave late though. If you eat breakfast early, before 8:30 or so, it isn't crowded. Lunch is bad, especially with people from pop walking over, and dinner again is fine after 7.

It's all the difference in the world how in the value resorts you feel like cattle, but in the more expensive resorts it is less herding. Funny, the first thing I notice between the value resorts and the luxury accommodations are the room service trays outside the doors in the morning. I guess if you can afford $400 a night for a hotel room, its nothing to have room service deliver your meals :)

We are headed to AofA 6/9 - 6/15 in a LM room!!!! YAY!!!! DH, DD(7) and DS(5) and me!!!!

Just had to post, I am so excited I have been surfing the interent for Disney info all day. There is sooo much out there!

This is not my first trip, but it is my first time planning (and paying) for the trip! Exciting and scary all at the same time.:dance3:

I read that if you take the fridge out of the furniture, it starts working well! Go figure!!!

Does anyone know the hours at the Drop Off pool bar? DH and I would like an adult beverage after we get everyone settled on arrival night to toast the fact that we made it! LOL! We land at 7pm and are thinking a drink would be lovely after the children are tucked in and we retire to our room...say around 10 pm. Not sure if we need to go to LoF or if we can get a mixed drink.

I've heard that if you leave the door open to the cabinet area, the fridge will keep cold. It needs air around it to properly work.

Maybe that's what I read too LOL
Either way - you're right! It needs AIR!

We should be arriving at the resort by 10-10:30pm - what time is the food court & gift shop open?
Would be nice to grab a few bites & drinks for our room!

Hi everyone,
We just got back today from a mother/daughter long weekend trip with a room at Little Mermaid. Art of Animation is beautiful! The pool is awesome and the staff was great. I did have a few comments that I hope will be helpful to others:
1. Pete exagerrated only a little when he said Little Mermaid is in Nebraska. My goodness - it was a long walk to the food court and to the buses. My 50 year old feet were aching after a day in the parks - and to face that walk to the room was rough. I think adding another bus stop would help a lot. The walk around the back side (by parking lot) seemed a little shorter - you might want to try that.

2. The frig didn't work well at all - it kept things a little cool but I don't know if I'd want to drink milk that had been kept in it. I didn't see the suggestion to move it out of the furniture until today - wish I had tried that.

3. The food at the food court was good - but it was cold by the time I got through the line to pay (this was around 6:00pm). Try to plan meals at off times if possible. Also, they have To Go boxes available if you ask so you don't have to carry the tray and dishes all the way to Little Mermaid.

4. Loved the privacy curtain between the sink area and the bedroom.

5. The pillows are new - and very thick. I asked for a feather one but that is only available at mods and deluxe - so if you need a thin pillow, be sure and pack your own.

6. You might want to take a nightlight - in Little Mermaids the bathrooms are painted dark like you're underwater and the curtains do a good job of darkening the room.

So...tonight we decided to switch our resort reservation and go to AOA!!! We are so excited and the surprise trip for the kids is going to be even more exciting. We were in POR, but wanted something more for the kids.

So, with the current stay. play. dine special, they only had a AOA suite available....I could not pick the specific one we want. I was told it would be assigned on the day we check-in but we could make a request for the one we would prefer.

Has anyone had this happen? Either of the three would be fine...they are all adorable, but I DS6 loves the Lion King and we really want to stay there.

We decided to go with a suite because we will be in Disney for 9 days and DH and I thought it would be nice to put the kids to bed and hang out. Plus, I have heard the rooms at POR are kind of small, especially with the new queen beds. I know we will LOVE the space!

I am happy to be here. This thread is great!

Do the little mermaid rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave?

No. The LM rooms have a beverage cooler, but no microwave. The cooler is like a refrigerator, but it has no freezer section. It also takes a long time to get warm beverages cold. It does a better job keeping already cooled beverages cold.

Turn the thermostat down to the coldest setting, we've had ice in our drinks after doing that.

Just Back From Lion King Suites! Any questions?

Just an FYI - It was me, my husband and 2 boys (one turned 5 while there and the other is almost 3). My 5 year old has a peanut allergy, and we try not to give our kids artificial flavors, colors or preservatives - sort of a modified Feingold Diet, if you are familiar. This was the first time our kids have been away from home or flew.
