June 8, 2013 Mediterranean Magic!!

Just like a cruise out of Florida, some choose to dress up in formal wear and others in shirts and ties and dresses or slacks. I took two black dresses on a 12 night. I plan on 1 for this cruise. I don't like to pack too much. ;)

Plus, since ports are very time intensive many people are tired from sight seeing and just don't care what they and others are wearing. I know I don't. We are just happy to have a nice place to eat after a long day. :lovestruc

There was a mixture on our last med cruise, but I would say the underdressed people were in the minority. On a 7 night, there will generally be one formal night and one semi-formal night. Formal night is tux and ankle length dress for the ladies. Semi-formal night is cocktail for the ladies and suit/tie for the boys.

We met a couple last year who didn’t make the effort and thought it wouldn’t matter that they hadn’t put on anything fancy, and it turned out they felt really awkward going out to dinner in very casual clothes and sitting at a table with people who had made an effort and were wearing a tux and long dress.

It is all down to the individual, but it will say on the navigator what the dress code is and the staff will be dressing accordingly too.

Without fail on 7+ day DCL cruises, the formal night is on the first sea day, so no-one has been running around ports all day and have no time to get ready.

Come on people, we are on a beautiful ship sailing round the med, let’s all look fabulous !!!!!

I haven't posted in here, or the Facebook page, in ages because I was pregnant and thought I wouldn't be going on this cruise because I was due in late April. Anyway, Friday I learned I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and had emergency surgery to save my life. So seems as though I will now be sailing, though I obviously have very mixed emotions about it.

Anyway, I wanted to comment on this as my husband doesn't own nor has ever rented a tux on formal night. Sometimes he packs a suit, sometimes not. Sometimes, most of the time, he wears a dress shirt, khaki pants, and maybe a tie. He has never felt out of place. I don't own an ankle length dress, never have. I do wear a dress on formal night, but again, have never felt out of place. And this particular cruise, given that it will be bittersweet for me anyway, I do not foresee caring about what anyone has on. I realized Friday what is important to me is my husband, kids, and family. If we're all happy, and not at the expense of others, who cares what we're wearing?

It's a far trip, packing space will be at a premium (especially for us, as we'll be on board for this cruise and the 12 night immediately following), so if people don't want to waste luggage space on suits and dresses, so be it. I know I won't be looking at any other family, nor caring what they have on.

Justine,

I am so, so sorry. Unfortunately, I know too many (myself included) who have suffered this loss. When the time is right for you, I hope you will come back to FB & here to plan this trip. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. I am so glad you are physically okay.

As for dress up, we dress up just not go to the nines. We will be at three hotels and the cruise for this trip which will require living out of our suitcase. Space is a premium. Best thing, we can dress up any outfit with accessories!!!

I am counting down the time. Hotels booked and Plane tickets bought. Now I just have to get some nice clothes and wait for DCL shore excursions to be posted!:cheer2:

Has a fantastic cruise on the Fantasy last month and didn't think we would be going on a cruise again so soon, but......:goodvibes

This will be our 3rd Med Cruise, so we must like it! This time will be the first without our DD as she will still be studying. Have been on quite a few Port Adventures & some on our own so will do the same next year. If anyone needs any info I will try to help.

Can't wait!!!

We recently booked our flights, leaving from Phoenix on June 5th, returning on the 27th after the 12 night cruise.

We were just on the Dream, 3 night, and really has us looking forward to this cruise! My oldest told me she prefers the kids clubs on the Magic and can't wait to get back on it.

Thank you for the kind thoughts. I agree, far too many people have to suffer such losses, and it is definitely hard to get through.

I am still reading through the thread but wanted to let you know we are joining you and asked to be added to the facebook page I read about a few pages in to the thread!
It will be me, DH and DS (13 when we sail). We actually were scheduled to go on the Greece/Turkey after this one but after looking at everything we want to spend a few days more in Italy and a few more in London. With our schedules and money we figured less cruise $$ and more days to spend in places we really want to explore works better!
So off I go back to page 3 to read about all of you and what you have talked about so far. And Thank You  for setting up a facebook page as I am finding this is so cool to have along with this thread!
Later,

Sue - I just added you to the FB page. It looks like we will have 3 families from our June Fantasy cruise going on this Med cruise. Small world. It's great to have you joining us.

And looking at your signature, we will be on the Dream a few weeks ahead of you in the next month or so! I guess us Disney addicts have to get our fix. The newest DVC special almost got us again. Lucky for DH we had already bought airfare for our Christmas trip. :beach:

We were tempted to do the latest DVC offer as well, however, school schedules always seem to through a kink into plans. I hope they continue to offer them since it saved us so much money on the cruise last June.

Our son turns 13 in April, typically he spends his time on board in the Edge playing on the computers and video games so if that is your son's thing they may become the best of friends! ;) But he is actually as excited as we are about going. He is studying the Renaissance and Old World History this year in school and part of last so it will be fun to put them together for him so quickly. Part of the reason we will probably go back and stay in Rome for a few extra days after the cruise. :thumbsup2

My oldest DS will be 12 in June. All he wanted to do on the Fantasy in April were staying in the Lab and playing computer and video games. Sigh! But, it,s his vacation as well!

Well, I had hoped he would socialize while he was there but that seems to be the nature of the (pre)teen boy. Do any of the boys play Minecraft? Maybe that might unite them?
LAter,
Sue

Is anyone going to Sorrento from Naples on this cruise? I went to Pompeii last time by train. This time I want to take the hydro foil to Sorrento and the train back to either Herculaneum or Pompeii.

We are. We are taking Rome in Limo. Going to Pompeii. Pompeii is the one thing DS has asked to do.

DS says he plays Minecraft. We need to get the boys together the first day !

Are you doing Pompeii on your own? If so, also go to the Herculeum. It's very interesting ;)
