Emmysdaddy Joins the Damsels to Dine, Even with Princesses: Em started PDR see link

Love the pics from BW Bakery - and so happy to see that the peanut butter chocolate cake is back on the menu:cool1:. Here's hoping it's still there for me in April!!!

Wow.. Based on the pictures of those cupcakes (and other sweets) I think our next stay will be at BWV or BCV!

Yummy pics from the boardwalk! How was the croissant sandwich? My gang likes protein for breakfast but to date, I haven't heard many good reviews from the Disney breakfast sandwiches!

That looks YUMMY!!! I have to add that bakery to my "list" when we go over that way!!!!! ::yes:: I know my oldest would LOVE that strawberry cupcake!

From one Brenda to another.....looking forward to the rest of your reviews, especially Capt. Grille, we are staying @ BC in Nov. and may dine there.

Have to say that Cosmic Ray's is one of our favorite CS places to eat. We have eaten there on every trip until this one. We were supposed to eat there for our last dinner ofour trip but what happened??? We didn't get to eat at that fabulous toppings bar.
Glad you had an great meet, great, and eat.

Love your breakfast choices from BW Bakery! I MAY have tried the yogurt Parfait... depends on my mood lol.

I HAVE to stop in there for a cheesecake brownie though! Sounds like Heaven!

Your cupcake looks good as well! I am undecided on the cupcakes... there are a few I may like but normally I am not much of a cupcake person... we will see!!

it might be dangerous to be so close to Boardwalk Bakery while staying at BW in Dec. All those tempting goodies!!

The cheesecake brownie looks quite good, will definately have to try that one.

I started reading your review and it looked incredibly familiar...Eilee and I ordered three of the same items that you did! :thumbsup2 Great minds think alike! And just to let you know, I didn't end up with the item I wanted either! :rotfl:

Great job with the pics of all the BW Bakery goodies, Brenda! The pictures reminded me of all the delicious-looking desserts there that I haven't yet tried, but really want to...like their famous cheesecake brownies. I would love to have one of those right about now. ;)

Anyway, again I must award bonus points for not only completing the task, but going above and beyond. :thumbsup2

Ohhh cheesecake brownies - that sounds so good. I definitely need to go back since there are so many more goodies to try!

some of these days I have to stay at the Boardwalk just so I can go to the Bakery! Looks delicious!

Jill in CO

Hi Jill! Ha! If only I revealed my ulterior motives sometimes and yes - having access to yummy treats isn't a bad motive! Therefore, go and stay at BW and have some of those delicous goodies!!

Omg! Those cupcakes look so yummy!

Hi poohbear! OMG! They definitely were!

Okay I am getting myself over to that Bakery next week :rotfl: I have never been and since I am not doing the dining plan I should have room in my tummy for something delightul there! Since everything at Disney is calorie free I should be okay :rolleyes1 Thanks for taking pictures for us :)

Please do try something next week and report back!! If you are on the DP you should get snacks right? And yes, no calories at WDW but I don't think you have much to worry about since you are so tiny! :)

Just so you know where you stand regarding points earned, I have compiled your current total.

For "messing with" the Boardwalk pizza dude and videotaping the experience - 2 pts.

For taking not one but six pics (counting your teaser pics ;) ) with DDW - 6 pts.

For introducing DDW to that fine gourmet food, Chili-Cheese Fries :lmao: - 1 pt.

For riding on Splash Mountain with DDW (very cool! :thumbsup2 ) - 1 pt.

For taking a pic with Princess Betsy and DDW, while soaking wet - 3 pts.

For getting breakfast from the BW Bakery and taking pics of all the goodies in their case - 2 pts.

That brings your current point total to... 15

I think you are well on your way to winning the GOLD!!! :worship:

Wow, you are going to need a bigger abacus before my TR is over!! :rotfl2: I'm honored to be able to work through the list. It was a lot of fun so thanks for setting my goals for the trip! :goodvibes

Yes! I also had that strawberry cupcake on my trip (although I ate mine right away ;)). Looks like you chose a nice variety of goods from the Bakery. :thumbsup2

And it's nice that Emily and Michael got one morning to sleep in. Sometimes, those mornings are even better than making rope drop at the parks.

Yep - we both selected the same cupcake!! I would say we have similar tastes; however, I know that yours are more refined and include critters with their heads on!! :rotfl:

I much prefer the look of that strawberry cupcake over the one from the Contempo. Disney does love to overdo it on the frosting though! I guess you could have just "brushed" the sprinkles off but that probably would have resulted in a mess :scratchin.

Does anyone actually finish the yogurt parfaits they get at Disney? I say bah humbug to "healthy" eating at the World! Yogurt parfaits barely even make the health cut anyway. I say full speed ahead to the cupcakes :thumbsup2.

Hi there! I think my DH agrees with you since he saw it and said that it would be like eating a donut. Hmph!! No one ate it so it was wasted. On vacation I don't worry about what I eat since I tend to run more before our trips so I feel like I'm entitled to vacation eating!! (Honestly, this trip I didn't put a lot of miles in before so... there goes that justification!)

Catching up with your DR, darn work keeps taking away from my DIS time, LOL. I love the Cosmic Ray's "duo-report" and the bonus pics of our own DDW! It looks like you and your family really enjoyed sharing this time with him and it's great to finally have a picture to go with the name. :goodvibes Love your choices at BWB, that strawberry cupcake would have been mine too. I always end up scraping most of the frosting off Disney cupcakes, since I usually find it's just too much but I just can't resist them, LOL. I'd also be tempted by the key lime pie, as that and lemon meringue are my favourites. :lovestruc

Looking forward to the next installment! popcorn::

Hi MrsB! I completely understand about work getting in the way of Dis-life! Thanks for reading and I'm glad you liked our tandem review.

Ohhh key lime pie.. that reminds me of a dessert that we had.. more on that later!

Excellent update!

Thanks!! :goodvibes

Boardwalk Bakery is on the list for goodies! Yum!

Hi happy! You MUST try something from there. I have to warn you that you may not be able to decide since everything looks so good!

Love the pics from BW Bakery - and so happy to see that the peanut butter chocolate cake is back on the menu:cool1:. Here's hoping it's still there for me in April!!!

Thanks! You don't see peanut butter chocolate desserts much so that sounds like a unique option. Here's hoping that 6.5 months from now they will still offer them just for you!

Wow.. Based on the pictures of those cupcakes (and other sweets) I think our next stay will be at BWV or BCV!

Ha! More than one person said that. Where are our priorities people? :lmao: But I love your logic!!

Yummy pics from the boardwalk! How was the croissant sandwich? My gang likes protein for breakfast but to date, I haven't heard many good reviews from the Disney breakfast sandwiches!

I only had 1 bite of the croissant sandwich and it was ok. I'm not a huge fan of American cheese but I was willing to try it since an egg sandwich sounded good. My DH is a protein guy as well... he would have been happy with boiled eggs.

That looks YUMMY!!! I have to add that bakery to my "list" when we go over that way!!!!! ::yes:: I know my oldest would LOVE that strawberry cupcake!

The bakery is certainly good but there is also a sweets shop that you may want to check out next to Kouzzina I believe. We didn't go in there but if your kids like candy stores it may be a great place to visit!! :rotfl:

From one Brenda to another.....looking forward to the rest of your reviews, especially Capt. Grille, we are staying @ BC in Nov. and may dine there.

Well, hi there Brenda! Thanks for reading! Captain's Grille is coming soon.... it is a great option if you are staying at any of the Epcot resorts. How exciting that you have a trip coming up soon. Happy planning!

Hi Karla! Glad you like Cosmic Rays as well. Have you enjoyed Sonny Eclipse?

I will have to stay tuned to your DR to see what happened!

Paula, you are in luck that there are so many more options than cupcakes!! I'm a cake lover but I enjoy so many other treats!

it might be dangerous to be so close to Boardwalk Bakery while staying at BW in Dec. All those tempting goodies!!

The cheesecake brownie looks quite good, will definately have to try that one.

It looks like the cheesecake brownies have a lot of takers! Please try one and report back!! :)

I started reading your review and it looked incredibly familiar...Eilee and I ordered three of the same items that you did! :thumbsup2 Great minds think alike! And just to let you know, I didn't end up with the item I wanted either! :rotfl:

That's so funny! The sacrifices that a mom will make for her child! I do recall reading that in your DR!

This was a first for us – we had never had a TS meal at AK. I had read many of the review and knew there were plenty of choices that I would likely have a hard time choosing between plus those fried wontons – I HAD to have those! Our initial plan was to have an early lunch after a few hours of touring AK since our ADR was 11:30. However, since we had a late start that morning, we barely made it into the park by 11:15am so we did not have any time to enjoy AK before our meal.

For anyone unfamiliar, Yak & Yeti Restaurant is in the Asia section of AK and is one of only two TS places within the gates of the park, Tusker House [buffet] being the other. (Although I have read that Rainforest Café has entrances both inside and outside the park.) Next door is the Yak & Yeti Local Foods Café counter service option which serves a limited selection of menu items such as honey chicken, sweet & sour chicken, beef lo mein, pork egg rolls, and fried rice. Here's a link to the menu.

We checked in for our ADR and waited in the small lobby area for about 5 minutes before we were taken up the stairs to the second level of the dining room. Our server was Jenna and she did a great job explaining various items on the menu and making suggestions when we were unsure what to order. She encouraged us to walk around and view the interesting artifacts and art throughout the restaurant. For some reason I thought me and my camera would not be so welcome where others were trying to dine so I remained in my seat.

Restaurant Photos (taken on the way to our table just in case anyone thinks that I'm a liar liar pants on fire kinda gal.)

I knew that I wanted to try the pork egg rolls but I had a hard time deciding on what to order for my entrée. Of course there was the fact that I wasn’t that hungry. I should probably insert a note here that you will probably see me share that I wasn’t that hungry about 18 more times during my dining review. I don’t have a huge appetite although I can eat a pretty healthy amount of food at times. Typically I eat smaller meals throughout the day so sitting down to eat a big meal is really uncomfortable for me. Hopefully, this will help you to understand why I tend to share and split entrees or eat smaller portions rather like a post bariatric surgery patient. (Not that I am implying that I know what that is like in any way to have my stomach stapled.)

Jenna took our drink orders... I needed something cold that would require a paper straw that tastes like you are sucking on a paper towel tube:

Read the back of the menu for the Ananapur Yak & Yeti – Our Story. It should make you feel totally immersed in the wonderful theming of this restaurant! I felt like it wouldn’t be a surprise if a Sherpa walked out and offered to carry my bag!

Back to the food…..I ordered the “side” of pork egg rolls which are served 2 to an order rather than the appetizer portion of 3 egg rolls. Thanks to the Disboards folks here for that hint. I also ordered a side of steamed rice. I was counting on Em ordering something that we could split but the little cretin ordered the seared Ahi tuna appetizer which is pretty much as garlic is to a vampire, fish is to me – I won’t go near it! She also ordered a side of fried rice.

Moving on, will Michael order something that I can pick off his plate a few bites? No…..He ordered the Ahi tuna salad. I can see that I’m out of luck here. While looking at the appetizer options Michael saw the lettuce cups and made a statement that he wouldn’t mind trying that. So being the good wife that I am, I went ahead and ordered it and figured we would share since it is lettuce cups for TWO. And yes, I ordered a side of the pork egg rolls. On impulse I also ordered a side of steamed jasmine rice.

So what did we think of these dishes? Em thought her Ahi tuna appetizer was the perfect portion size and was refreshing and very tasty.

Em’s Seared Ahi Tuna – chilled, sesame encrusted ahi tuna wasabi aioli & sweet chili slaw - $11.99:

Side of chicken fried rice $5.49:

Michael saw how huge the Ahi tuna salad was and asked Jenna if they dumped the entire bag of salad mix on the platter? It truly was a lot of salad even for a big man like my DH. He consumed that salad – enjoying the seared tuna, crunchy won tons, and the freshness of the ginger dressing.

Ahi Tuna Salad – Chilled, seared blackened Ahi Tuna, mixed greens, wasabi aioli, wonton crisps and ginger dressing $19.99:

As for my selections, I started with the pork egg rolls since I was a in an egg roll mood! I loved the chili plum dipping sauce! I should have waited a few minutes to eat the egg rolls since they were served so hot and I wasn’t taking the time to let them cool sufficiently before I chowed down. I do have an observation that the egg rolls were a bit greasy. By the time I was half-way through the second egg roll I was pretty much done with the grease. Just saying….

Now for the other dish that I ordered, the lettuce cups for TWO. Someone is going to have to tell me the unique spice that is used in the minced chicken – I want to say it had a coriander or 5 spice type flavor but please forgive my under-developed palate that really has no clue. The first lettuce cup with the spiced minced chicken and a drizzle of the hoison sauce over the top was really delicious. Very authentic pan Asian flavor that had such flair! As I moved on to the second lettuce cup my appetite was rapidly waning and not only that but I was growing a little annoyed with this spice that I can’t quite put my finger on. And then there was the fact that this was an appetizer for TWO that I had ordered to share with Michael and he didn’t touch them. Hmph! Needless to say, after eating only two lettuce cups I didn’t eat more than a bite or two of my rice.

Lettuce cups for two – minced chicken breast, shredded carrots, bean sprouts, fresh cilantro, and Saigon Hoison sauce with crips lettuce cups $13.99:

Jenna, our server, came around and she didn’t even need to finish her sentence, “would you be interested….?” YES, we would like an order of your finest fried wontons!! Even if I didn’t eat anything else at this place, I was going to try me some of those fried wontons. And I have to say…. This dessert did NOT disappoint. Em and I split an order and I was so glad to see that she was full after the first couple of bites – it left most of the wontons for me. I adored the sweet creamy honey vanilla drizzle over the crispy (and yes warm) wontons and pineapple on a skewer. The dish was presented with strawberries and a small dish of vanilla ice-cream which was the perfect accompaniment. Oh soooo wonderful! I am declaring this my favorite dessert of our trip!

Fried cream cheese wonton skewers with pineapple & honey vanilla drizzle and vanilla ice cream $7.99:

Tables in Wonderland is not accepted at Y&Y so the undiscounted check was $80.35- and it arrives with fortune cookies. I’m not sure if all of the servers take the task of promoting the Landry’s frequent dining card as seriously as Jenna but I think after the 2nd sales pitch we were pretty sure our decision was still no thanks! Go Jenna!

One other note of accomplishment… this meal checked off #5 from Jabead’s List of 18: Have some egg rolls at Yak & Yeti, but don’t forget to save room for the wonton dessert.

We will definitely return to Y&Y, if only for a side of egg rolls and fried wontons!

Next Up: WPE

Note: I may not be able to post an update until I return from my business conference Friday evening. I'm not abandoning this review I just have to suffer at the St. Regis Hotel in Monarch Bay for a few days. If anyone wants to hang out and lounge by the pool come see me and I will ditch my meetings in a minute!! :rotfl: Here's where I will be stuck until Friday. :goodvibes

Y&Y looks great. I love ahi tuna, both of those items on your table sound delicious. I always thought that I could get better Chinese food at local places, so I'm glad to see that they serve more than the standard sweet and sour chicken, etc.

And great job on your list. I'm impressed!

Oh, poor you ... How will you ever make it til Friday in that place! :upsidedow

We, too, loved the wontons at Y&Y this trip. Didn't love them the first time we had them but I am thinking they may have been cold? I have an ADR in November for Andrew and I to go for just appetizers and that dessert. One of the very few ADRs I am making for our quick trip! :thumbsup2

Wow your conference sounds so nice! I agree the paper straws at AK are gross to drink out of. Mine always gets so soggy towards the end :rotfl2: I am glad you enjoyed the dessert there, I agree that I don't always have a huge appetite and that too has happen to me at Yak and Yeti. I go for the seaood curry, and the dessert is a welcome bonus for me, even though I always struggle through eating one darn won ton!

I'll be at Y&Y next month! I haven't even looked at apps or entrees! I just know I will be getting the wonton dessert!!

I do want to mention that I've read Y&Y offers a 10% AP discount??

I'm sorry you have to suffer at your business meeting lol. Can't wait for you to return and read more of your dining!!

Just read the whole thread! It was a fun way to start my day off work.

Love your photos and descriptions. You and your family are lovely to look at, and so is Mr. DDW. He has a smile that just won't quit.

I gotta go read Princess Betsey's reviews now. Thanks for posting! :)

I've decided that my next trip to WDW needs to be really, really long to fit in all of the restaurants I want to fit in! Now that I'm looking at the Y&Y menu, there are quite a few things there that we would enjoy. Of course the main thing on my list would be the wontons!! I'm glad to hear that they were crisp and hot for you.

I hope you can suffer through your stay at the St. Regis to make it back to us! ;)
